Inter Grind Out One More Win – Inter 1 – 0 Anorthosis
By: Johonna | October 22nd, 2008
THANK YOU INTER FOR ONE MORE WIN.
Yes, it was a slog.
Yes, Anorthosis played with 7 men in the box for the whole game.
Yes, Inter squandered opportunities and lacked the creativity shown in the Roma game on Sunday.
But we won.
Inter now stand at 7 points, topping Group B, and are just that much closer to qualifying. As you can see, Pupi is just as happy with the win as I am. If I were there, I would also throw myself into the capable arms of Toldo (sigh, if only). Adriano’s goal after the jump. That link died. I found some highlights instead – thoughtfully set to swelling rock music. Hopefully UEFA wont get this one too.
I apologize for the poor quality, but UEFA apparently is cracking down on these highlight videos and only the very worst are available. I found a better video, but who knows how long it will last. The rest of the game can [still] be summed up quite nicely by these pictures:

.
Basically, Anorthosis played a very defensive game. Every time someone got the ball, they had to get through a sea of Cypriots to get to the goal. And then, except for the wonderful play by Ibra, Maicon, and Adriano, the ball just would not go into the net. Everyone was frustrated.

.
In the end, though, Anorthosis could not absorb a full 90 without conceding. Adriano finished a brilliant cross by Maicon to bag his 18th Champions League goal with Inter. Bravo Adriano!

.
NUTS AND BOLTS
Here is Mou’s lineup:
Toldo
Maicon, Cordoba, Chivu, Zanetti;
Stankovic, Cambiasso (Burdisso 83), Muntari;
Adriano (Cruz 82), Ibrahimovic, Mancini (Quaresma 63).
Subs not used: Julio Cesar, Materazzi, Santon, Balotelli.
That Burdisso for Cambiasso substitution had me scratching my head, but appearently Cuchu has strained something (please oh please, let it not be serious) and at 83 minutes we might as well hunker down with the goal lead. There is no word on Cambiasso yet, only what Mourniho had to say after the game:
We’re worried about Cambiasso, but hopefully it’s just a slight injury. He’s an expert player and he stopped before making things worse. Our problems are in midfield where we’re without Vieira and Zanetti who is playing at full-back, but this is our life and we have to continue.
Needless to say, I am also worried.
—————–
So there you go, one more down and looking forward to hosting Genoa at the San Siro on Sunday. I am attempting to rectify myself with the knowledge that in order to watch this game I will have to get up at 6am on Sunday morning. How I long for the return of SerieA.tv.
Ciao Ragazzi, ci vediamo a presto.
FORZA INTER
Oh and for last, this strangely disturbing picture of Adriano:

good win for inter, hope they and juve continue to do well this year in the CL, at least one italian side has to make the semi’s this year and i cant see roma or fiorentina doing it even if they recover to make it out of the group stage.

E, for some reason your last comment got eaten by the spam karma machine. I have restored it for you. Hopefully that will stop it from happening in the future.

asem, the first part was just to make fun of the guy using all the Roma board pictures.
But the second part of my post is just my opinion of watching the game. I acknowledge that Chelsea is a good team and their home field is hard to win at. But I thought that Roma played in a way that showed that the coach doesn’t trust the team to play in their regular style… that he played to hold the score down.
But, the low score doesn’t mean that Roma is was close to beating Chelsea, they were close to forcing a draw. I think it’ll be interesting to see what tactic Roma chooses when Chelsea come to Italy.

Great Goal.com article headline- “Chiellini MOCKS Inter”
” In his latest anti-Inter comments…”
If you read the Italian, he says without Ibra and Maicon Inter would struggle a lot more than they are. Goal.com of course omits this quote “Gli altri sono tutti grandi giocatori ma senza quei due farebbero tanta tanta fatica.” Typical trash.

I want to know, from Chiellini, just exaclty how Inter is struggling?
They have 16 of 21 points in Serie A. Only Lazio has more goals for, only Catania has conceded less, they have best goal differential in Serie A… and oh yes, they top the table… 7 points clear of Chiellini’s team after 7 rounds!!
Zlatan and Maicon are huge parts to Inter’s puzzle, but suppose they weren’t there. There would have to be 2 other players on the roster. Who knows who those players would be and who knows how well, or poor, Inter would be with them.
Chiellini needs to stop focusing on Inter and more of what his team needs to do. A win against Real Madrid does not entirely right the ship. I understand he wants to cause some drama, but its going to take a lot more than one good challenege and a dirty look to conquer Inter this season!

I mean how stupid are those comments by Cheillini? I’m sure if you take any teams best players of the squad they would struggle, its not that hard to see. I’m sure you can say the same about Juve if they didn’t have Del P and Chiellini himself, or Del p and Amauri. Also, Balotelli wants out now. No surprise there. I hope we can work something out for the best.

I try not to pay too much attention to goal.com – especially their crap translations.
I am looking forward to getting Maxwell and Jimenez back. Vieira…. I bet he only plays 2 more games before Christmas. Too bad. He was really looking up. Looks like Deki will have to be our man in the midfield.

Balotelli needs to take a page out of Giovinco’s book. Sit there, shut up and do your best with 150% effort when you are called upon. Support the team through good times and bad. After Juve beat Real Madrid I don’t think there was anyone happier than Giovinco.
The Kid is 18, he’s not going to the national team yet and he still has a lot to learn. The best thing for him to do is stay and learn from Mourinho. He’s too big headed already. His ego is blinding him.

Sigh…
The point was the media is causing drama, not Chiellini. His comment was observational and was typically blown out of proportions and selectively translated by the English media.

Paolo, the difference is Giovinco was born in Turin and raised a Juventino, he’s been with the youth team for 13 years now. Balotelli has been at Inter for only what, 2 years now or so?

Morning everybody
Everybody saw this coming balotelli was never gonna accept the bench that kid’s ego is bigger than O J simpson’s head anyways if he really wants out that bad then he should be let go ofas for chiellini ….his comment does not even deserve to be commented on

I understand both your points Alessio.
The Chiellini thing was probably taken out of context. Whether it be him or the media making those claims where does everyone get this “Inter is Struggling” perception. Because they aren’t scoring 7 goals per game? To be honest a lot of people have this idea that Inter are nothing without Ibra and Maicon. I had a debate a few days ago with someone who tried to tell me that Ibra was 75% of Inter.
The Balotelli/Giovinco thing. Balotelli has been with the club and in Italy long enough to know how things work. I know he is eager but he has a lot to learn. Giovinco is the “Next” one, I believe, and he doesn’t have the me me me attitude. Balotelli needs to relax. If things go well he has 15 years showcase his talent. He’s got tons of talent but he is rough around the edges.
He chose to want to play for the Azzurri. He has to understand he should know what is involved.

Well, he may ask for a transfer but I dont see Inter selling his contract any time soon. Maybe a loan deal to an EPL team or something.
Needless to say, it will likely not be Chelsea.
I hope he gets some play time against Genoa, though. I think Urus was under the impression he would start instead of Ibra. Genoa has a terrible record away from home (lost all games, only scored one goal) so it may be a good time to try him out for a while.

I also don’t see them selling him. I would be surprised if they loan him out. That would be letting him have his way which will make him spoiled as well as big headed. The best lessons to learn are the hard ones. He needs to mature. He has to work hard to get his chances.

hmmm… is this possible?
Balotelli —> Arsenal
Fabregas —> Inter????
I know… we are months away from the window. The problem… Cesc would not be able to play Champions League games for Inter. I doubt Inter would be interested in this for the winter window.
Just a very far fetched thought, that could be good for both sides… if indeed we grant Balotelli his wish.

Nice interview with Cruz. He wants to finish his career at Inter – I hope Moretti lets him.

I think you get to resubmit your squad after the transfer season.

yeah but fabregas has already played for arsenal this year so he is cup-tied for this cl season. much like ronaldo a couple of years ago for milan.

Fabregas to inter ? That’d be sweeeeeeet
Have any of you seen coutinho play ? The kid we bought from and loan back to vasco de gama or whatever that team’s called word is he is the next kaka

Look, the only way Moratti is going to let Mario go is on loan a la Aquafresca.
Balotelli may go to a smaller club for regular football but I don’t think that Inter would be so stupid as to let a potential star get away permanently just for a Fabergas to help them win now.
I mean, it not like they need help right this minute. Is there another team that has the amount of talent that we do? I would say not.
Inter can afford to hang on and develop him, I think he has multiple years on his contract. If he seriously wants to leave, A.) I don’t think that another team will pony up in this financial climate and B.) we will make anyone who wants him pay through their liver.
