Hey Guys, Its Not Quite Over Yet
By: Johonna | May 23rd, 2009
What: Cagliari v Inter
Where: Stadio Sant’Elia, Cagliari
When: Sunday, 3pm local time (6am pacific, 9am eastern)
How to Watch: FSC is not showing it – not even on delay – so find a stream (MyP2P, Justin.tv, Rojadirecta, Ustream, and ATDHE.net).
Before everyone goes off on their respective summer holidays, Inter still have two more games to play. True, we have already won the championship, but there is still something to be gained from these two last games. I really really really want to win these last two. No, it is not about rubbing noses or even finishing with the most amount of points possible. It is much more basic than that: Cagliari and Atalanta are the only two teams Inter have not beaten this season. I would very much like to change that.
Last year, Inter won this fixture 0-2. After a whole lot of flailing around in front of goal, Cagliari finally made a couple defensive errors that Cruz then Suazo were able to capitalize on. Here are the highlights from that match:
THEM
Jeremy does a great job over at the Cagliari board and has already got a preview up (I did say he was good). Go check it out.
Massimiliano Allegri has given his formation for the game
“These will play: Marchetti in goal, Pisano, Canini, Lopez and Agostini in defense, Fini, Conti and Parola in center field, Cossu as trequartista, Jeda and Acquafresca in front.”
So there you go.
US
Mourinho has called up 18 players:
Goalkeepers: Toldo, Orlandoni.
Defenders: Cordoba, Burdisso, Materazzi, Samuel, Chivu, Santon.
Midfielders: Zanetti, Jimenez, Vieira, Cambiasso, Mancini, Bolzoni.
Strikers: Ibrahimovic, Cruz, Obinna, Balotelli.
Figo, Julio Cesar, Muntari and Stankovic have had the week off, and just as expected, were not called up. Everyone else is injured.
Mourinho’s press conference to day focused largely on the 99.9% comment he made last week (basically, he said that he was 99.9% sure that he will be at Inter next season.)
Good news for us is that he has now amended that to 99.99% sure he is staying next season, leaving that last 0.01% chance up to “destiny.”
Amidst all this math, he did find time to talk formations, saying:
“I still have some doubts, but I can say that there will be Toldo, Santon, Burdisso, Materazzi, Chivu, Cambiasso, Zanetti, Vieira, Ibrahimovic, and I have yet to decide two other players.”
Hmmm, Mancini or Jimenez and Balotelli or Cruz. I vote for a little play time for both. Because I want to win this game, lets start with Balotelli and Mancini. If we are wining at the 75th minute, bring in Bolzoni.
He also expressed his admiration for Deco and told everyone his three favorite Number 10s:
“Kakà, Gerrard and Iniesta.”
None of which will ever play for Inter.
As for our other goal, that of wining a golden boot for Ibra, Di Vaio simply cannot quit scoring. It is maddening. As I write this, the tally stands at (top 5):
Marco Di Vaio (Bologna): 23
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Inter): 22
Diego Milito (Genoa): 20
Alberto Gilardino (Fiorentina): 19
Kaká (Milan): 15
So, not only does Ibra have to outscore that energizer bunny Di Vaio, but he has to also look over his shoulder for Milito. Part of me (a tiny sliver) wants Di Vaio to win. After all, this could be his swansong. Ibra will have other years, other chances, but at 32, things could be winding down for Marco. Then I come to my senses and it is Ibra all the way.
As for the game, I think we can win. Certainly, Mou will want to win and Ibra will want to score, but, on the other side, Cagliari would just looooove to show the champions up. I dont usually do predictions, but I think we will win, but Cagliari will score.
OTHER NEWS
Last week was the Premio San Siro Gentleman 2009 awards. The winners for Inter are:
Javier Zanetti won the Premio Calciatore Gentleman Nazionale award
Esteban Cambiasso won the FC Internazionale Gentleman 2009
Davide Santon won the Best Revelation 2008/9 award.
Beppe Baresi won the “Premio Gentleman alla Carriera” award
The best goal for inter, as selected by the subscribers of the Inter Channel, is Maicon’s against Torino:
Also, the first official biography of Javier Zanetti has been released. It is entitled Capitano e Gentiluomo and I have already put it on my birthday wish list.

Oh, and E has thoughtfully provided a link to some possibly leaked kits for next year. They could just as easily be completely bogus. Check out the pictures here and decide for yourself. (Thanks again E!)
Allora Raggazzi, ci sono 6 punti e li voglio!
FORZA INTER
And just in case anyone missed it, here is Balotelli’s new hair style:

I heard as much as Johonna. Chelsea, Inter and “other clubs” are negotiating.
And I agree with the sentiment of not wanting De Rossi. After last season’s crying, last off season’s comical bragging and this season’s whining he can stay at Roma City.

Personally, I would love it if you took DDR..
Rip the heart out those bastards

Roma= PSG of Serie A

So this Quaresma to Genoa rumor…
Does this mean it is Quaresma who is taking Aquafresca’s place in the deal for Milito and Motta?
I don’t want De Rossi. He could rot at, and with, Roma. As far as I’m concerned, on top of the things he has said, he really isn’t that good of a player in my opinion and far too tempermental.
I am not happy about this Mourinho getting more money thing either, unless there were incentives built into his original contract that stipulated he would receive a pay increase for meeting certain targets during his 1st season.

I think the Quaresma deal is seperate (if it’s real) from the Acqua – Milito, Motta deal.
From the rumors that abound, 1/2 of Quaresma for 10 mil Euros.
The two clubs apparently have discovered that they are complmentary in their needs and friendly in their dealings.
I think I recently did read something about certain incentives – I don’t know which, but I can guess – being worked into his contract.
I think he’s a good manager and so far, his ideas for the club fall reasonably close to my own, so I can’t say anything bad about him. The only quibble I have is that I would not have given Acqua for Motta – although I understand why he did.
I would have paid outright for Milito + the loans and I would have raided Udinese for 2 of their midfielders and I would have given them any amount of the legion of 20ish year olds that we have on roster for 1/2 purchase or loan.
It’s a difference I can live with

Thanks for clearing that up MAD.
I think Mourinho is a great Manager. I am happy to have him with the club. I also like the ideas he has and the direction the club is going and didn’t want to see him go. Not thrilled about Acquafresca but, like you, I could deal with it.
Admist all the “99%” talk, I would not be happy if he accepted more money that was offered to him because of the Real Madrid rumors, or if he used those rumors to force Moratti’s hand. Just seems odd for him to get a pay increase for winning a trophy we were favoured to win while having comparable #’s to last term when managed by Mancio.

I’d actually like to have De Rossi. I know he’s got a bad attitude and he said some nasty things about Inter last year but the man is class. He’s a player who would help us to the next level. I would love to see another team try to navigate through a DR-Cambiasso-Zanetti midfield. But his inclusion + Motta would mean Muntari is pushed down to 5th choice and I’m not sure if he deserves that.
MAD, Branislav Ivanović is prob who you are talking about. Fiorentina almost got him in January but since then he’s come up with some big displays in the Champions League and it’s not looking like Chelski is gonna let him go.
And Deco isn’t a EPL type player. Too physical, too much running. Just like Veron. Not a good fit. Get him back together w/ Mou, and w/ two finishers like Milito & Ibra and I’ll put money on 10+ assists his first year in Serie A. And another classy player.

I agree De Rossi is a fantastic player even though he’s bitter about not winning shit. if we’re gonna contend for the CL we need a player like Deco. As of now with the transfers that have happened, we would not make it past the quarters.

Yeah I think Deco is better suited for Italy than England. There are a lot of players I’d rather have than him though

I think anyone would take DDR but I’d be shocked if he left Roma

Well, apparently he is a player that could potentially bring in the bucks. He said he doesn’t want to go but would understand if the club needed to sell him for the cash.
I dont want him because everyone would know that his heart would be elsewhere. The whole thing would feel like indentured servitude no matter how many millions he was being paid – icky.

I wouldnt be overly suprised if DDR goes to inter. Theres no more bad blood than there was between Juve and fio duriing the Baggio transfer

I think Mourinho is staying partly because of his ability to attract good players. Maybe not ability… but we know for sure that high profile coaches do attract good players. I hope we don’t get a Chelsea reject like Deco. Milito and Motta are good deals especially considering they don’t have huge wages. Cruz has to leave. Viera has to leave also. Inter most probably won’t win CL next year but has a great chance next next year for sure. In order to do that Inter needs to start a new cycle. Like someone said it is in the best interest of inter to get rid of non-starting old players like Crespo, Cruz, Viera, Dacourt who has high wages. If I was Mourinho I would splash money on Modric. He is amazing faster than Diego. Plus, I think he is attainable b/c Tottenham is not even in Europa league. I say 25m + Burdisso + Materazzi/Rivas/Maxwell or 15m + Muntari. Obviously I prefer the first deal but I don’t think Tottenham is that stupid.

Y do inter need to “start a new cycle”? youve won 4 Serie A titles in a row. Sure theres a few oldies u need to bucket but I hardly call it a new cycle just cos you ditch 3 or 4 guys who have one foot in retirement anyway.

If we already have Motta and Milito imo all we need is a #10 and a defender to get to the next level in europe. 2-3 youth players should be promoted also

a 10 ? what about coutinho ?

Arto, Deco would fit right into our squad. he’s an amazing player. he’s a chelsea reject because he’s not an EPL player. i could have predicted that one before he went there.

BTW there are reports that after arnautovic met with the special one he decided that inter is best for him therefore he said no to chelsea . if that was really the case then we’d be set up front
i also read that suazo wants to come back how do you guys feel about that ?Posted from
United States

-

deco’s good no doubt about it but i think we should go for a younger playmaker or we’ll be back to square one in a couple of season
Posted from

I feel the same way about Suazo as I do about Quaresma: They deserve a chance to prove themselves. I think they should come back to Inter for summer training and see if they are good enough for a spot. If not, then we can look for another placing for them.

I totally agree with Johonna. I think it’s bit unfair for Quaresma for he joined at the end of transfer window. Plus, he joined from a different league. He had to adopt to a different country, away from family and so on. Although I think the importance of adaptation is somewhat over-rated, I do admit that it is hard for some players. Keep him till end of July and see how he do at least in that cup we are participating. It is not late to offload him then to Genoa for we have a good relationship with them. I think Roma, Fiorentina, Lazio would all gamble on him if we let co-ownership an option for them. I personally think Suazo wasn’t bad at all in his first season for Inter.
Somehow it’s hard to believe, Mourinho actually talked to Arnatovic. Is he really that importance for the upcoming season??
Posted from
United States

-

i guess he is because the reports suggest that mourinho even promised him first team football
as for suazo if he can learn how to play with his head up he could bring a lot to the table his pace is unreal , he has a powerful shot and his dribbling ability is spot on but his selfiness will be the reason why he wont make it at inter dude never passes the ball i cant remember how many times he had me pulling my hair in 08 and that shit hurts i should sue him for that

patcook, don’t take this as I knock but I always thought the reason Milan fell off is because they did revitalize after their Champions League win. They got guys like Pato and Gourcuff. But the majority of their signings were older guys (Favalli, Schevchenko, Vieri, Emerson, Oddo).
“The Next Ibra” might come in handy if the real one leaves next summer. Gotta prepare for the future.
About Deco, everyone said Figo was washed up when he came to Inter. And he’s racked up 104 apperances and four league titles.
I’ll root for Suazo, wherever he goes. But his feet are about as agile as Materazzi’s. And that’s the type of player that Inter needs to move away from if they’re going to make some waves in the CL. Rivas and Obinna are on that list too. Muntari would be have been on there as well but he scored against Juve. So he gets a pass.
