Friendly: Inter v Locarno
By: Johonna | September 4th, 2008
When: Friday Sept 5, 6pm local time (noon eastern, 9AM pacific)
Where: Stadio del Lido, Locarno, Switzerland
Streaming: Absolutely nowhere that I can find. Hopefully we can at least listen on Inter Radio.
Yep, to keep the non-internationals on their toes, Mou has scheduled a friendly against the Swiss team F.C. Locarno and boy, are they excited. For those of you who dont know (such as me before I looked it up), Locarno is on the north shore of Lago Maggiore, about 10 km from the Italian border.
According to the Locarno webpage, Burdisso, Chivu, Mancini and Rivas will be available for the game. Vieira, Samuel, and Cordoba may also make an appearance. Actually, Cordoba said he was ready for Samp:
I was already available against Sampdoria because I’m at the end of this injury and there was the possibility of me being used in an emergency situation. And now we have this friendly against Locarno, which is mostly for those who are back from injury. I think I will be ready for the next league match.
I think that Quaresma will play, although with this game only on the Inter Channel, I doubt I will get to actually see him. You know, you would think that clubs would realize that they have world-wide fan bases and allow people to subscribe to these channels on line. Moving on…
So who we might see:
Toldo
Chivu Cordoba Samuel Mei (or Santon, I cant remember which plays the wings)
Vieira Stankovic Bolzoni (I forgot, he is on international duty)
Mancini Cruz Quaresma
Other youth players that may get some time:
Jean Bindzy Ebila Mbida (defender),
Rene Krhin (midfielder),
Joel Chukwuma Obi (midfielder)
I have no idea if Adriano is ready to come back or not. He has been filling out paperwork for the last couple of days instead of training so it does not seem likely.
As for F.C. Locarno, I cannot find all that much about them. I can say that they have not been winning – they are 15 points off the league leader. I bet that even with our team of youth players and walking wounded we can beat a 14th place second league team from Switzerland.
So, tune in to Inter Radio (you will need winamp or something else that plays *.pls files) and I will see you here (although 9am is rather early for me).
FORZA INTER
And that Mediaset ad with Ibra on La Gazzetta’s web page is driving me MAD! They managed to take a pretty goofy-looking guy and make him look even more the dork. Yikes.

I noticed that too for tickets, but I wasn’t sure if they sold in advance or not. I’m planning on trying to get tickets online, but if not I’ll try once I’m in Milan. I’m staying virtually across the street so it should be easy enough for me to stroll over there.
I’ve never been to Milan, nor have I been to an Inter game.

Ok. You got one chance. Whomever you are, you are not Bashar and given that, you are an infantile ass. We are having adult time here. Why dont you go to your room ’cause you are not going to play here.

Was it the same IP that posted as MAD on the Juventus page? I posted it in the last post, the Zidane one at the end.

Yep, that’s the guy. I blacklisted that IP from this blog.

You know, I’ve been making stupid mistakes all day. Honestly, I don’t know where my head is at today. Sorry Johonna, I guess I have been on a mental holiday or something.

Evan, the Meazza is actually one of the worst places to try to buy tickets, except on the day of the match.
If the online option doesn’t work (and it should, though picking tickets up on match day can be a bit of pain), you need to go to a branch of Banca Popolare di Milano (there are loads of them) or the Feltrinelli in Piazza Piemonte (on the 16 tram line from San Siro). Details for both should be on the link above.
Paolo, the Milan season ticket is a very furbo solution to the problem of derby tickets and will almost certainly be the cheapest way to go, provided that you can get one in time (they may close subscriptions before the Derby). You would not be the only Interista to do it, either.

Thanks ursus! Do you know if I can purcashe the Season Ticket online anywhere? I can’t seem to find the option on Milan’s website and I find the bestticket.it website to be extremely vague.

Highly doubtful.
Since the required introduction of the “nominativo” tickets, the entire process has become very dependent on the person in whose name the ticket is issued paying for it and picking it up in person (or at least issuing a power of attorney to the person who does that).
This page from the Milan Italian-language site (http://www.acmilan.com/infoPage.aspx?id=68215) indicates that your only hope is to try to a branch of IntesaSanPaolo (there are hundreds).

Figured. Problem is I am in Toronto right now and won’t be in Milano until the 27th. My options are very limited. I have cousins in Vicenza and Torino who said they would be willing to help me, but not exactly sure how they could.
I emailed bestticket.it (as per Milan’s website) asking them for specific times and dates when the tickets will be going on sale and they responded saying they no longer sell tickets for Milan.
I have emailed my hotel and asked them if there is anything they might be able to for us. Waiting for a response from them.
My very last, and most likely to do, option is paying about EUR 200 for undisclosed seats. All I know is they are long side and could be 1st, 2nd or 3rd ring in the south half of the stadium. I am not quite sure what it hinges on. The site just says I will recieve the best availbale tickets upon booking.

I would suggest that you ask your cousins to go to a local branch of IntesaSanPaolo and ask there. SanPaolo is headquartered in Torino, but there are also multiple branches in Vicenza.
I would expect any tickets to go on general sale about a week before the match.

ursus.. I forget if I asked this before but do you work for an Italian newspaper or magazine or something? You seem to know a lot more about the world of calcio than an average (or even knowledgeable) fan. It sounds to me like you have more direct involvement in calcio that we do.

Paolo, just so you know, I expect some sort of first hand narrative of these games (sooooo envious) for this board. If you dont mind, I will email you so you have my email address. That way, you can send me your stuff and I will put it up on the board. Hey, if you take photos, you can send me some of those too.
I want details!

Bashar, that is much too kind (troppo gentile, as we would say in Italian), but I’m afraid that my football journalist days are about 25 years in my past. Strangely enough, given that it is you that asked, one of the last articles I wrote was an account of the ‘84 European Cup Final that “you” lost to Liverpool.
Now I’m just a lawyer, and actually try to keep my professional activities and my passion for calcio separate (though I don’t always succeed). That said, there is a certain bit of knowledge that comes from having followed Serie A for more than 30 years. Most of all, though, a lot comes from having lived here for the last four years and come to really appreciate just how much the sport permeates daily life here. There is a lot about daily life in Italy that doesn’t make sense when you are here, but there is much, much more that is impenetrable from afar.
All of that (plus Italian fluency, good internet connections and a certain level of income) means that I have more to work with than many posters here, and I like to think that I can help those of you who care just as much, but haven’t (yet) been as lucky as I have been (or are as old I am).

Johonna, not a problem! Send me the info & I can try and send an update/photos after the match.
Still not 100% sure if I am going to the Champions League Match. If it were soley up to me I would, but I have to consider my friends that are not as big on Calcio as I am. I told them the one demand I had for the trip was the Derby, which they agreed to! I have informed them of the CL match & the decision will likely be made while we are there.

The one that I had to finally blacklist? I dont know. The person only posted here under the name of MAD or Bashar and it was quite clear they were neither. They also posted on the Juve board.
I gave them a chance but since it was clearly done to incite some sort of argument (I think we all mostly just sort of confused), out they go. I am against censorship as a rule so it made me uncomfortable, but I think it had to be done.
You all had better watch out now, though, cause now I am giddy with power! MWA HAHAHA!

Ursus, I remember you saying you’re from NYC of Polish descent. (if my memory serves me correctly) How’d you end up as a lawyer in Milan? Of all occupations, law means you must have had a strong grasp of Italian before moving.

Johonna – your last comment made me laugh because I delete anything remotely insulting or inflammatory. I’ll lead the Serie section in most deletions! LOL

ursus.. during your work did you get to meet any famous players or coaches for interviews?

Bashar, I think that I know a little bit more about football that Tacopina (you’ll recall that I told you guys he was a three dollar bill from the outset).
Interviewing players for articles is rather different than meeting them socially, and the 80s were much less structured than things are now. I can tell you that Falcao was (and I presume still is) a nice guy (and that the Roma team of that era was definitely something special).
Ale, I don’t practice Italian law (though I know a reasonable bit about it). I’m an international transactional lawyer, and virtually all of the deals that I work on are done under US and/or English law. I was in Frankfurt before we came to Milan, and continue to work throughout Europe.
And while we are on questions, I’ve been meaning to ask you if classes have started yet. Have the hurricanes effected you directly? I have a friend in Algiers who only got to go home over the weekend and is now worrying about Ike.
