ManU – Inter: YIKES

By: Johonna | March 10th, 2009

Mourinho is in the house
What: Manchester United v Internazionale, Champions League Knockout Round, second leg
Where: Old Trafford – Manchester – England
When: 11 March 2009 8:45pm local time, 12:45pm Pacific, 3:45pm eastern
How to Watch: Live on ESPN and ESPN HD, ppv on UEFA.com, or find a stream (MyP2P, Justin.tv, Rojadirecta, Ustream, and ATDHE.net).

Ok Ragazzi, I am really, terribly sorry, but I have to get on an airplane soon to the land of old folks and no internet (re: San Diego) so I only have time for a very brief “preview.”

Mourinho has called up 22 players:

Goalkeepers: Toldo, Julio Cesar, Orlandoni.
Defenders: Cordoba, Maxwell, Maicon, Rivas, Samuel, Santon.
Midfielders: Zanetti, Stankovic, Figo, Jimenez, Vieira, Cambiasso, Muntari, Mancini, Bolzoni.
Strikers: Ibrahimovic, Cruz, Adriano, Balotelli.

We can thank our lucky stars that Samuel is up and ready to go.

We all know that this is going to tough, much tougher than the home game. Personally, I think it will take a small miracle for us to go through – but that is the beauty of football. Sometimes those miracles happen. (My own personal miracle will be convincing the grumpy grumpy grandparents that they want to watch the match instead of yet another Bonanza rerun.)

I will leave it to you all to discuss possible formation and whatnot – I have to pack. You might take a peek at the Manchester United board.

Everyone, keep a positive attitude – nothing but good energy.
It will be what it will be – no stress, just serene calm and certainty.

    What a free kick

Not the most entertaining game but 3 points is 3 points. Hopefully Chivu is ok. I thought he was great in the first half

    JC is the man

“Shockingly MAD, I’m not terribly concerned about the other side of the scale”

See, just like I said. It’s spite. The fact is that we got the shaft today from the ref, just as we have from time to time. No shocker… it’s usually a little bit of a shocker when it happens and we are not playing Juventus or Milan, but you get the idea.

The Roma game shouldn’t have ended up as a draw, but Samp got the shaft today too. The only thing you have to cling to today is that the booking Santon… who played a hell of a game today as he did on wednesday… wasn’t harsh enough for you.

Like I said, spite. And you aren’t alone, johanN is making the rounds today doing the same thing. It’s what we expect of you guys.

Spite? No, not really. Just interested in my team’s success, just as you are. Couldn’t really give a damn about most other teams. Love to see Rioma miss out on the CL, but I’m not too concerned about it.

I didn’t say Inter didn’t deserve to win the game, I didn’t watch it and have no opinion on it. But you’ve been drinkin too much of the Mou kool-aid. (everyone is against us even the referees even though we get tons of favorable decisions from them) Impossible to find a single person who thinks that Santon foul shouldn’t be a red.

“Impossible to find a single person who thinks that Santon foul shouldn’t be a red.”

Not too impossible, I didn’t think it was that bad.

    “Spite? No, not really.”

I think so. I can’t understand why else you come here after/before/during every game. This isn’t the Juve board.

“But you’ve been drinkin too much of the Mou kool-aid. ”

Hate kool aid. I prefer iced tea. Does Mo make a brew?

“everyone is against us even the referees even though we get tons of favorable decisions from them”

Oh, tons! Especially when we play those other certain teams in black/red and white…

Loved Ibra’s free kick goal. But it was his second try at it in a minute. The first one was stung well too.

This past week we had yahoos from the Roma boards come here and call our team full of “mercenaries”. They were the ones that Mourinho called happy to see us lose. Well, at least we didn’t lose 7-1…

Well, the Chief of the Mercenaries, Javier Zanetti just passed another apparent “mercenary” called Giacinto “European Cup Winner/Captain of the National Team for a decade/mercenary” Facchetti in appearances for Inter to the tune of 634 matches. That’s about 15 years of service for this “mercenary”.

In 125 matches, I can’t bear the thought of Javier no longer being with us, he equals Lo Zio, Beppe “World Cup Winner/National Team member for a decade/mercenary” Bergomi.

It should also be of note that Beppe “been with the team a quarter century as player and coach/mercenary” Baresi was on hand to hug Zanetti and congratulate him as came off the pitch.

Hey ho, all. I have returned and will get something up on the Fiorentina game tomorrow. I am sorry I missed all the CL action – or, given the outcome, perhaps I am not.

At least we won this game. I was worried that we would have another collapse this year after our exit from Europe. Boy what a help it is when your coach doesn’t resign. We all knew it was a longshot anyway. We really only have 1 squad and it is getting very tired. I just dont see how the same 15 or so players could have taken us to a CL final and the scudetto. Especially as we are once again having huge injury problems in defense.

The truth is, we desperately need more depth before we can actually mount a real European campaign.

I don´t know why you pay so much attention to the Riomanistas and us Juventini, MAD. Just do what I do whenever you´re on the Juve page, ignore. As long as Inter is in 1st, people will be bitching about it. I understand an 18-year Scudetto drought might have made you forget.

I just read an article on Setanta where Maxwell and Ibra’s agent, Mino Raiola, had this to say:

Raiola told Sky Italia: “I think that Maxwell’s Inter adventure is over.

“He is the best left back in Europe and is in-demand.

    “Could he move to Milan?

“I don’t reject this option, but I think that moving abroad would be easier.”

Raiola handles Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s affairs, and he said about the Sweden international: “He remains under contract for three and a half years with Inter.

“The club will have the last word regarding his future and at the moment we can’t do anything.”

    “We cant do anything”?

Here’s what he can do: shut the fuck up and be glad we’re paying his client 9 mil a year

And if Max is the best LB in Europe, where does that leave Santon? Better than the best? Bestest?

I know agents are always looking for more money but this guy is ridiculous

i agree. agents have to say that. but i do think that his “inter adventure” is over. no reason to pay a guy that much to sit on the bench. i think he makes a decent amount at least. he can play in mid but we have too many defensive minded mids already. i do like him but i dont really see room for him. hopefully we can make a decent return by selling him.

This is the same guy who said Mou was angling for a move to Madrid.

“we desperately need more depth before we can actually mount a real European campaign”

Did you read Mou’s comments after the United game? That United have a better team though some don’t want to admit it (the fans? the press? Moratti?) that they are stronger faster and taller, have the world’s best bench and the money to overhaul the squad every year. That Inter don’t have the squad to win the CL or money to buy star players so will have to sell and rely on emerging youth.

Sounded more like a cry for help!

Are Inter really that far off? How much will selling the has beens and never weres raise? And will stars want to come anyway?

Is the CL just a pipe dream.
