Next Up, Udinese
By: Johonna | October 2nd, 2009
And here we are, back home and raring to go. Sure, we had a bit of a hiccup in Russia, but we are back on home ground and looking to make up some points. That said, we are still in the midst of a mini injury crisis, and Udinese is not a pushover. We come to the game in third place, while they are just 2 points behind us at fifth. They are an organized team with some real talent; luckily, so are we. This will be a great game and the perfect opportunity for Inter to leap to the top of the table (a girl can dream, cant she).
What: Inter v Udinese
Where: San Siro, Milan
When: Saturday, October 3, 8:45pm local time (11:45am pacific, 2:45 eastern)
How to Watch: This time, we’re live, baby! Yep, FSC is showing the match live on Saturday. Still, if want, here are some links for streams: MyP2P, Justin.tv, Rojadirecta, Ustream, and ATDHE.net.
Udinese actually has a pretty good record against Inter, even when playing at the San Siro. Of the 37 times that Inter and Udinese have met in the Serie A in Milan, Inter has only won 21 games while they have held us to a draw 10 times (for those of you doing the math, the last 6 we lost). In fact, for the last few years Inter and Udinese have been pretty evenly matched. Last year, we both won at home 1-0; the previous two seasons, we drew all four games (either 0-0 or 1-1). Basically, if history has any bearing on tomorrow, the game will be tight.
Last year’s 1-0 win came in injury time with one of Julio Cruz’s patented last-minute game-winning goals (I sure miss him):
THEM
Well, for a few months last year there was an active Udinese blog. But I think the rigors of graduate school finally killed it off. Anyway, that means I will have to cobble something together.
Marino has called up 22 players:
PORTIERI: Belardi, Cobrea, Handanovic
DIFENSORI: Basta, Coda, Cuadrado, Domizzi, Felipe, Lukovic, Pasquale, Zapata
CENTROCAMPISTI: D’Agostino, Kitoko, Inler, Lodi, Sammarco, Zimling.
ATTACCANTI: Corradi, Di Natale, Floro Flores, Pepe, Sanchez.
After a bit of a slow start, Udinese have really come out swinging. They have won their last two games (against Milan and Genoa), and would have beaten Napoli but for a faulty line ref. In any event, they seem to have found their stride… plus, they had a whole week off (what a luxury). The only hitch in their record is that they have only picked up 1 point away from home (thanks partly to that line ref). Of course, they have only played two away games so I think it is a little early to start looking for patterns. One thing is for sure, they will come to Milan looking to win.

Toto Di Natale could put a serious crimp in our style.
Marino has promised an open, attacking game against Inter, saying:
“The two performances we put in against Inter last year give us confidence and also for this reason I say that if we think about defending for 90 minutes we’ll almost certainly concede a goal. Moreover, if we never attack, we’ll allow them to become more lucid and reactive in our half of the pitch. Sure, the moves will have to be more fluid and quicker, but we have already limited very offensive teams like Milan and Genoa, and that’s a good sign.”
Udinese have scored 10 goals in 6 games, almost all of them from Mr. Christmas himself, Antonio Di Natale. They tend to score throughout the game, but their most prolific period is the last 15 minutes. In terms of conceding, they are most vulnerable in the first 15 minutes of a game or the last 15 of the first half. I guess that means they take a little time to get into the game, but once they do, look out!

Sneijder is back. Yipee
US
Mourinho has called up 20 players:
Goalkeepers: Toldo, Julio Cesar, Orlandoni.
Defenders: Cordoba, Zanetti, Lucio, Samuel, Chivu, Santon.
Midfielders: Stankovic, Sneijder, Muntari, Krhin, Cambiasso, Obi, Mancini.
Strikers: Eto’o, Suazo, Milito, Balotelli.
As we can see, both Milito and Sneijder have recovered enough that they are back on the call up list, although Milito will have to pass a fitness test tomorrow before he takes the field. Interestingly, Mourinho said today that if Milito cannot play against Udinese then he “cannot go to play on his National team and will remain here with us to recuperate.” (as an aside, Milito is our only Argie Maradona has called up)
Maicon is suspended due to yellow card accumulation. Mourinho has said that either Zanetti or Santon will fill in (duh).
That leaves us with:
Julio Cesar
Santon Lucio Samuel Chivu
Zanetti Cambiasso Stankovic/Muntari
Sneijder
Milito/Balotelli Eto’o
I can live with that.
In today’s press conference, Mourinho was quick to point out that Thiago Motta and Sneijder were brought in this season not because the club likes to spend money, but because they were necessary for the team (go figure). Further, the times we have played well, both or either have been on the pitch. Therefore, it is only natural that the squad will not play as well without them as it does with them. I have to agree, and it makes me feel more confident to see Sneijder and Milito on the call-up list.

Vieira, is that a threat or a promise?
In other news, some bench-warmers are beginning to get a little antsy. With the World Cup coming up, players are beginning to fret over their places on their national teams. As such, they want more pitch time. Both Vieira and Suazo are saying they will be entertaining offers this winter.
In the case of Suazo, it is difficult to miss what you dont know. It has been so long since he has played for us that I cannot really say whether I want him to go or stay. If he does go, though, most certainly we will need another striker. Vieira, on the other hand, is being a whiny little child. In my opinion he has seen far too much of the pitch (239 minutes by Mou’s reckoning) and if he wants to go, I will personally fly to Milan and hold the door for him (to keep it from hitting him in the ass, of course).
Ok. So where are we. As always, our next game is a “must win.” Udinese is an organized team that, for one reason or another, Inter has had a tough time beating these last few years. I think it will be tough, but I also think we will be up for it. We have had an extra day off, and I think the boys are ready to give their all.
FORZA INTER
And since we all need a little fun after that Kazan game, I give you: Inter Manlove Flash Puzzle! Enjoy.

It’s pretty sad for fans to jeer their own players off the pitch.

Mickey, Udinese did not play better than us.
As for Muntari, I really wish the fans wouldn’t go after him like that. I loved how the team supported him though.
What a game…I’m so glad we have what it takes to win these. 6-7 years ago, there was no way we would have fought till the end like this. Defense does need to do better though and I hope that Milito is okay.

Eto’o assisted on the two goals today and we are still moaning on how much we miss Ibra ?! The guy has moved on from us. We’d do well to reciprocate !

To The Troll who came on the Juve offside saying that we don’t beat teams like Bologna and that is why we will not win, you once again showed your knowledge of soccer/level of intelligence:
Bologna last season: played in Serie A.
Bari last season: played in Serie B.
Try again.Posted from

The funny thing about that goal was it started from a botched Udinese throw in from an Inter foul throw :p

Muntari was playing horribly, but I would have never booed him off the field. It was awful to watch how upset he was when he left the field. He was nearly in tears. But when the mob mentality picks up, its difficult to control. Hopefully, he takes it in the right sense like Deki did in the past, and goes on to improve.
Also, Milito’s injury may be a blessing in disguise. I’ve never hidden the fact that I’ve felt Eto’o and Balotelli would be our strongest strike partnership. Between the two of them, we have a complete strike force. If Balotelli has learned anything from his Kazan screwjob, and starts working a little harder overall, Milito may find it hard to get back into the starting 11.

Vinod, I actually think it’s the opposite. Eto’o and Milito are beginning to understand each other’s movements and you can see genuine mutual respect between the both of them. Mario almost always comes in to do his ‘thing’. With Mileto’o, some semblance of order and combination is beginning to emerge and I just hope they both get lots of games together along with Sneijder and Motta soonest so the team can begin to get better at what Mourinho calls automatism.
————————–
I still think we need a hard-working, extra- gas-in-the- tank midfielder though. Stankovic at some point in today’s game, was so tired, he could no longer run. He was supposed to be chasing some guy and it appeared as if he was running in slow motion.Posted from

kabir, the way you feel about Muntari is the same i feel about Vieira… i wish the fans wouldn’t go after him like that… they like to whine about his age, but c’mon 33 years is not that much.
If it were for me i would make a “senior” team making 7 transfers (buy) of majorly “veteran” players (30+ years) like Vieira and align’em like this:
5-3-2 (libero) formation:
Toldo(37y)
Zanetti(36y) Materazzi(36y) Metzelder(28y) Cannavaro(36y) Grosso(31y)
L.Diarra(24y) Fabregas(22y) Muntari(25y)
L.Toni(32y) Robinho(25y)Bench:
J.Cesar(30y)
Maicon(28y) Chivu(28y)
Quaresma(26y) Sneijder(25y)
Milito(30y) Eto’o(28y)Using the players in the bench it could easily be turned into a 4-1-2-1-2 getting Metzelder out and Sneijder/Quaresma in (depending if we want to attack the sides -Quaresma- or the center -Sneijder-), a 4-3-2-1 sending the libero (Metzelder) up to the midfield, or a 3-5-2 sending Sneijder for Fabregas and the wingers forward, a 4-3-3 sending Eto’o and Milito for Metzelder and Toni… the possibilities would be endless…
This way we could also have a “deluxe” 2nd team who can play when the schedule is very thight as it is now, also they could be used to face Copa Italia matches and the team would be almost like the one that is the first today:
4-4-2
J.Cesar(30y)
Maicon(28y) Lucio(31y) Samuel(31y) Chivu(28y)
Quaresma(26y) Cambiasso(29y) Mancini(29y) Sneijder(25y)
Milito(30y) Eto’o(28y)And we could have the youngest players available in case we have a lot of injuries (like now):
Belec(19)
Caldirola(18) Mei(18)
Khrin Obi Santon(18) Coutinho(17)
Arnautovic(20) Balotelli(19) Destro(18)Sorry too much mental diarrhea xD
Anyway congrats to Inter for the win!!!

I think most Inter tifosi understand that Eto’o is not the same kind of player as Ibra, Johonna. And Mourinho does not earn his paycheck, IMO. At 4, 5million maybe, but he makes more than any other Serie A player or coach, I really do not think based on the results he is anywhere worth it.

I think most inter tifosi dont even bother to listen to you alessio because if they did then this is what they would think after 10 seconds of listening to you: “Juve didnt really rob the scudetti, inter didnt deserve those scudetti, we are so much better than inter in every fucking way possible, INSERT YOUR USUAL ANTI INTERISTA HORSE SHIT HERE, etc”

Alessio: I figured as much. Still, whatever you may think, Mourinho has increased Inter’s world-wide presence and pulled in many new sponsors since he has been with the club. For instance, I bet the club go a huge chunk of change for playing the supercup in China. Mancio never would have been able to pull something like that off.
I know you think he is a hack but I like him (I liked him even before he came to Inter) and I am glad he is at Inter. If Moratti wants to pay him enormous chunks of cash, who am I to complain? It is his money after all. Plus, what are the options?

What a game, we really needed to win this and mourinho really needed it too although he does not admit it but he needed a win and he showed it with his celebration
.We played much better then the last two games and I think udinese is as good as sampadoria so it was a hard match.
Mourinho wants our defence line to press higher up the pitch and today they showed it but they have to improve there offside traps. Also our full backs were too defensive. I dont like when zaneti plays right back, I’d rather see him in midfield. Also we need one of our fullbacks to defend and the other one to attack, so i think we needed santon in RB, and I think mourinho was late in bringing him in.I think starting with milito was a mistake. he was a doubt 24h before the match… so I think he should have been a sub.
Also etoo is working hard but I think he is trying too much, he should not hang onto the ball for that long… he needs to shoot more often.
stankovic played really well, at the end of the game he was getting tire, good thing we a week before our next match.
and at last snijder scored, and what a goal. he played really well, but i think he’s still not used to the physical play of the serie a.At last we saw suazo, although he did not have a shoot, but it was good seeing him play.
…also two players got injured, milito and lucio… we have a bad luck with injuries don’t we.Also muntari did not play well today but he was trying so hard and I really hate it when the fans do that to the players… I don’t see the fans of the other big teams boo their players…why do inter fans do that every time? they did it to ibra last year in what was his best year, saving us each time, also instead of encouraging quresma…they boo him, and they did it to milito in what was his 3rd or 4th match with inter. Fans should appreciate their players more.
Can anyone recommend any site which sells bacra vs inter tickets?
also @Johonna, the spam filter is still blocking me.

Kirby, first you have to have a gmail account and be logged in.
Then, you go to google calendars (look for the link in the top left-hand corner.
Once you are in the calender, there is a link in the top right-hand corner that says “new: sports calendars” which should open a new page called “interesting calendars”
Click the “sports” tab, choose soccer, then “Serie A -ITA” (scroll down), then click “subscribe” next to Inter Milan. The calendar will now have all of Inter’s Serie A games in your timezone!
Soooooo Cool.
You can also add the our CL games by choosing “Champions League” instead of Serie A – ITL.
