Benvenuto Amantino Mancini; Lampard Drags On

By: Johonna | July 10th, 2008

It is official, Amantino Mancini is all Nerazzurro! Yep, Daddy Moratti bought us our very own Brazilian winger – tricky tricky feet and all. Oraiali would not say how much Inter finally ponied up for Mancini, only:

“There is satisfaction on both sides. More satisfied Inter than Roma? I do not know, there is satisfaction on both sides. We hope that Mancini can do what Chivu did with us and become an important player. Now we are waiting to work out the final details. There were no other players involved”

La Gazzetta reports that Roma will receive almost 13 million euros (a few more than Moratti’s 10 mil max), and that Mancini will come on a 4 year contract and earn 3.5 million euros net per season. The final details will be hammered out when Mancini returns from vacation next week.

During the negotiations, Mancini has been cool and collected, with nothing but nice things to say about both Roma and Inter. He told the Corriere dello Sport:

I don’t know if this will be a goodbye, but to Roma, to the bosses and the fans I only have words of gratitude for what they have done for me. Thanks Roma. I chose Inter because it is a great club. They have a squad that is important and full of champions that can make the difference in any moment. Furthermore, it’s the side that have won the past few Scudetti. When a club with such ambitions wants you it’s inevitable to be flattered. It’s nice to know that Inter like you.

Aw shucks. See, that is how you win friends and influence others – thank your current club and flatter the socks of the new club. On the opposite end of the scale, 180 degrees from this transaction, is the ongoing saga that is Frank Lampard’s career.

A little time line:
June, Lampard is Inter’s “number one objective.”
June 28, Inter and Lampard supposedly come to terms and the transfer is eminent.
June 29, Chelsea insist that Frank is NOT FOR SALE!
July 6, Inter fax Chelsea a £6.5million opening offer (about 8 million euro).
July 7, Chelsea deny there has been any contact with Inter or that an offer was made.
July 8, on his first day, Scolari tells the press that he has spoken to Lampard and that Frank said his was happy at Chelsea and wants to stay for many years. Lampard sees the press conference from the training facility, flips out and calls his agent, who then issues a statement saying that Scolari is talking rubbish and Lampard’s future is still undecided. Inter make an £8 million cash offer – Chelsea rejects it outright.
July 9, Chelsea offer Lampard a 4 year deal for £140,000 a week. Lampard, though, wants five years or nothing. Apparently, by this time, Lampard is so cheesed off at Chelsea that he is willing to make a four-year deal with Inter worth £120,000 a week, which will become five years if Inter lift the European Cup while Lampard is at the club. Chelsea say that Frank will see out his contract at Chelsea no matter what.
July 10, Mourniho releases the statement: “He is the best professional I have ever worked with. He’s the player that trains better, has more concentration, more commitment and is always focused on himself.” Inter get ready to offer Chelsea £10 million. Other reports say that Moratti will telephone Abramovich within the next two days to offer ₤9million.

If Chelsea refuse to negotiate, Frank has three options:
— capitulate and take Chelsea’s 4-year deal;
— he can wait until January and sign a pre-contract agreement with Inter and move (for free) next summer;
— or he can leave under the so-called ‘Webster rule’ – namely, Article 17 of Fifa’s transfer regulations.

Under the letter of this rule, a player must serve notice of his intentions with 15 days of the last competitive game of the season. Lampard did not do this, so, if he invokes the rule, would probably be fined and/or banned for a few days from playing. Or at least this is the opinion of his legal team. By all accounts, Lampard is well and truly angry and wants to come to Inter. My question to Chelsea is: Why would a team want a player that does not want to be there? Clearly an example is being made and the European football community seems to be hunkering down for fight over player versus club power. I think the fight is a valid and inevitable one, but I hate that Inter are in the middle of it.

While trying to figure out why Chelsea are so keen on forcing Frank to stay, I came across this on the Offside Chelsea board (caution, the language is very foul and not for the easily-offended):

Each day the drama surrounding this transfer becomes more sordid. Poor Mancini, his arrival is being totally overshadowed by the whole mess. I, for one, am going to look at the bright side: We finally signed someone! Hurray! Whether or not Mancini’s on-again/off-again performance will continue at Inter next season remains to be seen. I would like to believe that his lack of focus is tied to Roma and will not continue at Inter. It will be a fresh start – a chance to really show what he is capable of. I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

Still in air is the fate of Dacort. His contract has expired but he is still on the list for the 2008/09 squad. We also still have a glut of strikers, and Burdisso is supposedly in hot water for accepting a place on Argentina’s Olympic team.

Allora, Ragazzi, finalimente stiamo andando avanti!

No, Quaresma is not fucking done – and I am really annoyed!
I say, hold off on Lampard for a year – let him come next summer on a free transfer. Use some of the money we are throwing at Chelsea for the Porto deal. In the end, we get them both and for a whole lot less.

I think it is Inter supporters that think Inter are better then what they realy are. Sure you are the team to beat in Italy right now theres no argument, but like I said, your current (and i mean 2 years) squad has gotten there asses beat in Europe and we all know Milan. Forget the 60’s and the 80’s memories that you guys hold on to, none of your current squad has played that long.

Roma have been better in tournament competition and theres no doubt on that. Even if it was a no trophy campaign and it was only 2 years For the past 2 years we have come closer to that big ear trophy and thats ONE thing we can take away from you. Since you have such depth in your squad its less dificult for u to gather points in the season. In a 12 or 13 game tournament we will take u out.

Inter are champions, Roma are not but our growth is evident. We have to wait until the end of this season to see if the growth was a fluke. All inter have been doing is declining. Plus you guys have a smart but dirty way of winning. The Materazzi penalty (thank God the bumb missed it)The Mexes Send off. The Parma manager getting sacked before the last game of the season (come on who does that?) Its eighther your team is a little dirty or the Refs just love Inter too much.

Yes Inter champions 3 years running i wont forget it. Until that changes i can only say one thing. Alessio, your a club-whore. hahahaha +10 points away from Juve, I dont care how long you where in Serie B for cheating and you werent at your best, you didnt cause a bleep in our radar once.

If Roma arent second next year, sure as hell you wont be, ull be one position below us with a +10 mountain to climb.

    Inter- Champions
    Roma- No Depth
Juve- shaking off the Serie B form
    Milan- Needs a youthful revolution

    Juve- 27 Scudettos, 2 CL’s 3 Uefa Cups
Roma- 3 Scudettos, no CL’s No Uefa Cups

Yet Roma kept Juve under there feet for the whole season

All due to what Alessio? a one year hangover for Juve? Yeah sure, give me a break!, go kiss the interistas fans. I bet you wear blue and black under ur prison stripes.

We didn’t cause a bleep on your radar? I guess drawing you at the Olimpico and losing in Turin is to be expected then.

The fact that you’re even claiming Juventus should have been challenging for the scudetto after Calciopoli shows you’re nothing but a stupid Roma fanboy. Inter, Milan, any other fan (and many Romanistas) would agree with me here, it is fucking retarded to think a squad relegated with more than 1/2 their stars gone (and hundreds of millions in lost revenue) would challenge for major honors in their first year back.

Blue and black? Ha. I hate Inter more than any other team, more than Romans do. It’s called the Derby d’Italia for a reason. Why am I not blowing off here? Because the Interistas aren’t stupid fackin trolls, unlike the Roma fanboys.

“I can’t imagine J. Zanetti or Del Piero getting into a fight, they seem much more relaxed.”

Why do you think Pippo left Juve? Fought on the field (shouting matches) with DP & had to go.

You know what’s funny, that’s the only way you idiots can defend your “the footsteps are coming” bullshit. But you know what?

In the end, no one showed up at all the end of that running or walking or whatever type of leg movement caused those footsteps.

Okay word I am reading is that Mancini cost us 12.5 in cash. That makes me happy because the less we give Roma the more it hampers them.

Quaresma is ongoing but it looks inevitable, though slow going that we will land him. It appears that we really want to land him, and I think that is a smart way to go. This from Tuttomercatoweb already translated:

Other than himself … As also supported yesterday by Tuttomercatoweb, the statements coming from Oporto about the possibility that Ricardo Quaresma remains in the ranks of Dragoes during the next season, are no more than a mere exercise pretattica.

On the other not appreciated even by the same player after learning the latest news has not even submitted to the session of training, citing as the reason (fantomatici?) Gastric problems.

The Inter, in fact, continues to work vigorously on this track, which has always been the favourite of Mourinho. The player has already been blocked, accepted the five proposed by Moratti and will not consider any destination other dall’Inter. From only determine the timing of an inevitable agreement between the two companies, given the will dell’Inter purchasing it, but on the other hand, even the Port of monetize with his assignment.

MAD, Roma have just put out a press release on the Mancini transfer and Daniele has the link on the Roma blog.

13 million in three annual installments, one friendly in 09-10 and performance bonuses that together can’t be worth more than 1.5 million to Roma. Not a word on Andreolli (there were rumours the deal had included the other half of his registration).

The Quaresma thing has been very quiet here, all of the focus has been on Lampard. I share your view that he will ultimately be an Inter player, but it wouldn’t shock me if it doesn’t happen until January (if Porto are out of the Champions League) or next summer.

    Vediamo.

So we keep our half of Andeolli? Outstanding.

We only give Roma 4.5 mil this year? Outstanding.

Performance Bonus of no more than 1.5? Nice, but I’m not thrilled.

We have to play a friendly (in Roma, for revenue)? Fine. Whatever.

So we keep/get players. Roma tries to squeeze every possible Euro from the deal as possible. Sounds like both sides got what they wanted/needed.

    Paolo:

I’m all for packing the midfield, but I doubt that we will play with less than four in the back. I am also suspicious of Viera’s ability to go a whole game for most of the season. In the past, I think he’s one of those that goes in after we’re ahead in the second half.

Besides, personally, I don’t see how Maxwell stays out of the starting lineup if he’s healthy.

Ronaldinho to Milan…can’t say I’m too happy about that. I know that he was crap last season, but the thought of a Kaka/Ronnie combination is pretty damn scary. Hopefully he remains crap haha

As for Quaresma, I have a feeling he will only come if Dejan or someone else who can get us a decent amount of money leaves. I just hope Moratti makes a 100-year anniversary uber-signing…neither Mancini nor Quaresma really qualify for that. Messi would be perfect, but is way out of our budget. I have a feeling either Silva or Villa from Valencia…

    Forza Inter

Given a choice I would take Villa over Silva. Watching Silva against Germany, I think that he can only be “spanish league or EPL guy” if you know what I mean.

Makes me sick to even think that we might lose Quaresma from Porto. I like his style of play.

I can take or drop Viera. But he does have tactical uses if he stays.

Kirby: Baccala makes me laugh, kinda like Danny-do. Besides, if there wasn’t a Roma fan boy here swearing at us and not knowing the difference between “opinion” and “fact” where would everyone at the Offsides get to feel so good that we’re not them?
