Anorthosis is even on points with Inter in Group B, having beaten Panathinaikos (3-1) and drawn Werder Bremen (0-0). In fact, our standings are exactly the same across the board. Anorthosis are at the top of the Cypriot League and last year’s champions. They have won every single one of their CL qualifying rounds and are undefeated this year. Clearly, Anorthosis Famagusta are not the minnows we had hoped.
Inter counter this with being at the top of their form. Morinho has said that the team is finally becoming the one he imagined. Zlatan is undoubtedly completely recovered from his injury woes and in the scoring mood. The boys are confident and want to win. Still, according to Mourniho, all this confidence could come around and bite us in the collective ass:
This match has several hidden dangers. You never know how a side will react after playing a wonderful game like we did in Rome. We would not be the first team to slip up after a fantastic display, so we’ll have to do everything we can to avoid this.
This is a critical game in our march towards Roma and the Champions League final in May. Mou is counting on a win from both this game and the return match. Anything less would “complicate” things.
True, right now we are the favorites to win, but Anorthosis are the loveable underdogs that everyone roots for. I have no problem with them continuing out of groups, just so long as we finish at the top. So lets take a little look at…
THEM
As I said, coach Temuri Ketsbaia brings a very successful team to Milan. He has built an international squad that includes such players as Greek defender Traianos Dellas, French midfielder Cedric Bardon, and Brazilian forward Savio. After looking at their lineup in the Panathinaikos game and scanning through their web page, I have decided that I have no idea what their formation will be. Goal.com is predicting 4-5-1:
Begaj;
Katsavakis, Dellas, Leiwakabessy, Constantinou;
Dobrasinovic, Laban, Bardon, Savio, Nikolaou;
Sosin.
On the injury front, Portuguese midfielder Paolo Costa is out so Bardon will likely take his place, and Captain Nikos Nikolaou is a maybe to start. In their last Champions League game, they beat Panathinaikos 3-1, but a closer look at the circumstances shows that one of the Anorthosis goals was a Panathinaikos own goal. The other two were clear defensive errors from Pana. From the highlights I have watched of their CL games, it looks like Anorthosis play a defensive game and will likely stack the back and hope to catch us on the break.
US
Well, we are on track and ready to win. Toldo will start in goal, and hopefully Adriano was not late for training today and can actually play. At least he is on the squad Mou has called up:
Goalkeepers: Toldo, Julio Cesar, Orlandoni.
Defenders: Cordoba, Maicon, Burdisso, Materazzi, Chivu, Santon.
Midfielders: Zanetti, Stankovic, Cambiasso, Muntari, Mancini, Bolzoni, Quaresma.
Strikers: Ibrahimovic, Cruz, Adriano, Balotelli.
If I were to choose the lineup it may go a bit like this:
Toldo
Maicon Burdisso Materazzi Chivu
Stankovic* Cambiasso Muntari
Adriano Ibra Mancini
*Zanetti needs a break
As long as we treat this game like it is Roma at home – that is, dont underestimate the opposition and keep our wits about us – we have a shot of going to the top of the group. We have a strong squad, and, as players return from injury, finally a little wiggle room at the back (knock on wood, light candle, thow salt). I think this game will be difficult, largely because we will have to break through a 9-man defensive wall without over exposing ourselves (and not in the dirty way). Anorthosis are coming to Milan expecting to loose but hoping for a draw, which means to me that they will play like they have nothing to loose. I am going to be conservative here and predict a 2-1. We will beat them, but they will make us sweat for those 3 points.
Ragazzi, vi vedo domani qui per la partita.
FORZA INTER
Toldo waits…

i know the trivela is his trademark move, but did he always only use the outside of his foot for everything including first touch?

You’re not supposed to root for anyone but Inter!! I only want Inter to win. If they can’t I, personally, would not want another Italian team to win. Well, I could deal with Fiorentina winning. Juve or Roma winning would just be disasterous imo.
ITS DONE 3 POINTS!! We knew it wasn’t going to be easy but mission accomplished!!

haha he has to learn to use the whole foot.

Paolo I guess you right , I just used to do that because I didn’t want the semis to have 3 teams from the bpl trust me roma fans’s ignorance and delusion is nothing compared to those of BPL fans I wonder sometimes if those dudes are from this planet they take dumb to a whole nother level
Anyways FORZA GRANDE INTER im glad we took full points from this one we have got to finish top of the group no matter what

Johonna Is there something going on between jose and balotelli the kid has not played for 3 straight games now I think

Good result for the other game. One of two that I wanted. A Panathinikos win would have done just as well. Glad Werder did not win.
This way, if catastrophe happens next round we don’t lose much ground.
Nov 4th in Cypress is going to be tough, we need to grind a result!

Well, I remember reading somewhere (la gazzetta maybe) after his game in Israel that Mou said he had spoken to Balotelli and said that yes, he was good at shooting but that he didn’t play very well for the rest of the game.
I think Mou would say that he is just playing his best players. I also think he will start in Coppa games.

even tho we won today im not happy about the fact that inter misses so chances im not talking about this game only bar the roma game we always dominate possession , have plenty of shot on goal but fail to convert most of them we sort of playing like the barcelona of last year and being like barcelona is NEVER a good thing we cannot afford to do that against top class teams or we’ll pay for it
And thanx for the info johonna , with a ego as big as balotelli’s I see him leaving next year if he doesn’t get much playing time this year

He is under contract until 2012 (I think) so he goes nowhere unless he is released.

And hope that Ursus doesnt see the Barca crack – I believe he likes them rather a lot.

Lol I take that back then

I think Mourinho doesn’t think Balotelli tracks back and plays as “intelligently,” perhaps too selfish. Adriano and Ibra are doing way more than attack, not like they used to. He’s got the team well-disciplined.

Now if only we could train Quaresma to only use his stupid trick shot sometimes… Maybe then he would actually SCORE!

Lol yea that trick is getting old but that is not what bothers me in his game the fact that he does not play for the team sometimes well maybe most of the time does out of everybody in the squad including zlatan , Quaresma has the biggest potential he just needs to be more of a team player and as johanna said cut down on that damn trivela

ARGH!!!! NONONONONONONO!!!!
This just in from Inter’s web page… Mou says”
“We’re worried about Cambiasso, but hopefully it’s just a slight injury. He’s an expert player and he stopped before making things worse. Our problems are in midfield where we’re without Vieira and Zanetti who is playing at full-back, but this is our life and we have to continue.”Posted from

And it looks like Mou is on the case re Quarsma and his love of the trivela:
“Quaresma? He likes kicking the ball with the outside of his foot, but if you ask me about him in a few months’ time we’ll be talking about a different Quaresma.”

From what I read via the Gazzetta, it was a pretty uninspiring game. Mancini and Quaresma are really failing to hold up their spot…is Figo injured again?

Since Quaresma hasn’t produce anything at all and Mancini has been off and on, why not try Balo at that position? Or at least sub him on at half. I’m sure Mourinho knows what hes doing, but it just sucks watching these games and seeing nothing from that side of the pitch.

Im sorry S, but that picture is really old hat around here. Im afraid you are going to have to come up with something more inspired to insult us.

Clean Sheet! Clean Sheet! Clean Sheet! Clean Sheet!
That’s what I was chanting as I was at work. I was getting some weird looks, but the upside of acting like a lunatic is that no one bugs you if you aren’t actually hurting people…
Okay, so I just paid for the privilege of watching us soar to the top of our group.
I really didn’t see anything to bitch about, except the freaking hand ball in the AREA ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME… sorry but it’s @2am right now and if I actually yelled that like I wanted to Ms. MAD would… well she just would, okay?
I thought every one played well, Mancini and “Corner kick” Quaresma (we almost always get one of those when he has the ball.. not a bad thing) supported the attack and the upper flank well. Chivu played like it was 3 years ago… what a madman. Muntari, what else can I say, he could have scored and he dispossessed everyone around him. Zanetti had a couple of those trademark runs. Cambiasso played extraordinarily well before he hurt himself… again.
I thought Maicon looked a little off and Ibra missed a sitter.
But we played lockdown. We were calm and we dominated. Toldo didn’t have much to do, but when he was called to action, he came through.
3 points and the group is ours. Top of the league, top of the group… that sounds kinda familiar, didn’t someone say something like this just recently…
Very nice!

Yes, Alessio, Figo has a broken toe. Now he is saying he might not retire this year either. Poor guy. He just wants one more season but I am not sure he has it in him.
MAD, yep, we did it. Clear at the top but then it will be off to Famagusta to play them again. I hope we can pull a couple rabbits out of our hat for that trip. And I hope by then Mourinho has beaten this whole trivela thing out of Quaresma once and for all. Tricks are all fine and good, but only when you are scoring consistently. He puts one in the back of the net and then we will talk!

The return is going to be in Nicosia. The stadium in Larnaca is too small, and Famagusta is in occupied territory.
Quaresma has used the trivela to this annoying extent throughout his career to date; it’s one of the things that drives people around the bend. If anyone can get him to be a bit more judicious, it’s the combination of Mourinho and Ibrahimovic.
I expect Balotelli to play against Genoa, and to have something to prove.
