Coppa Italia - NO FAVORS

By: Johonna | May 6th, 2008

Suazo and Ballotta
Tomorrow is the return leg with Lazio in Rome in the Coppa Italia semifinals and a slightly snippy Mancio says he wants to win - “We won’t be doing anyone any favours

Lazio is in a bit of a spiral after having lost to Catania (1-0), Juve (5-2 Yikes), and Palermo (a more respectable 2-1). They have slipped to 13th place, and are only 6 points above the relegation zone. In league play Lazio have scored a healthy 43 goals but have allowed 50!

This compares quite favorably to our 65 scored with only 24 allowed (grazie JC!). By all statistics, we should be able to put this away. Unfortunately the calcio gods are not always familiar with these statistics. Inter and Lazio were in much the same position on the first leg of this match but we failed to beat Lazio’s 43 year old keeper. It just goes to show, no matter how poorly a team may be playing, when they come against Inter, they pull out all the stops.

Lazio need this win. They need it so bad they can taste it. The final is at the Stadio Olimpico and likely against city rivals Roma - who they beat earlier in the season. If Lazio win the Coppa Italia, they will get to play in UEFA next year and the season will at least be somewhat salvaged.

We would like to win, of course, but the Scudetto is more important. This worries me. Please, Please, PLEASE lets not play the defensive poop we tried to pass of as calcio last Sunday. Inter must attack and control the midfield!

Mancio has called up practically the whole team with the addition of 6 Primavera players:

Goalkeepers: 1 Francesco Toldo, 12 Julio Cesar, 22 Paolo Orlandoni, 51 Vid Belec.

Defenders: 2 Ivan Ramiro Cordoba, 4 Javier Zanetti, 6 Maxwell, 13 Maicon, 16 Nicolas Burdisso, 23 Marco Materazzi, 24 Nelson Rivas, 25 Walter Samuel, 26 Cristian Chivu, 40 Ivan Fatic, 47 Marco Filippini.

Midfielders: 5 Dejan Stankovic, 7 Luis Figo, 11 Luis Jimenez, 14 Patrick Vieira, 15 Olivier Dacourt, 19 Esteban Cambiasso, 21 Santiago Solari, 28 Maniche, 30 Pelé, 31 Cesar, 36 Francesco Bolzoni, 43 Daniele Pedrelli.

Strikers: 9 Julio Ricardo Cruz, 18 Hernan Crespo, 29 David Suazo, 45 Mario Balotelli, 50 Luca Siligardi.

That is 32 players! Including Figo, Dacourt and Samuel ! Is Mancini just trying to be cagey and not tip his strategy to Delio Rossi? Clearly, no decisions have been made, which also worries me a bit. I like the guy and all, but he just seems to be shooting himself in the foot. Do you suppose there is some sort of clause in Mancini’s contract where he gets more money if he is fired instead of quits?

Back to the game. I am usually wrong about formations (especially with so many to choose from), but Salvatore over at the Lazio board thinks it may be:

Toldo
Maxwell, Rivas, Materazzi, Fatic
Solari, Bolzoni, Pele, Jimenez,
Suazo, Crespo

and that looks pretty good to me (thanks Salvatore!)

People to watch

Inter: Any of the Primavera players. With the possibility of a homegrown players rule in UEFA, we may be seeing quite a bit of these players next year. I still have my fingers crossed that Crespo will finally come through for us.

Lazio: Pandev and Rocchi are deadly when they are in form, and I have been impressed with Behrami this season.

Goal.com (read HACKS) are predicting a Lazio win but we all know how far they usually have their heads up their heinies.

I think it will end Inter 2 - 1 Lazio

The game is being broadcast on GolTV and RAI International, neither of which I have. I will either be looking for a half-way decent stream here or listening on Inter radio. The latter is in Italian only.

In other news, Dacort is training with the team again! Bien Venue Olivier! I am certainly happy to he him making a recovery.

Dacort

Vinceremo Ragazzi!
Forza Inter

People are funny with this Materazzi red card. That wasn’t a red card. The guy on Lazio is a punk bitch faker. That is the problem with Serie A…too much diving…too much faking..too much acting etc…Every team is guilty of this even Inter and unfortunately it doesn’t look like it will ever change. Materazzi was leaning back on the ground and stuck his leg between the players legs and got the ball first and grazed the guys leg. There was no force to it at all. If Materazzi wanted to really fail this guy we all know what it would have really looked like beacuse he would have crushed that guy. The Lazio player feels the tap on his leg and knows it was Materazzi from behind him so he goes down like he was shot knowing Materazzi’s reputation will get the penalty called. I thought it was comical. And Materazzi missing the final is no big deal to me because he has overtaken Burdisso as the liability on D. If he doesn’t play he can’t hurt the team. And Mancini got a red too. I don’t think too many Inter fans are bummed out about that one either. Maybe that could help us in the final…it certainly can’t hurt. People can call Inter dirty all they want, that is their opinion but I disagree. They are filthy dirty and about to win the Scudetto so I’ll take that over what anybody has to say anyday. People like to talk trash but talk is cheap.

If you call Inter Dirty how would you describe Nedved, Camo, Momo or Chiellini?

And for the Roma fans what about your little bitch Mexes? And what about the antics of Totti, Mancini, De Rossi, Pizzaro? A collective group of pussies, or at least that is how they act. Their diving, absolutely horrible diving at that, and bitching is as much a disgrace as anything else you guys like to point your fingers at. Your fucken golden boy leader has disgraced himself on may occasions. You should the last ones to say anything about anyone.

I would not consider Momo dirty, I would consider him rough. Marco wasn’t even going for the ball on that one. Nedved is a player who plays with heart (like MARCO, I agree) who occasionally loses his head, and Chiellini is our Materazzi, but luckily has not been as stupid yet. I’m commenting on this specific game, Inter have had their disciplinary problems, you’ll notice I mentioned they played like hooligans “today.” And given Cruz’s punch and Marco’s poor excuse for a tackle, Interistas should admit it. Like in our Coppa game, Camoranesi’s leg kick was inexcusable and plain ridiculous. Admission of your teams faults doesn’t mean you’re less of a tifoso.

I agree Roma is full of divers. Mancini takes the cake for that one.

Momo can be very careless. Maybe its because he is so lanky it makes him seem dirty.

I honestly think Materazzi’s challenge was clean as he won the ball. Pandev grabbed his leg and went down like he was shot but it was not even part of his leg that Materazzi made conatct with.

Its football, there will be always be dirty plays and players losing composure. There are players who are more prone to the dirty plays. Materazzi did not earn a reputation like he has for being graceful, he can be very dirty. Players no his reputation and takle advantge of it. As Pandev did last night and much Like Torres did in the CL tie. My opinion on that is it is just as dirty as some of the tackels Materazzi has performed.

Cruz’ punch was very bad and I am surprised it went unnoticed.

Paolo you crack me up…i love it when you get fired up.
“your little bitch Mexes” “a collective group of pussies” PRICLESS…you took the words out of my mouth.

Alessio: Materazzi is the “dirtiest” player on our team by far, agreed. I actually thought he went for the ball on that play though in my opinion. I would admit it if I though otherwise. There are plenty of times I get pissed at Materazzi for stupid fouls he commits but I thought he got fucked yesterday. He created that reputation for himself though so I guess he has to live with it. I thought the ref sucked balls yesterday and we won 2-0. They should have carded Pandev multiple times…All he did was bitch at the ref the entire game.

Aho, Johnny it is pretty simple.

He got the ball and then hacked his leg. No intent on the ball and from behind = red card.

Johnny, its true and somethings need to be said. And then we get called a “rare breed.” I guess if you think about it we really are a rare breed. We aren’t delusional. We win and lose with class and dignity. We, for the most part, do no not bend over and speak out of our asses. We call it like we see it. We do not buy into the media crap. We don’t resort to picking on other teams or its fans. So yeah in that sense I would agree that we are a rare breed.

You really are a testa dura eh?

    A) What does that have to do with how we carry ourselevs as tifosi through wins, losses, good times or bad?

    B) To this day no one else has received a 2 day match ban for simulation as Adriano received for that. Do we complain? Nope. It still happens and goes unpunished.

    C) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iksdzlIOn3k

As mentioned before you have some the biggest idiots, dirtiest players and divers in the game on your club. You should be the last one to point anything out to anyone.

I dont hate Roma without reason. They give italian calcio a bad name for their diving antics. Their fans are some of the most clueless bunch of wannabe experts that do their squad a major disservice by just opening their mouths. Listen to them, and you’d think they have won handfuls of scudettos and champions leagues. Yet, in reality, they are Serie A’s bitch. They are a classic 2nd place team that can never win the big games.
Im not an Inter fan but I hope they crush them in the Coppa and put them in 2nd. Hmm, imgagine that

They are like Chiuauas. A whole lot of bark and a pathetic bite.

Watch how they tuen the Coppa Match intoa win/win for themselves. If Inter wins they will write it off as who cares it doesn’t mean anything. If they win everyone better head for the hills cuz they won’t shut up about how great it is.

Count down to the “yeah well what about 6-2?” insult begins now… 10, 9, 8, 7…..
