This Sneijder Thing is Getting Messy

By: Johonna | August 19th, 2009

Your services are no longer required -Love, Real Madrid
Alright, rumors should always be taken with a grain of salt – or, given some the “journalists” out there, a truckload – but Inter has been pretty strongly linked with Wesley Sneijder all summer. If you believe the newest rumors, things are getting a little icky in Spain.

A little background…

Early this summer, there was some speculation that Sneijder would be offered as part of a deal for Maicon, but according to Maicon’s sleazy agent, no offers arrived. Inter, still interested in the player, asked if he was available and was quoted a price of €25 million. Inter decided to look elsewhere. Sneijder’s agent even said a move to Inter for Wesley would be impossible: “Coach Pellegrini considers him a key player for Real and he is not allowed to leave the club. He remains in Madrid.”

For his part, Sneijder has continually said that he would like to stay in Madrid and fight for his spot. He did concede at one point, though, that if he did decide to leave Madrid (which he never would), Inter would make a nice option. He said that he thought Mourinho was a good coach and was flattered that Mou considered him his first choice for a trequartista.

Well, it now looks like Sneijder doesn’t have a choice. According to sources, he is being forced out. FC Inter News has a particularly tawdry tale to tell (my translation):

Real Madrid has put Wesley Sneijder’s back to the wall: either accept the transfer to Inter or else run the risk of spending the season off the squad. The coach of “merengues” Manuel Pellegrini and the Director General of Casa Blanca Jorge Valdano met in Dortmund this morning, where Real will play this evening against Borussia, and spoke with the Dutch Fantastista. The coach has opted for the iron fist: Sneijder, like Van Der Vaart, is no longer in the plans of the ex coach of Villareal, and he has kept [Sneijder] off the list of those convened for this evening’s friendly against Borussia Dortmund. In addition, the club has already made it known to the player that upon return to Spain, he can no longer train with the team. Ouch.

The situation is truly a “separation in house” and is becoming increasingly asphyxiating for Sneijder, who does nothing to conceal his nervousness to the point that, reveals Sport Mediaset, in training today, according to some witnesses, was a couple of times close to brawling with some of his companions. The player, however, continues to show some reservations about the move to Inter because of some questions related to the recruitment. Reservations that perhaps will soon dissolve, considering also the fact that he has virtually been cut from Real it could at the end become for him decidedly counterproductive, especially in the year that brings the World Cup to South Africa. Inter, strong in agreement with Real, is waiting. In the end, it could be a matter of days, or even hours, before the desired “yes” arrives for the transfer of Sneijder to the Nerazzurri.

Ok, I admit it, I wanted him – or at least I want a talented attacking midfielder – but not like this. I dont want a mopey guy forced out of a team he loves who thinks of us as a nice idea. I want someone who actually wants to come to Inter.

For lack of a better phase, I want them to want me.

At least the price has come down, now they only want €15 million. Poor guy.

“Surprise surprise that the judge for the falsopoli scandal was moratti’s buddy and that the phone calls(which is illegal to get in the first place) which contained the info needed to prove Juve cheating were no longer available in court.”

Actually it was the Italian Olympic Committee chairperson that sent Juventus to Serie C – a man that has no ties to Inter.

The phone taps were actually part of yet another investigation that Juve was part of and were completely legal.

It must be a common ailment for Juve supporters to only post on other team’s sites. That or their own team is just not that interesting…

If Sneijder wants to stay and fight for his job, good for him. Didn’t they tell Beckham he was done? And a few months later he was back on the pitch rejuvenated. So in this case I agree with alessio. There is merit to staying and fighting for what you want. Its his carrer, let him ruin it.

Yes Inter needs an attacking midfielder. However, It doesn’t need Sheijder. Frankly I’d rather not have to spell his name a lot. I say Inter throw all the money they can at Gourcuff. I don’t beleive he’s cup-tied in Europe yet. And for everyone that wanted Cassano. Maybe Wesley’s rejection leads Mou towards opening up to him.

    @ Jo
Thanks for the article. It seems Livorono would most likely want Rivas on loan with the first option to buy. You know, when his amazing defense keeps them in Serie A.

Dude don’t worry about your grammer. Its cool with me if it makes sense. However, some of your posts, due to poor spacing, look like big blobs of words that make it hard for my eyes to read.

Their the ol lady. Obviously, they’re just not that interesting…

\ I still want Aguero in the blue and black strips. Pretty much as bad as Barca want Cesc back.

Oh, and in case any of you were wondering, I am working on the preview now for the Bari game. I want to include Mou’s presser tomorrow though, so dont look for it until Saturday afternoon.

I can’t believe the summer is over! Yikes.

EXACTLY MAD!!! RUBENTINI YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO ADMIT THAT YOUR TEAM ROBBED THE SCUDETTI!!!! Even though there is plenty of evidence to put moggi and co away for life nothing has happened due to the corrupt nature of the italian judicial system. Trust me I’ve lived there and for those of you who have lived there you know how messed up things are in terms of politics and legislation. I mean for god’s sakes if things werent entirely corrupt over there then how is berulsco prime minister….. AGAIN?? If things werent totally corrupt over there then Milan wouldnt have been in the 2006 07 champions league like there werent supposed to be but somehow ended up being in it. I swear to you there is no justice in that country. Moggi e Berlusco siete ladroni di merda!!!!

we’ll be fine without him. balo, arna and RQ7 can cover that role with relative ease.

Johonna summed it up perfectly. All things being equal if Sneijder is rejecting Inter in spite of his current situation, then I dont want his Dutch ass in Milan.

On a side note….as a Barese, Interista, Sunday’s game is either win-win or lose-lose for me (if that makes any sense)
    Prediction..
(My heart) Bari 1 Inter 0
(My mind) Inter 2 Bari 0
…so lets meet half way and have a 1-1 draw, for the sake of the newbies

I agree with what you said about Sneijder Johonna, I wanted a talented attacking midfielder, but not by force. If a player doesn’t want come to Inter then it is their loss, cause we all know they are the best club in the world! :D

Still he is a tempting offer….

and LOL at the cheap trick video, hilarious last touch!

i never thought it was mourinho who didn’t want cassano at inter:

“Actually, Inter coach Jose Mourinho did not want his club officials to sign me. The only thing that Lippi and Mourinho agree upon is me – they both don’t want me around !”.

He’s been training with the squad as far as I know. And I think he played the TIM trophy as well. The only thing Mourinho hinted at was that he was ‘a little behind in his preparation as compared to the others’. For now anyway, I have no worries about our CB positions.

Burdisso is almost out the door. Yes, I know he has his fans here, but he can be such a train-wreck that I’m not all that disappointed about it. Slowly and steadily Mourinho’s depleting our Argentine contingent.

So we’re not getting any money for Burdisso’s move to Roma? Even a million or 2 would have been nice. I guess, we don’t have to pay his 1.4 mil Euros (or was it 2.4?) anymore…

Glad to see Serie A back on!

Burdisso is going on loan with an option to buy next summer. I wonder if this has anything to do w/ Mou’s interest in Julio Baptista?

Please someone provide some kind of explanation as to why Zanetti is starting at left FB tomorrow. Because if Mou’s plan is to have him as our starter at left FB then we’re in trouble.
First because Zanetti can’t cross with his left foot to save his life, and second because he was perfect in tandem with Maicon on the right wing the last couple years and to change something that worked so well is outright stupid.
    Who’s with me on that?

I’m with you Francesco. Maicon and Zanetti are a nice link along the right side. And Zanetti’s defensive instincts are good to have when Maicon finds himself forward in attack. As for LB, I would perfer Chivu or Muntari. Both can make the overlaping runs on the left wing as well as deliver adequate crosses.

For those who missed it, there was a near brawl at the end of the Siena/Milan game.

Apparently Milan players were upset that Siena didn’t like such pleasurable things such as being punched in the nose and not two footed, studs-up slide tackles.

If you thought that those things might have merited a caution or even an expulsion… you would be wrong, apparently.

why didnt mourinho call up suazo? Hes certainly a good player to bring off the bench. If you need a fast, dribbling player to change the game hes your man.
