Ale, add me to the list of people who can’t stand C. Ronaldo. I hate Real Madrid more than any other football club in the world, but if it is between him and Iker, I’ll wrap myself in the Spanish flag and sing Hala Madrid at the top of my lungs. And yeah, it’s ridiculous to judge mercati after six matches. My Portuguese friends all say that Quaresma will take time to settle, especially as he needs to develop an understanding with his teammates over how and when be should use his trademark “trivela”. I am quite confident that La Gazzetta will be singing a different tune in six months.

MAD, De Rossi’s first yellow was for dissent (and not picked up by the RAI cameras). And I couldn’t agree with you more about Muntari. Within the first 15 minutes of the Catania match it was clear that this was a guy who just belongs here (at least as long as Mou stays).

And yes, it is sacrilege to compare anyone with Javier Zanetti, but from an attitude perspective that is exactly the comparison that occurred to me.

Quaresma promises so much when he’s on the field, you get a sense that playing with the same cast for three months as opposed to one, he will be very useful. He just turned 25. He’ll be fine.

Btw I thought that the De Rossi red was for tackle from behind. I didn’t even see that he had a yellow.

Anyone else get the feeling like Sully is likely to stay for the long haul? I think that he really likes it here. Plus, his enthusiasm reminds me a lot of Javier ten years ago. I don’t think that Sully has Javier’s class, but he plays all out.

We needed a Thumper on this team.

Sigh. Quaresma was supposed to be better. Of course, while not a revelation, he is nice to have as an option. Also, I think it may take a few months to settle in to Italian football. Who know, this time next year we all may be quite impressed.

Muntari, though, I like him lots and lots.

Ursus, good. I don’t think CR7 deserves it, both professionally and because I just cannot stand him. Casillas does. I think rising up to big occasions is a very important factor of the Ballon d’Or as well as the team leadership, and in both cases CR7 fails.

Side note, Gazzetta published a rating of team’s mercatos. Interesting to see how they judged Inter’s. (And yes, I agree it’s way too early to make an evaluation)

And ale, Marca has been pushing the Casillas for Balon d’Or bandwagon since Madrid won the Liga, and has been in overdrive since they won the Euros. My guess is that their campaign will be as effective as the half dozen that they ran in favour of Raul.

Yesterday’s Gazzetta had Kaka supporting Messi, and I think that Iniesta deserves serious consideration; it’s better than baseless transfer speculation.

Exactly.

The standard suspension for a straight red for violent conduct is 3 matches, that for two yellows is 1 match. A straight red for dissent (like the one that Materazzi got from the bench in the Derby, carries a 1 match ban).

In all cases, the length of the suspension can be modified by the Giudice Sportivo, but the above is the baseline from which the process starts.

De Rossi’s was two yellows (one for dissent), Muntari’s was “violent conduct.” (I believe)
