Maradona Goes to Milan to Fondle Inter Squad

By: Johonna | January 15th, 2009

Or at least that is what it looks like in the pictures.

A little hug with Walter Samuel. Does this mean he will get that elusive call-up? And just what is going on under that towel?
Samuel - dont drop that towel

-
-
-
Some Nico-lovin’. “This one is all mine,” says Maradona.
Maradona and Burdisso sittin\' in a tree
-
-
-
“No no,” Maradona says, “I cannot hug this one, he is not Argentinian.”
Get off our swede!
-
-
-
The only one not having fun was Crespo. I guess Maradona was not as happy as Mou was with his Coppa performance.
No National team for you!

Maradona even had kind words for Moratti, saying:

“First of all I thank Massimo Moratti, who is without doubt my president in Italy. He’s an exquisite man and he has made Inter great.”

Then, when asked if he would have played at Inter under Moratti, he said:

“Yes, without doubt. With all the respect I have for the Napoli fans, who will always be in my heart, I believe that with Moratti as president I would have been an Inter player.”

But it is not all about Argentinians…

TRANSFER RUMORS c’mon, you know you love them – the sillier the better!

Tottenham wants Adriano, fat or otherwise, and are willing to pay 15 million Euros for him. If that doesn’t work, they will throw in some dude named Jermaine Jenas (anyone?) as part of the package. Adriano’s agent says the whole thing is nonsense and Adri is going nowhere.

In other transfer related news, Mourinho is now said to be after Arshavin, much to Arsenal’s dismay. Of course, Mou may just be saying that to annoy Wenger. This whole rumor extra smells like goofiness to me.

And Espanyol are rumored to be in talks over a loan deal for Balotelli. Of course, Moratti just said he was staying, so who knows.

And some ACTUAL TRANSFER NEWS

Defender Ivan Fatic has joined Salernitana from Vicenza, where he was on loan. Fatic came through the Inter academy and played a couple games with the first squad last season (both times we played Reggina in the Coppa). He is now co-owned by Inter and Chievo Verona.

Inter goes to… CANADA?

For all you Inter fans in the Great White North, apparently there are plans afoot to bring Inter to Edmonton to play a team from South America. The game will be the centerpiece of the 100th anniversary of the Alberta Soccer Association (or ASA). Fred Kern, ASA president said:

“It’s extremely exciting to do something of this nature. It’s not 100-per-cent sure but we expect a final signature in the next couple of days.”

The Edmonton people want this to replace the Franz Beckenbauer Cup/Pirelli Trophy game, which is played in August in Milan. The article also says that “Inter is already committed to come to North America to play in three cities in July.” So, look for them in a city near you!

FORZA INTER

Hugs even for Mourinho.
Hugs all Around

    More transfer type news:

Man City want more than Kaka, word is they also want Marco Materazzi. He did some time in England and hated it. He wouldn’t leave (would he?).

Same article said Inter has offered 22 million euro for Drogba. I think I would rather have Tevez. Besides, I think he could be had for closer to 15 million.

    Well, here, see for yourselves:

If City want throw ridiculous $$$ our way they can have Marco.

I want nothing to do with Drogba. He’s looked terrible recently. Tevez would be a much better option. With Maradona as our one man recruiting machine we may just land Tevez or Aguero. Id prefer Tevez due to his workrate. He’d probably be cheaper than Kun too.

I agree Johanna, Feb cant come soon enough. Even though Im trying not to get my hopes up for the CL, I can’t help it. I somehow convince myself every year that we might finally win it. But we all know how the story ends . . .

I don’t see the point in getting Tevez, Drogba, Kun or anyone to that effect right now. They are all cup tied and cannot help our situation for the upcoming CL tie with United. Maybe in the summer, I would consider Tevez or Kun. I don’t want Drogba, I think it would be a huge mistake and a huge waste.

I will keep saying it!! The Milito’s (I know we tried), the Acquafresca’s, the Rosina’s, the many Napolitani we could make attempts for… Those are what would make sense. That and a # 10.

I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE CASSANO. I know he is a head case but he is a head case with extreme talent, which is 100 times better than any of the head cases we are trying to make work right now. His vision and his ability to create space and to send in a vertical, cutting ball is amazing. Exactly a type of player this club needs.

I am not a fan of these any of these rumors. I cannot wait for January to be done either. I have feeling nothing will happpen aside from us moving some players out.

You know it wasn’t too long ago, a couple of months I think, that the Milan contingent were over here extolling the loyalty and virtue of their team and calling our team a bunch of mercenaries.

    You gotta love irony.

Seems that they like to be paid over there as well. I hope that their precious, delicate world view hasn’t been shattered by the rock of reality.

No, I take that back. I hope it has.

I am going to keep a running list of players that I think that we should/could bring in to really help our group:

    Ledesma
    Rosina
    Maggio
    Santacroce

I think that with these recruits we would be strong today and for the next 5 years. And we can afford every one. None of them is too exorbitantly priced. And I think that at least half of them aren’t cup tied.

at this point i think we have stronger than Ledesma within our squad. same goes for Maggio. Rosina is a player i would love to pick up. chances of that happening are slim to none though.

Everyone already knows whose on my wish list for inter already so it doesnt make sense to reiterate it.

I wanted Maggio in the off season before he moved to Napoli. He even expressed his desire to play for Inter because his family are Interista!

Kirby, Maggio is great and highly underrated. He is versatile and can play in the midfield and defense. He has a great work rate and could do well to replace Muntari and/or Maicon and/or Zanetti. He also has the skills required to step up. He would be a huge asset work very well into a rotation with Inter.

I am not sure why he is not called up to the national team. He only has one appearance.

Obviously, no deal for any cup tied player should be done until the summer. I think Tevez is the most likely option given his contract situation. Mou might insist on Drogba though.

I like all the players you guys mentioned and would love to have them. However, Maggio and Santacroce wouldnt be first choice for us right now. They are both versatile nad quality players but at this point they need consistent first team football. We should sign Rosina and recall Bobby NOW.

I like Ledesma but doesnt he play in Cambiasso’s position?

Dave, Cambiasso can’t/shouldn’t play every game. It would be nice to have competent cover for that position and not have to resort to Chivu.

Thank goodness, Marco’s agent is denying any contact with Man City.

The case being made for Ledesma is exactly my case for Maggio as well. Unless injured or out for disciplinary reasons, Maicon, Zanetti and Muntari have not missed a minute of action. Maggio is the perfect reinforcement to come on as a sub or start (regularly/often) to give either one of those much needed rest.

If one of those 3 cannot go for some reason I start to panic. Yes we have a ton of players to fill in but cannot come close to performing as well as they did. Maggio, in my opinion, can.

Everytime I see Cambiasso, Zanetti, Maicon, Muntari (to a point) pick up a knock and go down or limp around, I more or less crap my pants. Any combination of those players being out for a long time and we’ll see and feel the effects.

Good point Johanna. If Ledesma would accept a second choice role Im all for it. I thought Chivu did well in midfield though. Especially considering he just came back from injury.

Poor Marco. First his face gets messed up, then he’s linked with Man City, now he’s picked up a knock in training. I guess its not that bad being linked with the richest club in the world though.

Paolo, I know what you mean. Every time one of those guys picks up a knock I get extremely nervous. Our options for cover are Viera, Dacourt, Figo, and Jimenez. Needless to say, those first choice guys CAN NOT get injured. We’re basically relying on Zanetti and Chivu for cover in multiple positions.

If Ledesma and Maggio want to come in I’d welcome them with open arms. I doubt they will though.

Well, my thought was that a lot of those guys could close out or give a game of much needed rest for our current starters and then gradually move into the role. Like the rest of you guys, I get nervous when Cambi, Maicon, Muntari or Dejan has a knock or a day of rest.

Plus like I said, I think that all those guys would have an opportunity to play, although I know that there are rules regarding bringing in new players to the Champions League mid tournament and all.

But it looks like you guys are right there with me.
