Derby Time
By: Johonna | September 27th, 2008Johonna’s SO again–she’s out of town
Milan was off the a rocky start this season but seems to be improving. I’m confident of an Inter victory, but don’t want to take anything for granted. Sounds like Ancelotti is confident (I’ll keep track of the chocolate bars and smokes). “Am I worried about the derby? I was a lot more preoccupied before the game with Lazio” he said.
The Ibra and Kaka show
Channel 4 thinks that Shevchenko (the so called “Inter killer”) up from with Pato.
Channel 4 has this lineup:
Milan (probable): Abbiati; Zambrotta, Maldini, Kaladze, Favalli; Ambrosini, Gattuso, Seedorf; Kaka; Pato, Shevchenko
Inter (probable): Julio Cesar; Maicon, Cordoba, Materazzi, Chivu; Vieira, Cambiasso, Zanetti; Mancini, Ibrahimovic, Adriano
We’ll be without Figo tomorrow. The Inter star has suffered a fracture to the third metatarsal in his right foot. According to the Inter web site, “Considering the fracture is not too serious, there are no operations planned by the club’s medical staff.”
Here is a little cartoon about the derby for everyone’s enjoyment.

Well said. I think the fact that Werder gave up four goals to Hoffenheim at the weekend (while scoring five) will encourage his attacking instincts.
But the midfield has to be dramatically better than it was against Milan. I think that an element in the petulance evident in some of Mou’s reactions to the loss is tied to his realisation that Muntari may well have made a difference last night (and that he had underestimated how much he would be missed).
He’d be the first name on my team sheet against Bremen.

clever rationalisation but totally erroneous of course as Milan already has nine tenths of Inter’s points.

Which is better than they have done for several years now.
Complimenti!

Well even Rossoneri don’t have it in their heart to let their neighbours weep for another two decades. Consider the head starts given and distractions of glory elsewhere as part of the great magnanimity of AC Milan towards their inferior and erstwhile trophy-less fellow townsmen. It was starting to become even embarrassing for us, that Inter ‘run’.

Sky Sports showing the goal was NOT an offside.

One of the problems with the 4-3-3 is that the midfield has to be really fluid. Muntari, Cambiasso and Zanetti have the “gas” and the ability to go forward and backward. But I question whether Vieira has the gas anymore.
Stankovic may have been a better choice last night… or at least bringing him on sooner may have been the better choice last night. Whether it would have made any difference is hard to tell. Would-haves are hard to figure, although some think that they can figure them better than others… how I am not sure.
The midfield may be the one place that Inter go over the winter window. Interestingly , it was the pickup that Mancio had to make last season also (Maniche). I hope that Muntari’s clone is available somewhere…

I just saw this on TMW. You just have to love UEFA sometimes. Congrats to Juventus and Fiorentina for their newly recognized Championships!

Inter has apparently played Werder Bremen before in the Champions League: 1 win and 1 draw. 3 goals for and 1 against.

MAD, I didn’t really understand that Uefa thing. Either you believe Juve has 29 scudetti (as I do) or you believe we have 27.

Alessio, in a media guide of some kind, for the Champions League, UEFA published some facts about each team.
As I understand it, Juventus was assigned 28 Scudetti and Fiorentina was assigned a Coppa Italia won in 196something (it was actually won in 1996, I think) in the little blurbs about each team.
But due to the rather sensitive subject of Juve’s Scudetti total, UEFA made a groveling apology to the FIGC saying that it was an honest mistake and that they are not taking Juve’s side in the different versions of “Scudetto reality” that currently exists.
I thought it was funny how what appears to be a small typo could turn into something much, much bigger.

Kirby, I am right there with you. I resorted to Pet Therapy yesterday and today.

Ahhhhhhh I read it wrong. I thought they said originally said we won 27 and then declared 28.

MAD, while pet therapy is certainly nice (I have 2 doggies myself), I heartily recommend a bottle of Nebbiolo. I am feeling MUUCCHH better now.

A. linked this photo (http://i34.tinypic.com/2wpjh9y.jpg) of Kaka being onside.
What a champion! if only inter had such a good player lol.

By the way, the picture by patcook shows Kaka offsides.
Materazzi’s foot and shoulder is the line. Kaka’s foot is over it.
The rule reads: any part of the body over the line of the last defender is offsides. Kaka looks like he has a foot and an arm over it.
Thanks patcook. That clears it up nicely for me.

Ok MAD, that is slightly TMI!
I suppose I am just glad you are feeling better.

….and if you don’t believe me about the offside rule, feel free to watch this

No MAD, you are clutching at straws. Materrazzi’s foot is the line. His own shoulders and arms are over the line too. FYI, the offside law also states that the benefit of any doubt should go to the attacker. It was a brilliant decision and more like that is needed at the top level.

Funny, I seem to be holding nothing, physically. Philosophically I am told that I have the whole world in my hands. My car has a clutch, though. That might be the only place for straw as this is an “urban” environment.
And Kaka was definitely offsides by almost half his body, although one foot is enough. According to FIFA.
You guys keep coming over here. Are you trying to convince someone of something? Are you hoping against hope that if you keep coming over here someone will finally agree with you? One more convert for the Milan religion?
It’s not going to happen. All that will happen, however is that I will continue to be amused. I come on this website and I talk football with people or I get to laugh at other people.
It’s all win-win for me.

MAD, i feel your pain bro but i think its about time we look to the future and not back to the past. its done. we lost. we all vomited as if we were bulimics. teh point i’m getting at is that we shouldnt let this shit bother us too much. we’re still champions of italia and we have UCL football to look forwrd to mid-week. ac gets to look forward to some random shit team beating them in a second rate cup.

A., the International Board decisions explicitly state that one doesn’t take arms into account when judging whether a player is in an offside position.
Look at the section on Rule 11 here
http://www.vadcsoccerref.com/docs/home/200506Changes.pdfor at page 99 of the version of the Laws on FIFA’s site:
http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/federation/81/42/36/lotg_en_55753.pdfI also think you will find that there is nothing about “benefit of the doubt” in either the Laws or the official IFAB rulings (though I don’t dispute the fact that it is a standard that is widely applied).
I also agree with kirby that it is time to move on.

Good Ursus thanks for confirming that the (non) decision was the right one. Now tell that to MAD who’s making an issue of the body parts.
@MAD, you could have fooled me.

The decision is confirmed as the wrong one to me.
And I don’t even need anyone to tell me what to think.
And arms are generally not taken into account for offsides, I agree.
But feet are.
@A., doesn’t take much, huh?
