Our Deki did WHAT?

ITALY SOCCER SERIE A
Ok, so everyone who follows Inter Milan knows that Dejan Stankovic is, well… for lack of a better term, a muppet. He is goofy, wears his heart on his sleeve, and has large sticky-outy ears. In other words, he is just about the last person on the team that I would have expected to be accused of “mimicking a rude, unmistakably sexual gesture” but that is just what has happened.

Everyone throw your minds back: remember at the end of the Dynamo game, when someone in the stands threw an empty plastic bottle on the pitch? Well, when Deki threw it off to the sidelines he apparently made this rude gesture to the fans, or at least that is what La Repubblica is saying.

I have seen the video and I just cant help but think that poor Deki was misconstrued. I am sure he wasn’t doing a Maradona – he is just not that sort of boy.

The gesture:

I mean, clearly he is just doing… something else. I dont know what, but I am sure it is not what they say it is. It just cant be… Can it?

Is this really the face of a rude gesturer? (No, it isn’t!)
Par2873403

I think something must have been lost in translation – all those journalists with their minds in the gutter. I am sure there is a perfectly reasonable, not sexual, explanation. I just know it.

FORZA INTER
(Poor Chivu, now someone is going to have to explain to him what it is supposed to mean)

Alessio, Gypsy is a far more loaded word in Italy than any of your examples (and I think you know that).

If an Italian made reference to Ibra being a gypsy, it was almost certainly a racial slur. That’s totally uncool.

Whoops, missed the other comments. I don’t think it’s really as bad as the n-word, but it’s still an extremely loaded comment to make.

And now for something completely different ->

Santon and Balotelli have been called up to the U21 squad for next week’s Euro qualifiers against Hungary and Luxembourg. This seems like a strange turn of events for Davide, isn’t it?

Jo – that does not bode well for his senior team prospects. Though it would be strange if we continued to play intl football while playing very little at home.

To change topics again, is Burdisso going to play on Sunday? As far as I know, most loan agreements prevent players from playing against the team that owns them.

Football Italia is losing credibility in my eyes with their pieces these days. It isn’t even international week, and they’re claiming that Inter want to swap Santon for Mariga of Parma…

Not that Mariga isn’t a fantastic player. But swap Santon? Come on… Thankfully, Mourinho is the most sensible coach around. He’ll only let such a move happen over his dead body.

Kabir, I think that Nico is injured, actually. I have no doubt that if he is fit, he will play.

I dont think those “gentlemen’s agreements” are practiced anymore. I mean, Acquafresca played a number of times against us.

But that is my understanding – I could be wrong.

    Start here: http://www.uefa.com/competitions/ucl/index.html
and click the arrow under “replay” for
FC Dynamo Kyiv 1-2 FC Internazionale Milano

It should open another window with available videos in a panel on the right. Choose what half you want and the site should walk you through setting up an account and paying.

If you buy an annual pass (which I have and love), replays on all the games are included.

Is Muntari really moving to Spurs or is it just baseless rumour again? Anyway, why would Mou want to swap Santon; the money from Muntari’s move if true will offset whatever it takes to bring in Mariga.

I think Mourinho loves Muntari too much to let him go so soon. Besides, after that one game where he was booed, he picked himself back up and is entering a pretty good vein of form. The last 3-4 games I’ve seen him play, he’s doing more than what we expect of him. He’s been picking out good passes, holding possession, helping out the wing back, scored one goal and hit that blockbuster that set up our 2nd goal vs Kiev.

The fans have also stopped picking on him. I don’t see any reason why he should want to leave any more, other than the fact that if all our midfielders are fit, he would probably be relegated to the bench. But the length of the season and the injury proneness of some of our players means that he should get sufficient playing time.

ale, any remark that insults the being of a person is horrible. whether it be ethnic or race oriented. one doesnt have superiority over another. they’re equally as bad.

LOL, of all people in the world, Deki would be the last on my list to be involved in a scandal like that.
It doesn’t seem to me like a rude gesture, but what would I know? :P
Either way, we know how much the media loves to bully our boys, so I will keep my judgement reserved until Deki himself comments, if he does anyways…
Other than that, to me its common agression that happens a lot during games, especially with ones that are as intense as the CL ones!

On the otherhand, the comment that was used to refer to Ibra is definitely offensive. Its true that he broke my heart with his departure ( and yes I am not over it yet!) but racial/ethnical slurs are completely unacceptable!

Chivu: Italy Should Admit Its Racist Problem. The Romanian insists it’s time for a minority to change their attitudes and beliefs and he has told the Italian authorities to deal with the problem rather than hide it…

    Dec 1, 2008 3:48:45 PM

Christian Chivu has told Italian football to wake up and smell the coffee regarding the racism in Serie A rather than brush it under the carpet. The Romanian international insists that racial stereotyping is rife and he has revealed his first hand experience on the issue. Chivu believes that more should be done by the authorities to clamp down on the problem which affects many foreign footballers in Italy.

“We have to stop hiding it, there is plenty of racism in Italy,” Chivu told GQ magazine.
“In every stadium they shout at me ‘you gypsy, go and become a builder’. They say everything but I am not offended at all. The worst was when I was about to join Inter. There was an open training session in front of 25,000 people and I was massacred with insults. I don’t know why. When the opposition boo you, you don’t hear it but when it’s the whole stadium then it’s a different story.”

“I was even shocked that one Romanian guy said he was ashamed of where he was from. I think the only way to combat racism is to admit that it’s there otherwise you will never get rid of it.”
