C’mon Boys, Lets Get This One Right

I sure do miss Maicon

What: Inter v Lazio
Where: San Siro, Milan
When: Saturday, May 2, 8:30 local time (11:30am Pacific, 2:30pm Eastern)
How to Watch: Live on Fox Soccer Channel or find a stream (MyP2p, Justin.tv, Rojadirecta, Ustream, and ATDHE.net).

Alright. Here we go. One more chance to get back on track towards the scudetto. It is true, we have not been on the best run lately; I think loosing both Maicon and Adriano was a bigger blow than any of us would like to admit. We lost our last game, and failed to hold onto leads in the two before that. Five points from our last four games is simply not good enough. But hooray! We have the chance to turn all that around tomorrow by beating the snot out of poor Lazio. It is nothing personal, but, we really, really need the points.

Last year we did just that (beat the snot out of Lazio, that is). The game ended 3-0 with a goal by Maicon and Suazo, and a converted penalty from Ibra:

THEM

If you want to know about Lazio, I would suggest a trip to Cathal’s blog. I am sure he knows much more about the team than I.

Delio Rossi has called up 19 players:

1) Carrizo, 2) Lichtsteiner, 22) Rozehnal, 29) De Silvestri, 24) Ledesma, 3) Kolarov, 68) Manfredini, 8) Matuzalem, 20) Kozak, 86) Muslera, 13) Siviglia, 18) Rocchi, 32) Radu, 16) Tuia 10) Zarate, 23) Meghni, 81) Del Nero, 5) Brocchi, 17) Foggia

Goran Pandev, Lazio’s second highest goal scorer, is out injured. Joining him are Inzaghi (the lesser), Mauri, Pandev, Diakite, and Dabo. Even without Pandev, though, Lazio have more than enough fire power between Mauro Zárate (12 goals) and Tommaso Rocchi (8 goals). All told, Lazio have scored 44 goals in Serie A, that is one more than Genoa. Still, they have some holes in the back, having conceded 46 goals this season already. Surely they wouldn’t notice two or three more.

Mourinho expects a tough game and I agree. He said:

“… the coach and players from Lazio are decent people who want play well and have their own pride. Like us, they always want to win and will be at San Siro to play their own race without giving anything to anyone. So I expect a very difficult match: Lazio plays for pride for the three points and because they are great professionals, we play for all these reasons, but also for the three victories that we lack to win the title. Our motivation, of course, is very strong.”

US

Mourinho has called up 20 players, almost everyone who is not injured or suspended:

Goalkeepers: Toldo, Julio Cesar, Orlandoni.
Defenders: Cordoba, Maxwell, Burdisso, Materazzi, Samuel, Chivu, Santon.
Midfielders: Zanetti, Figo, Jimenez, Vieira, Cambiasso, Muntari, Mancini.
Strikers: Ibrahimovic, Cruz, Crespo.

The good news is that Muntari is fit to play. The bad news is, so are Vieira and Figo. Oh, and Deki and Mario are suspended. The Stankovic thing is probably something we can work around, but not Balotelli means that we are woefully understaffed in the striker department. Rumors are that either Cruz or Mancini will partner up front with Ibra, with Figo back in Deki’s place. Sigh. It is beginning to feel a bit like barrel scraping time. I feel a bit like if we can win this game with this squad, we may just pull it off yet. I would be lying if I said I was not nervous. I am, though, attempting to maintain a positive attitude.

Confession time: I am leaving on vacation tomorrow. Dont worry, the beach house we rented has internet so I will still be here. No, the problem is, we will probably be on the road tomorrow at 11:30 am so I will miss the game. I just pray that the house has FSC so I can watch a replay.

Also, it means that I dont really have much time tonight. I wanted to include some photos from the little 6-a-side match that Mourinho and his coaching staff played against some of the team employees. Mourinho’s team won. Really, if you have not seen them (they are only on the Italian version of Inter’s web page), you should. They are a hoot. Mou even scored a goal!

Pictures here.

Oh, and it looks like Santon got another tattoo, this time on his arm. Can any of you decipher it? I cant.

Davide got some new ink
That better not be his name tattooed there on his arm!

First the eyebrow and now this – Santon better slow down.

FORZA INTER

Quit having so much fun until you actually WIN a game! But they are cute, aren’t they?
Chivu and Matix - too much fun

See, now, that makes me angry. Not because he has left Inter, but because he left the club in the middle of the season. Adriano left us in a real lurch. I am more than happy for him to go to another club – whatever – but the very least he could have done is either leave during the winter break or waited until the end of the year.

Moratti has bent over backwards to help Adriano and this is how he repays the club – by quitting at a time when we cannot replace him? I could just slap him!

Would his presence at the club right now really help things?

You never know. The fact is, now we will never know. The best of all outcomes would have been that he left over winter and we got a replacement.

Now, for our Chievo game, the only forwards we have available are Balotelli, Cruz, and Crespo. As messed up as Adriano is, I think he is better than both Cruz and Crespo.

Tevez to Milan? I thought Galliani made a big deal about how they weren’t going to spend much this summer – just a defender or something. Still, if they can make some $$ from Seedorf and Shevchenko, and Bordeaux picks up Gourcuff, they may just be in the position to buy Tevez. I just dont see why they need another forward. Milan has no problem scoring goals, it is keeping the other team for scoring that has been a problem this season.

Actually Johanna, Milan have just as many clean sheets as Inter this season (16) and inter have conceded more than one goal in 5 games (lowest in the league) and Milan have conceded more than 1 in 8 games (tied second lowest) so conceding isnt really the issue.

Our problem is we dont have the consistency Inter have had and I think a workhorse like Tevez would help add consistency. That being said I dont think Milan will be able to buy him.

“I don’t see how Bordeaux don’t buy Gourcuff. Letting him go for a measly 15 million is the worst idea ever. Next season hasn’t even started yet and it’s already the best transfer of the year.”

MAD, its not as easy as Bordeaux just coughing up the money. Gourcuff still gets to choose and if milan offer him a bigger contract and guarantee him a certain amount of playing time, he could knock back Bordeaux’s offer. I hope he comes back to us, but he does seem happy where he is

Dave, have been to the Milan and Juventus Offsides?

One is morbidly celebrating the past and the other is bitterly awaiting the future.

Meanwhile we are having fun with mercato rumors (of which there isn’t anything interesting today :( ).

    That’s why they are here.

Okay, you do what you need to in order to make it through the day.

I know that there is no way he comes back to Milan after what they did to him. In France he’s as big as Jerry Lewis. In Milan he didn’t sniff the grass… Not that hard to figure out no matter how deluded and snobbish a Milanista you are.

Crappy rumors today but rumors all the same, so, everone got their salt?

    Good:

Lots of D’Agostino rumors. I like the player and I can imagine a rhombus with him at the top, Cambiasso in the back, Muntari on the left and either Zanetti or deki on the right…

ManUre won’t rule out Tevez staying. Personally all the ManUre posturing cries out to me: “Ronaldo is leaving, we need goals from somewhere next season…”

Palombo, looks like he’s going to renew with Samp. He’s a nice player to have, but I don’t know where we would play him.

Rumors are that Napoli want Suazo. Done. See ya.

Mancini to manage at Roma next season. Personally, I bet it’s Ranieri in Roma. It’s the perfect job for him. The club isn’t too big, expectations are moderate and he has all the mediocre midfielders he could want.

Inter are allegedly after Udinese talent: D’Agostino (I think this one is right), Inler (I can’t see this one, we have 3 just like him), Asamoah (I think we can use this guy) and Quags (me likey, but I don’t see where he fits).

Juve are allegedly going to try for Milito. I don’t see this one, unless Juev are just trying to fuck with the deal. I actually see Juve going after a Russian named Prog-somethingoranother.

Lazio are allegedly after Matrix… I don’t see this one.

Cruz has many offers. This one makes me sad as Cruz is a great player and has been here a long time, but it’s time for him to go. I hope he plays outside of Italy.

Alright, that’s it. Nothing great damnit.

This seems like good news, primavera players called up to prtactice with the senior team, including… Bolzoni who is finally cleared to play since what feels like forever:

“The second training session of the week ahead of Sunday afternoon’s Serie A match against Chievo (Stadio Marc Antonio Bentegodi at 15:00) took place this morning at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti.

The Nerazzurri trained for approximately ninety minutes, performing a series of warm-up, possession and technical-tactical drills.

Francesco Bolzoni was back in full training this morning. He was joined for first-team training by his former Inter Primavera team-mates Vid Belec (goalkeeper), Luca Caldirola (defender), Rene Krhin (midfielder), Alberto Gerbo (midfielder) and striker Joel Chukwuma Obi.”

D’Agostino is not a trequartista, he used to be but like Pirlo, struggled and didn’t start to shine until he was moved back to a regista position.

    Some rumors:

    * Milito is Inter’s for 16 million euros, half card of Aquafresca and a loan of Bonucci (a young defensive player who spent the year at Pisa).

This, if true, is the perfect solution for us. Milito is 29ish and he’s ours for 3 years (3.5 mil per year, supposedly).

Bobby is 20? 21? will play in the Europa League next year, play for a team that will have some pressure to win attached to it, which would be a step up than at Cagliari – with all due respect. If he continues to grow… I don’t see Genoa out bidding us.

Plus a young defensive player that the team likes, and has proven that he can handle Serie B, will be getting Europa League experience and learning on a good team with an ex-youth coach.

It’s the perfect solution. If this rumor is true than this is a well crafted deal. Everybody wins.

    * Accepting the fact that Roma will have to sell the farm to stay afloat next season, a player like De Rossi is still going to be a pain in the ass to negotiate for… so why not go after Brighi? Decent enough player, young enough to have his best ahead of him and has Serie A starting experience on an average club.

Best thing? He’s going to be cheapish – I bet under 10 million to buy since the two clubs have a very good relationship and his wage should be in the .5-1.5 mil mark. It wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t send a loan the other way.

    * Rumors for Quags won’t die. I still bet that D’Agostino either comes first or is the only guy coming from Udine.

    * Rumors for a guy called Subotic who plays in Germany.

    * Rumors for Cassano won’t die, even though his agent has said that there is no conversation between them. He’s going to be expensive…

*Rumors are that Inter could free up over 60 million euros (to reinvest, I guess, although I wish they would save 40%of it) in their budget after cutting the dead wood this season. Terminating Adriano’s contract, for example, allegedly saved the club big, big money.

    * Rumors have Vieira for France. I am hoping against hope for this, but I just don’t see it happening.

    * No rumors for Galloppa of Siena, but he’s the kind of guy that I wish we would go after.

    * A still no rumors regarding Rosina, Mannini or Ledesma… sigh…

    Mancini was last year, 2008.

Chivu was the year before, 2007.

Dacourt was the year before that, 2006 and he was a Bosman.

They took, Ferrari (who I would have liked to have stayed), Andreoli (I liked him too, but seriously he gets injured too much) and Pizzaro.

I think that’s everyone, in the 2000’s, right?

Samuel wouldn’t count because he was from Real Madrid.
