I guess it just doesnt matter to me. I watch a game, I like a team or a player – Hooray. It really doesnt even occur to me to ask if where the player is from. It is just irrelevant. If you watch football for nationalistic reasons, watch the national teams. And I didnt say it was racist – only xenophobic. I find it distasteful to put people into a “foreigner” or “local” box then base their relative value on which box you decide to put them in.

We will have to agree to disagree.

Really? Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United seem to be doing well with a fair amount of English players. So is Juventus, Milan, and Roma. Real Madrid and Barcelona both have at least 3-4 Spaniards in the first team as well. Is it a global football market? Duh. But that doesn’t mean good teams can’t have nationals.

Johonna, Robert, it’s not racism. I prefer English players in the EPL. I didn’t say exclusively, I have no probably with a team being majority foreigners, but there should certainly be at LEAST two homegrown players.

And no, if you’re asking, I don’t consider Camoranesi Italian when it comes to this. It’s not about your passport, or your national team, it’s about where you grew up, etc. Like why Trezeguet I think probably should have played for Argentina. (but playing for France is ok) Camo isn’t Italian, and neither is J.Zanetti. If Juve was exclusively foreign I’d be irritated too. I’m not asking for 11 Italians on the pitch, but at least 2-3. It is the Italian Serie A.

Robert you are talking bull. So what you are saying is everytime a footballer sees a ball coming to his face he should be allowed to use his hand to deflect the ball? Yup that’s intentional handball and its in the box so its a penalty.

It’s not to that point yet, but it may get there. I support the team and players because I like them. Not because of their nationalities.

Still, a loss had to happen sooner or later. At least now Inter remembers what it feels like (not good, Im thinking). Perhaps we just got complacent. I hope this will be a learning experience and we can take something positive away from it.

Alessio, Im sorry, but this whole “Inter doesnt have Italians” thing is starting to annoy me. It just smacks of an ugly sort of xenophobia that is beginning to get under my skin. So, for say, Juve or something, do you only support the “Italian” players? What about Camoranesi? Is he Italian or Argentinian? Is it all about the passport? or is heritage enough?

Really, get over it. You can hate Inter – that is your prerogative, but if you hate them because of the nationality of their players that is pretty crappy.

I will now get off my soapbox and go about my normal activities. =0)

I support all Italian teams in the CL, with the exception of Inter. Not just because of my distaste for the team, but there’s no italians on the team, so what’s the point?

Even if I dislike Inter intensely, that Materazzi card was some serious bullshit. But it’s karma, I guess.

Robert- Ibra, with clear sight of the ball, dipped his shoulder towards it and hit it with his arm…hand ball. He’s clever enough to get away with it and the Ref didn’t call it. End of story.

As for Vieria…I would think the natural reflex of a player of his caliber and experience would be to not raise his hands to the ball to protect his face (for what that’s worth). Unless of course, he was experienced enough to know where the ref and the linesmen were positionsed and knew he could get away with it. Nah, not Vieria.

Either way, Liverpool still won.

I admit the first yellow card may have been harsh but totally disagree about the 2nd one. He was beaten by Torres for pace and a blind man could see him tugging him back. Torres did fall to ground too easily but giving away a free-kick for a tug of the shirt in that position of the pitch you are always likely to receive a yellow card. Materazzi was that stupid that even though he knew he had already been shown a yellow card he foolishly thought the ref would give him the benefit of the doubt.
