Coppa Italia – Unlikely But Not Impossible

By: Johonna | April 21st, 2009

Cruz against samp
What: Inter v Samp, Coppa Italia quaterfinal
When: Thursday, April 23, 8:45 local time (11:45am pacific, 2:45pm eastern)
Where: San Siro, Milan
How to Watch: find a stream (myp2p, Justin.tv, Rojadirecta, Ustream, and ATDHE.net).

Okay, Raggazzi, I dont have much time. Inter go into this tie with a 3-goal deficit. At this point, going through is a long shot, but stranger things have happened. I am sorry for the tiny little non-preview, but I am still on family duty. I will not be able to see the game so hopefully one of you will watch and tell us what happened.

I promise, next week I will be back on track.

MAD I doubt Ibra would go to Man City – they’re nowhere near the Champions League right now. I can see him move to Chelsea or Real, two clubs that would shell out big money and he might see as being CL competitors. Obviously I would prefer him to stay…

Realistically what do you think Inter could/should get for him? I guess it all depends if he tries to push his way out or not.

I rule out Man City because Ibra wants to win trophies. His pay packet doesn’t seem the issue.

Kabir, I don’t really care where he goes as long as we get compensation that makes sense. I mention Man City as a joke, because of the Kaka thing earlier this year.

The money that we *should* get from his sale should pay for his replacement. And frankly, anything we get for him will be a profit considering the 16 or so mil that we paid for him.

If Chelsea, Real, Man United, Barca, Bayern whomever want him then I am sure a deal could be worked out. Unlike Man City, they actually have players with which to deal with.

Maybe in a year or 2 after Messi has won the the CL and a couple Golden Balls he’ll be looking for a new challenge… Swap deal anyone? ;)

What would you all think of a Ibra+Cash for Drogba or Ibra+Cash for Eto’o switch?

Obviously it depends on how much cash but I’d definitely take Eto over Drogba. I like Drogba but he’ll be 32 or 33 when we sell Ibra. Eto is much different than Ibra and Drogba. We’d need to sign more creative players to play with him

If ibra wants to leave then inter should allow himt to do so is there anyway we can send him atletico’s way and get kun aguero ? Ahhh nah im dreaming there
Anyways as MAD pointed out getting 70 mil or so for him would be great in fact it might be the best thing that has happened to us think about it ibra never shows up when we need him the most with his sale money we can get a big game player and use the change to buy some good depth

Why are we even talking about Drogba? Mo’s project is to get leaner, younger, hungrier and faster to compete in several tournaments at the same time. Which of these categories does Drogba fit into?

As I think we discussed before, Eto’o and Ibra are not similar things. Eto’o is palatable only if we can find someone to feed him the ball, as he will not create on his own. As long as we are dreaming that Barca would include a player exchange, I would take Xabi and/or Iniesta (the engine of that particular team) over Eto’o, but they would never move.

If Barca wins the champions league, I don’t see them making huge changes like letting go of Xabi, Eto’o, and/or Iniesta. The reason I mentioned Real is that (I think) they’re getting a new president and usually that means a big signing. While everyone is talking about Ronaldo, it might just be Ibra. As for Eto’o, I would really prefer to get someone with Serie A experience or someone young (Aguero!).

How do you feel about Adebayor?

He is much more in the Ibra mold, and Arsenal will likely take a reasonable offer since they are so cheap.

Does the 6th team play in the UEFA/Europa Cup? I know the coppa italia winners and 5th do, but not sure about 6. Roma might be completely out of Europe. Incredible for the best team in Italy that only lost out last year because of the referees…

Well, if it is any consolation, the cold hard truth seems to be sinking into the fan-boys’ thick skulls over at the Roma board. I think they are finally starting to look around and realize that maybe the team should have done more to hold onto Giuly, Mancini, and Ferrari. Sure, they may not be the best, but they seem to be better than their replacements this season.

And, as far as I know, only 5th and 6th go straight to Europa (along with the coppa winners), 7th is out of everything.

Gosh did Roma lose today… I think that I will dedicate the chard flesh that I am about to masticate like a starving caveman in memory…

    Of Fiorentina!

And I missed you, Johonna. I would like to hear who you think are plausible replacements for Zlatan should he go, and where you think he could go with his salary.

You know, the stuff that we have been chewing on while you were famlicating.

Any thoughts that Spazetti gets the ax and goes to Atalanta or Sampdoria or a newly promoted team this summer?

    Thank you MAD!

Hmmm, I have had a few moments to read the comments here and I must say, I would be chuffed to see Ibra leave this year.

If he goes, though, I think Real Madrid seems the likeliest option. They may be getting a new president and Zlatan would make a nice present to the fans. Still, Ibra likes winners and Real Madrid is not doing that great this season.

He would probably prefer to be linked with Barcelona but, frankly, they dont need him. Why fix something that isn’t broken? If he did go to Barca, then that may mean Eto’o was coming to Inter. I dont think they need both players.

Ibra has said he would like to play in England, but where? There is no room for him and ManU. Chelsea is a possibility, but I dont know if he would find his way there under Ancellotti. Plus, who would go to make room for him? No way he goes to a club unless he is a solid starter. Liverpool? Can they afford him?

You would think it would be easy to find another club for Ibra, but I actually think it is a bit tricky.

I think Ibra will stay one more year. He will look to the club to bring him a real striking partner next year – say Aguero (who I bet is closer than you think) or Tevez – and a top-notch creative midfielder. Someone who will really help him shine.

As for Spalletti – I bet you all cash money that he is on the bench for Roma next season.
