Coppa Italia: An evening of joy and respect
By: Johonna | May 24th, 2008Better late than never! I had computer issues last night so it is up a bit late.
Well, here it comes, the last game of the season and, boy, will it be a doosey. No matter what you think of the Coppa Italia, I think both teams will be playing to win. Zanetti is convinced we will do well and that is good enough for me.
It is clear that Roma will come in to this with something to prove. Apparently, for them, this is some sort of litness test for legitimacy – like a second chance at the Scudetto. Think again, that ship has sailed. If Roma wins tomorrow, it does not mean that they are the “true” winners of the Scudetto, it only means that they are the winners of the Coppa Italia. If they loose tomorrow, I am sure they will find some reason why it was not their fault.
Spalletti’s new tact is that second place in the league does not mean that Roma are losers, but runners-up. Of course, he also said that losers should always congratulate the winners – not a lot of that going on around here. So, how about this, I will accept the first statement if Roma fans accept the second. Perhaps it can be like Miss America: as runners-up, Roma will assume all Inter’s duties and obligations should we be unable to perform them. I am pretty sure the position even comes with a sparkley tiara.
Mancini has called up our usual Coppa squad:
Keepers: Toldo, Julio Cesar, Orlandoni
Defenders: Zanetti, Maxwell, Maicon, Burdisso, Chivu, Fatic, Filippini
Midfield: Stankovic, Jimenez, Vieira, Solari, Maniche, Pele, Cesar
Strikers: Crespo, Suazo, Balotelli
Ibrahimavic, of course, will not play. He is all about the Euros now. Cambiasso is injured, and Materazzi and Cruz are suspended.
I am not sure what to think of Solari and Maniche – they don’t inspire much trust. For both, this may be their last time in the black and blue. Hopefully they will want to go out on a high note.
I would like to think the line up will be something like this:
Julio Cesar
Maicon, Zanetti, Burdisso, Maxwell
Pele, Vieira, Stankovic
Jimenez
Crespo, Balotelli
Of course, Toldo may start, and I have no problem with that. He has more than proven that he still has it.
I think that if we can control the midfield, we can control the game. That said, Roma have one very important asset: DDR. There is no denying – he is a force to be reckoned with.
This will be a difficult game for us, and aside from a chance for bragging rights, a sort of useless one. I just don’t know how many players will really “show up.”
Julio Cesar, Maicon, Chivu, Vieira, and Maniche have national duty coming up. They have already won the Scudetto so their minds may be with their national teams. Also, no one wants to get injured now.
How about this, lets try our hearts out to win, without hurting ourselves or anyone else, and have a really great time.
Ricordate, Ragazzi, una serata di gioia e di rispetto!
FORZA INTER

Um, I thought that was a pre-season game. That means it is a part of next season, not this season.
I think.

Really, I think this is the best outcome. We get the scudetto and Roma get the Coppa Italia.
No one goes home empty handed.

I am going to show how much I care about Coppa by how much I mention it in the next few sentences:
I saw this on Tutto Mercato about Jose:
In the last hours he was considered very close to move to Inter Milan, but the new meeting between chairman Moratti and trainer Mancini could change Jose Mourinho’s future: according to The Sun, the “special one” could move back to Chelsea, despite the problems he had with chairman Abramovich
Whatever the outcome I just wish they would get on with it so that we can restock our players and make some deals. I had heard that Juve is holding a fire sale to accumulate some cash to pay for Xabi.

Me too. This whole will he wont he thing with Mourinho and Mancini is getting old. If it is as Mancini’s agent says and he is 100% going to continue at Inter, then why the continuing rumors?
This whole coach thing is just a distraction. We need to think about next year’s team now before everyone is already settled.

MAD, we are having a fire sale but if you’re Inter you’re probably not interested. Tiago, Almiron, Andrade, Molinaro, Marchionni, they’re all goin on the block.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YOU LOSE AGAIN. ANYWAYS HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

You know what, I might be “mad”, but if we can get a couple of those guys Alessio mentioned relatively cheaply I wouldn’t mind having some of those guys on the “B” team for things like Super Coppa and Coppa. You know so that the “A” team could concentrate on league, CL and helping average people from rich landowners who are a law unto themselves (I couldn’t resist).

So, roma won huh? Interesting. I didnt even see one minute of the match cuz I went golfing. I heard it was decent game. any thoughts…? maybe there will be a replay on sometime during the week.
so the season is finally done. we won the league and i couldn’t be happier about that!! 33 straight weeks at the top and we never lost the lead once we gained it. I was once again, massivley let down with our european effort and felt it should have been more than it was. In the end it was the same story as usual. I was proud of the team though. Riddled by a lot of key injruies all season, i thought they did well to battle through it. They did just as well to play thorugh and deal with all the controversy and dressing room problems. They handled it well and came out as champions!
I am in favour of some massive off season changes. hopefully things are done, and done quickly, so the team can be full prepared for the start of next season. i fully expect inter to be among the favourites to win serie a again and hopefully we can get the monkey off our back in europe and at the very least make the semis. i think we are 4 – 6 good solid moves away from getting there. should be an intereting off season and hopefully it goes quick. I hate the off season but at least I have F1, Moto GP and the Euros to look forward to!! I am pretty confident with the Azzurri’s chances of taking the european crown. I can’t wait for it

Some stuff I am sure most of you got, but just in case… All of this is from Tutto Mercato:
“Waiting to solve the question manager, the market of Inter is stopped. Branca waiting game, but risks to lose come important chance as happen with Nasri destined to Arsenal.
From Gunners they try to engage Hleb, that during last time is observed also by Barcelona. Konko is another serious target, appreciated by Mancini and Mourinho: in the trade wit Genoa could be used in exchange also Acquafresca.
Mourinho list: Drogba, for the midfield (Deco and Lampard). Then there is the dream Quaresma, but Porto ask 40 million euros. Meanwhile neroazzurri observe the 22 year old Argentinian midfielder of Independiente, Calello.”“Few minutes ago there has been the announce: Walter Samuel has renewed until 2012 the contract with Inter. Besides the Argentinian defender, also the goalie Paolo Orlandoni has extended his duty until 2009.”
“The midfielder dell’Inter, Ricardo De Oliveira Nuno Ribeiro Maniche (30), seems destined to return to home base called Atletico Madrid. So far nothing new, senonché median for the Portuguese there are bids from France, England and Turkey. The Fenerbahce has made progress in an important, even if the player seems oriented to return to England (he played for Chelsea) or try their luck in France. The Portuguese player still has one year contract with the Colchoneros.”

I would spend $40 Million on Quaresma without thinking about it. I’ve wanted him on Inter since last year. I doubt it will happen. I also want Inter to get Maggio and Barzagli.
Who knows what they will do. Nothing I assume, until they have the manager situation sorted.

this from tutto:
“Other news confirm the upcoming firing of Inter trainer Roberto Mancini. It seems that Mancini has told some friends that during the meeting with chaiman Moratti they have not talked about money; this means that Inter chairman will have to pay the whole amount of Mancini’s contract; the officiality should arrive in the next hours as well as the one concerning the engagement of Jose Mourinho.”
The faster this is wrapped up the better I say…

Assuming that Mourinho takes over with a vision for the team, any thoughts into what kind of system Mo wants to run? I don’t watch English football unless I am strapped to a chair (kind of like Roma-ball) so I am unfamiliar with his run in Chelsea… other than it was expensive.
