One Last Derby Post: Mohi’s Amazing Trip
By: Johonna | February 19th, 2009
I found this write-up from an archived blog dated July 5, 2008:
“In Italy… an eBay auction for a San Siro stadium seat next to Inter chairman Massimo Moratti for the forthcoming 2008-09 season Inter-Milan derby ended at Eur 5,050. Proceeds will benefit the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation of Europe and support the publishing and distribution of “Speak Truth to Power”, an educational project about human rights. The winner, a young Kuwaiti fan of the Italian club, has suffered though his favorite club’s years and years as an underdog, and must now be quite happy that Inter has grabbed back its opportunity to shine!”
Well, as it happens, that fan is Inter Offside reader and commenter Mohi! Isn’t it EXCITING? He has graciously sent me some photos of his trip. I have riffled through his recent comments to add a little context to them.
Well I get to Milano on Thursday night. Friday around 3pm I get to the Via Durini offices to meet their International Affairs Manager who tells me whats going to happen the day of the game. He tells me that he’s been working for Inter the past 8 years and he’s never sat in the section I’m going to sit in. I wasnt right next to Moratti but around him, which was alright I guess since it was the best seat in the house. Just being at the Inter offices was exciting enough.
.
.
That night they take me out to drinks, and at the same bar was Angelo Mario Moratti, who’s the VP of Inter. He turns out to be the coolest guy. We talk football for 30 mins. I would have stayed longer but I didnt want to be a too much of a pain, so i thought I’d leave before being asked to

The day of the game I meet my Inter contact again at Gate 7 at 7pm. He takes me to the VIP section under the seats were they serve us wine, feed us. I even get one of those starting line up sheets they give to the press. He takes me to the area closest to the pitch so I can take pictures of the warm ups. You do not realize how star studded the teams are till you see them in person.
We then move to the seats, but my Inter contact can’t even enter the section LOL. Security has to take me to the seat. Then I see Moratti and his son again. The son recognizes me and introduces me to the man! He was as nice as all you read. He gives me the a hug and a kiss. Congratulates me for winning the bid. Gives me a friendly slap after I explained to him that their was only going to be one winner of said bid. I even exchanged numbers with his son.
Moratti
.
Angelo MorattiThen the game starts. Obviously it goes without saying that the atmosphere was outstanding through out the game.
.
And yes he does smoke a lot.
WOW. Mohi, that sounds absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I distinctly remember looking at that auction and doing some quick calculations when it was only at a couple thousand Euro. Luckily, the Significant Other talked me out of it. And before anyone get on Mohi about how much he spent, remember, this was for charity. Mohi was doing a good deed by winning that auction! He is helping to educate people about human rights. I am just glad we won the game.
Thanks again, Mohi!
If anyone else has anything they would like to send me – tips, photos, links, whatever – just drop me a line at johonnars [at] gmail [dot] com.

1 out of 11, MAD!
Awesome!I don’t even really care about how many Italian players a team has, but you really shouldn’t talk about it and try to defend your team, one that starts 10/11 foreigners … Not trolling guys, sorry.
Slay-mode down

Slay-mode down”I really have no idea what you are trying to say. We have more than 11 guys on our team, and we have more than 1 Italian on the team. And I will talk about what I please, thanks.
I was just happy that we have a young guy on the team who is highly rated by the coach of the National team. It means that he might be good. Good players are a desirable thing to have… right? Why is this an issue again?
And let’s be clear. I wasn’t trying to defend anyone/anything because I don’t think there is anything to defend.
What I *was* doing was making fun of the RomaIdiot who referred to an article that said 10 players that we started were foreigners last weekend, then “opined” that we *don’t* have one Italian on the team.
Which I guess means that we are the only Serie A team that plays with 10 down because we are soooooo good.
Well, Chris once declared on the Serie A Offside that we Inter people can’t count.
And we have 7 total Italians on the senior squad. Not 1. Not 0.
And the number that starts changes with circumstance, such as injuries and competition, for example we have more Italians starting during Coppa matches.
Just for your information – since you seem so keen about it – as far as Inter and foreign players go, we happen to be in a weird part of a cycle, where the Italians that are on the team are either on the deep down side of their careers (Matrix, Toldo, Orlandoni) or too inexperienced to be consistent (Santon, Bolzoni, Balotelli, Mei) – or on another team getting experience (Acquafresca, and about 5-10 others that aren’t important yet). It’s no big deal, since Inter was formed in 1908 with the idea that anyone who could play, could play.
Is this okay, or do I need to pay a fine to be happy that we maybe discovered a player with what we hope is a lot of potential?

is that in response to the cheap beer or the drunk girls?
Dont worry, I’ll be on my best behavior. I gotta be up at 7 on Sat for the game right?

Some interesting stuff on the news wire.
Corriere dello Sport is reporting that Inter and Milan will play another derby this summer for Benzema. If I remember correctly this guy has something like a 100 million euro buyout of his contract. Yikes.
Balotelli and Bolzoni are both in the call up for Bologna along with Santon who looks like the new starting left back. Do we see 3 youth players (Mei is in Viareggio, playing Samp in the semi’s)? Or does Mourinho treat this game as a serious tune-up risking fitness for tuesday?
More rumors linking Inter with Aquilani and Milito. At least they got the positions right this time. There was a stupid rumor that we were going to give Balotelli to Palermo for some defender. How many defenders do we need? We need to *get rid* of defenders. Not add to.
Cruz looks on his way out the door. The rumor was that there were negotiations but Mourinho put a stop to them. Maxwell negotiations apparently have taken a left turn since Santon started playing. I bet he resigns (he can play fullback or midfield) but I also bet he takes a pay cut.
Take all rumors with a grain of salt and have fun with them!

I was going to add that at the start of next season (early October I think), Cruz will be 35 years old.
So, I bet I know where he ends up if he leaves Inter…

We all know where that is cough milan cough

Actually, I read a rumor that he and Figo will retire from the squad but move into working for the club. Moratti and Cruz are quite close.

Oh, and I will get a preview up tonight.

While the rise of Santon has been great to watch, am I the only one that misses Maxwell??

By which I mean he’s a damn good player and we should try and keep him. One of our unsung heroes.
Posted from

No! I love Maxi. We need coverage and chivu is only not injured for about 70% of the season (at most).

Max has value since he can play in more than one position, he’s proven that he can play at first team level and he has experience. I should think everyone would want him to stay.
The question is, will he accept a role of squad member? And a reduced contract that reflects his new, lesser position? If he loves the club and wants to stay, perfect!

Maxwell filled in nicely at the start of the season but he rightfully fell out of favor after some shaky defending. I remember a few times when he failed to close down his man at the back post when a cross came in from the opposite side. We cant afford to concede goals like that
Crespo, Jimi, and Obinna have been left out for tomorrow. Since Crespo wont be playing in the CL Im kind of surprised he didnt make the squad. Jimi and Obinna have really fell out of favor. Figo looks like the automatic second choice to Deki.
I think its safe to say those three wont be here next season

Maxwell is not a good enough athlete, nor brave enough to play for a team that considers itself the best in Europe.

But he is pretty and I like him.

He’s Ibra’s best friend on the team so Im sure they’ll keep him :p
