Inter 3-3 Lugano

By: Johonna | September 5th, 2009

Does this make one?
Inter drew 3-3 in their friendly against Lugano today. Not bad when you consider the team was comprised of 5 youth players, 3 second string players, a guy making his Inter debut, and Vieira. Quaresma and Mancini scored, and strangely, so did Vieira, so maybe this will be good for their egos. A little confidence can go a long way.

Inter Forever
has very kindly uploaded highlights from the game and an interview with Marko Arnautovic (here). Thank you very much! You can also read a match report on Football Italia.

Quaresma scores for Inter - may it be the first of many this season
May this be the first of many this season, Ricky!

Mourinho played a 4-3-3 for this game:

Toldo
Donati*, Samuel, Materazzi (27′ Kyisela*), Esposito*;
Tremolada* (23 s.t Carlsen*), Vieira, Obi* (34′ s.t Romanò*);
Quaresma, Arnautovic ( 43 s.t Dell’Agnello*), Mancini

*Youth player

So, as you can see, first team attack with a largely youth-team defense = lots of goals for everyone! A little worryingly, Marco had to leave the game in the 27th minute because of a problem with his right thigh. No news yet on the extent of his possible injury.

In the end, a friendly is just a friendly, but I think this one was well-timed and very useful. Clearly, we will be seeing more of this Mancini, Arna, Quaresma attacking trident in the future. It was nice to give them a chance to work together without the pressure of a “real” game (I wonder if this counts as one of the 10 appearances for Marko). Also, the fact that our Primavera boys held their own against some big boys show clear promise for the future. With a friendly like this, Mou can get a good look at them and see who may integrate into the first team. Toldo is clearly rusty and this is just the sort of thing he needs to get back into form. With the strenuous season ahead, it would be nice if he could take up some of the Coppa Italia slack. If he does, though, conceding 3 goals will never do. I hope he has it out of his system now!

Please be ok please be ok please be ok
Oh, Wesley. Please be ok. We need you, desperately!

In other international news, Sneijder got a goal in Holland’s friendly against Japan. Unfortunately, he also picked up what may be a serious ankle injury. He had to be stretchered off in the 77th minute and was immediately taken to the hospital. Apparently, Sneijder said that he heard something crack in his ankle, which does not sound good. According to FC Inter News, x-rays have have ruled out any type of fracture. He will stay in Holland and undergo additional tests to check his tendons. We should know more by Monday. Fingers crossed everyone and light an extra candle to the Calcio Gods – we need Sneijder for the Barcelona game.

Despite not taking the pitch for Inter yet this season, Santon gets an Azzurri call-up.
Hmmm, looks like Santon gets to play despite Canna’s warning.

On a happier note, Santon got 20 minutes or so playing time with Azzurri against Georgia today. He got at least one good cross in and didn’t concede a free kick or a goal, so I guess I count that as a success. Krhin played about 12 minutes against England today. It was just a friendly, but playing time is playing time, and you never know, he may meet a couple of those players in the Champions League this year. Oh, Slovenia lost 1-2, but England was awarded a phantom penalty and their keeper got away with handling outside of the box, so the results may not accurately represent the play.

Eto’o scored a goal for Cameroon, ultimately beating Gabon 0-2, while Cordoba played a full 90 for Columbia against Ecuador. Columbia also won 2-0. As I write this, Brazil and Argentina are slogging it out. Julio Cesar, Maicon, and Lucio are starting for Brazil, while Zanetti is our lone representative on the pitch for Argentina, although Milito is on the bench. Oh, and Lucio has picked up a yellow card (along with Kaka) and Brazil is up 0-2.

FORZA INTER

Oh Davide, cant you wait until you get back to the dressing room? Yikes.
Davide has a powerful itch

“that Bari better than Sporting Gijon argument is foolish”

    Who was arguing?

“That’s a midfield of Xavi-Keita-Busquets instead of Xavi-Iniesta-Yaya and an attack of Bojan-Ibra-Pedro instead of Henry-Ibra-Messi.”

    Blah Blah Blah.

“But yeah, Seria A is that much harder or whatever your biased argument says.”

Was I not being clear enough? That’s exactly what I said And I was being nice, not biased. Vinod’s 5-20 is more accurate accurate.

“all those comments tell me that you know very little about Barça”

We do not care about Barca. AT ALL. And Like I said.

You will soon learn about ibra.

What will I learn about Ibra, Paolo? That in a team where he isn’t surrounded by all Defensive mids he can do better? That in a team that has more than one creative player he can do better? Last season, besides Ibra, who did you go to? Teams went into the game with one player and one player only to focus on. Why do you think Mourinho was at our first match of the season? To watch Ibra. No. To watch the plenty of other attacking options we have which you guys didn’t have last season, but, ok I will soon learn about Ibra.

kirby, I didn’t come here to do anything but correct some of the foolish comments that came from your computer. Disrespecting Messi and the rest because of some goal.com quotes attributed to Ibra does not make sense. You are the one who tried to downplay the victory we have last week and all I did was point out that during your first league match, you guys tied 1-1. Also, Eto’o missed a sitter that had Ibra missed one against Gijon would have had you talking all types of shit.

Jose’s tactics will ensure 5 goals are put past us? Once again, let’s get real. Weren’t Man Utd supposed to put billions of goals past our makeshift defense last season, too? It’s one thing to be confident, but if that confidence comes at the expense of ignoring the opposing teams strengths and weapons then it crosses the line into foolishness.

Jnice, have you ever heard of the phrase “whistling past the graveyard?”

Do you really think that the comentors on this board do not understand that Barcelona is a brilliant team full of brilliant players?

Jeez, all we are tying to do is cling to the tiny slice of hope we have. That said, Barcelona did not win every CL game they played last year, nor did they win every league match (although they certainly won most of them). Still, if Espanyol, Mallorca, or Shakhtar Donetsk can beat Barca, maybe Inter can too.

Ibra is wonderful. We all love/loved him. We are hurt so we look for his bad side to make ourselves feel better. You all at Barca will love him too.

jnice please do not talk about missing sitters lol when it comes to missing sitters no one touches your beloved Zlatan and believe me im even not sayin that because he left inter for your team

and you claim that he hasnt sucedeed with us because we lacked creativity ? maybe but what about when he was with ajax ( a team full of creative mids back then ) or capello”s juve ( a great team ) ? dude couldnt score in the knock out stages of the CL with any of those teams , why ? lemme guess because inter dont have enough creativity in midfield lol i bet you eto’o and milito will out score him there

Johonna sorry but i’ve never been a ibra lover i’ve just supported him because he played for my team and im glad that he left because as a result our team is much much better

Jnice you come here and expect us to blow sunshine up Barca’s ass like we owe them something. NOT EVER GONNA HAPPEN. I am well aware of how and who Barca can play. I do not know how to put it more simply to you. I do not care. They are a football club.

Do you honestly believe Mourinho was only there to marvel at Barca’s “FUTURISTIC” football? Do you honestly believe that his only concern is how to stop your “FUTURISTIC” attack? Do you honestly believe Barca has no weaknesses that Mourinho and his players can possibly exploit? Do you honestly think you are unbeatble? It’s pretty damn arrogant if you do.

You’re happy to have Ibra and I’m happy that we sold him. I’ll leave it at that. You can form your own opinion of him after a season or two. An opinion that I still will nor care about.

Believe me when I say we do not need the Barca police around here correcting anyone. It’s pretty pompous of you that you think have have to “correct our foolishness” and it makes you quite the hypocrite.

Sneijder, like Ibra, may only have his words. We’ll see. he hasn’t proven a damn thing yet either, but we aren’t acting like he is a god. If Madrid fans want to get upset and knock Sneijder then so be it. We’re not going to go to them and “correct their foolishness” They can say what they want.

When was the last time Inter had won the Scudetto before Ibra went to your team?

1989. Have you watched every Inter match in the last 3 seasons that Ibra was part of the club?

The knock on Ibra was never his play in the league.

I wasn’t counting the one in 2005/06. Inter did however win title that season after Juventus and Milan were docked points, leaving Inter in the # 1 spot. Ibra was with Juventus that season.

Just saying all the rants probably arent warranted, In most interviews Ive seen he’s said it in a jokey- im going to get 1 over my old team- way.Not a cocky sneer.

To me its the same as when the report of him bashing serie A and inter came out, when in reality all he had to say were positive things about the league and Inter. But thats the type of reactions the jornos want in the 1st place.

    Gazzetta:

The Austrian is euphoric after a good test of Lugano and he can’t wait for the official debut for Inter.

Milano – Will be ready late September, a month before the expectation in June. Marko Arnautovic is buring the stages of recovery. The friendly played on Saturday at Lugano is a great reward for the efforts from the Austrian giant. Without being too optimistic even though he is fully recovered but he is stil far from a good condition since all the weight he put up during the long downtime.

Leapfrogging: To heal at the record time from a fractured right foot, Arnautovic had to make a funnel full of sacrifices. Doctors at Chelsea canceled the visit in May since they had a fixed prognosis that he will be out six or seven months. The player, in their view, would not be able to play a game before December. Professor Benazzo, School of Pavia, he is a orthopedic consultant of Franco Combi, the Nerazzurri’s head medical staff, was less pessimistic to indicate a time interval between middle to the end of October. Well, with his willpower, Arnautovic has gained thirty days and in late September you’ll be considered him as a new player in all respects.

Sacrifices: The boy is facing the new adventure with the right spirit. Was just transferred to Inter, he has shown his seriousness by moving to Italy without his father, mother and his brother. And to avoid the temptations of the metropolis, he’s taken a house on Lake Como. He was ecstatic, “I am overjoyed, the coach gave me compliments”, he told Claudio Vigorelli, the agent who’s responsible for the transfer to the Nerazzurri.

Ok, E, I will qualify: I love/loved him. I am hurt so I look for his bad side to make myself feel better.

Still, I think the journalists are starting something from nothing. I am sure that he looks back fondly at his time in Milan. I also think that a little pre-match trash talk is perfectly acceptable. I just hope that he has the decency not to celebrate if he scores a goal at the San Siro. That would be classless.

INTER neeed to have a perfect game to beat BARCA or we will need luck to be on our side,if we win the first game we will win the second one too im sure as we will gain more confidence on us,the way i see my INTER is they are not confident enough to beat any big club on CL i really hope last year’s game against Man U has helped our team grow in confidence and i’m sure that is what Mourinho wants them to do too.. with our 5 new players we got more of a winning mentality now and we are not playing the game of helping IBRA score goals so he can beat Bologna’s MARCO DI VAIO or Genoa’s MILITO(last year’s and now INTER’S) as we all saw that Inter’s last 4 games of the championship was helping IBRA win the title with more goals.IBRA is unique i liked him and supported him because he was an inter player but i never had respect for him he was a high head and lazy too.The soon as i heard of the speculation that we are getting eto’o end all that money for ibra i said i hope this deal goes thru and it did and now we have eto’o and our team only gonna improve the world has yet to see the best of inter.
Thanks to M.Moratti and our coach Mourinho…
I have to thank you JOHANNA,MAD,INTERFOREVER,VINOD,SCUDETTO.S… for the updates that you make i have been a silent reader of this website for a couple of months now and im impressed of how much you all love the team i love for 14 years,i will follow you as you are correct all the time on your posts.

ordi jornos have something to do with it but it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if ibra said those things and I think it wouldn’t surprise any of my fellow interesti either we seen ibra long enough to know that his name and class ( out of the field ) should not be put in the same sentence actually they shouldn’t even be put in the same book

    1. I don’t think he’ll score against us.
    2. If he scores, he will DEFINITELY celebrate. I love/loved him too and all, but from what I know of his character, that’s the kind of person he is. He’ll probably put his finger on his lips like he did when he scored against Lazio last season. ;)

Glad you stepped outta the shadows, kenny.

On the Serie A v La Liga debate, I do believe that Serie A’s 5-20 is more difficult to beat but that probably has a lot to do with their willingness to “put 10 men behind the ball.”

Barca are a great team but they benefit from La Liga’s obsession with attacking football. Even small teams attempt to attack Barca/R Mierda and because of that they leave themselves open to counterattacks. Which leads to easy wins for the big fish.

On Ibra-thing, as much as I bragged to friends about how great Ibra was etc. I could never bring myself to buy his jersey. I knew it would just be a matter of time before he moved on, I just wasn’t sure if it’d be R Mierda or Barca. Kinda like Barca fans should start asking themselves: is Ibra going to leave us for ManU or Chelsea?

The best part is, Moratti didn’t replace him w/ another great name, he replace Ibra with a great TEAM and I can’t be happier. Unless he celebrates against us, then I’ll call for his ACL on a silver platter.
