Parma-Inter: This One is for All the Marbles
By: Johonna | May 17th, 2008
Tomorrow decides the fate of Serie A: who will go down, who will win, and who will go to Europe next season. In all, 6 teams hang in the balance. It will be brutal – tooth and nail time.
As many have pointed out here on this board, the last time the 38th day was this important was in 2002 when it went poorly for the Nerrazzuri. And as much as everyone likes to bring this up – it is in the past and we have moved on.
Looking forward:
Mancini has called up everyone from the first team who is not injured:
Goalkeepers: Toldo, Julio Cesar, Orlandoni.
Defenders: Zanetti, Maxwell, Maicon, Burdisso, Materazzi, Rivas.
Midfielders: Stankovic, Jimenez, Vieira, Solari, Maniche, Pelé, Cesar.
Strikers: Ibrahimovic, Cruz, Crespo, Suazo, Balotelli.
La Gazzetta thinks it will go:
Julio Cesar
Maxwell / Materazzi / Burdisso / Maicon
Stanovic / Viera / Zanetti
Cesar / Balotelli
Cruz
and they are probably right.
In our past 8 meetings with Parma, we have drawn 3 times, won 4 times, and lost once (March 2006).
Parma is a once-great team that has been having some difficulties lately. They are currently in the relation zone with 34 points. They have just fired their coach (our old friend Cuper) and appointed their youth team coach. This may be the boost the team have been looking for or it may throw them into hopeless disarray.
Parma have only won 7 games (drawn 13) this season. Unfortunately for us, all 7 of those wins have been at home.
As much as this is an important game for Inter, this is due-or-die for Parma. We are playing for a trophy – they are playing for their lives. I hate for Inter to be the team that seals Parma’s fate, but it has to happen. That is, unless Catania beat Roma, then we could say it was the Sicilians’ fault. Catainia is without Spinesi tomorrow, and as much as our good friend Zenga says he would like to do us a favor, I am not expecting any. We must assume that Roma will win tomorrow.
On our side, Chivu has not passed a fitness test and, as we all know, Cambiasso is out. Zlatan has been called up, but I don’t know how much actual time he will see.
I think the game will come down to 3 players: Maicon, Vieira, and as much as I hate to say it, Materazzi. If Materazzi can keep his wits about him at the rear, Maicon can make those lovely pushes up the side, and Vieira can do some damage in the midfield.
Earlier in the season Cambiasso was our go-to midfielder, but for some reason, he just has not been there for these last few games. Vieira, on the other hand, has been on fire. Also, I never really noticed what a tall guy he is. So tall, his shorts hardly fit (Yikes).
The closure of the visitor’s section at the Tardini is causing all sorts of problems with the Ultras. Basically, because the visitor’s section is closed, Inter fans are trying to get tickets in the main part of the stadium. Parma fans are unhappy because they think visitors should stick to the visitor’s section. In response, some Inter fans are saying they will not use their tickets and instead stay outside with the rest of the fans. Hopefully there will be no problems tomorrow.
On a side note, Buon Compliano Massimo Moratti ! He turned 63 on May 16th.
To sum up:
Can we take them? Yes!
Will we take them? I really hope so. I have been trying to stay optimistic, but I must also be realistic.
What happens if we loose?
Well, first of all, the Roma fans will in insufferable. Second, Mancini will go for sure. Also, we may see more movement from players that we otherwise would have.
In the end, no matter what happens tomorrow, the sun will rise on Monday – the world will continue – and there will always be next season.
Still – WE WILL CRUSH PARMA! We will crush them and they will go down (so sorry) and Roma will be the ones left crying. I am sure of it.
Ragazzi, dobbiamo avere fede – dobbiamo essere forti – domani lo scudetto!

Stefan, you are clearly also in a lot of pain – and a potty mouth.
I did post something at the Roma offside. I guess that in addition to being a red-necked retarded person, I am also a better person. I did not make your team loose (or my team win, for that matter).
What help would a draw do for Catania? Parma was loosing, they were going down, Catania would stay up.
There is always the Coppa Italia to look forward too.

this is how I know you dont watch soccer

Oh wait what about that team empoli , are they not going to serie b because of one dam point behind catania.

oh my god. stefan sort of upset me with his post. that was by far the bitterest post i have seen from someone in a while. poor kid, the pain must be making him delusional because he’s talking a boat load of smack when he has no leverage. i always knew some(not all) roma fans were nasty. this just confirms my thoughts. dont come here an insult anyone please, especially someone i hold in high regard. inter is now blind to your hater.

Also,
We won and with no questionable ref calls
yes ,but parma were suppose to get 2 penalty shots that was stated in domenica sportiva,if u even know what that is.

Poor kirby,so much to learn about italy and corruption.

Thanks for the support Kirby, but I dont let people like this get to me. He is upset. Clearly he has a lot invested in his fandom. He needs to find someone to blame other than his team. I understand. It is sad, really. I do think it is interesting that he claims that Inter cheat then says that Roma “helped” Catania by allowing them the equalizer. I think “helping” the other team is cheating.
And my cable company dropped RAI so I don’t get to see La Domenica Sportiva any more (I also miss La Grande Giostra Del Gol – the William Tell Overture will never be the same for me).
So, Stephan, you got me on the Empoli thing. I had not thought that part through. But just because La Domenica Sportiva says it, doesn’t make it true.

i’m not poor! i’m in the upper-middle class of society!
are you feeling better now that you have attacked and verbally abuse people? you must be feeling like a big man. i know i would. must feel soooooooo good to be in second place. remember kid, second is the first loser! and guess what?! YOU’RE A LOSER!!!
so much to learn about italy and corruption? i think i know quite a good bit actually. corruption = anyone in politics and italy = the land of the pope. how’s that for an answer?

Dude, relax… Are you even watching Domenica Sportiva? Wasn’t the basic theme of la moviola that in this match everyone got away with everything? There should have also been about 4 red cards. It was a huge, late season match and the whistle got swallowed, it happens all over the world…

listen kirby you kid, no I do not feel like a big man saying shit and the only reason I do it is because you are cocky and make false statements and Roma helped catania by only gaving up at a dream already crushed. You can not say that Inter did not get help this season. You can not say that parma deserved 2 penalty shots. For remember the 1-1 game at the san siro and the red card. Will see u at the coppa final, but remember ,the juve fans said the same thing about there team and you know what happened. But enjoy your scudetto because next year it is no more.
Soros has come,”he will rock you”

opps want to correct something. You can not say that parma did not deserve 2 penalty shots.

the thing is that when we had decisions go against us we didnt cry like babies. we continued playing and got on with life. i am not cocky. i have nothing but respect for roma and its fans. but when people come and run their mouths off like there’s no tomorrow i have to put in my 2 cents. i am a realist. the point is (no matter what you say) that every team in serie a was helped and penalized, even roma. get over the notion that your side is superior to mine. if they were they would have finished first.

and where did they deserve 2 penalties?

Watch Domenica Sportiva and you will see.Im tired and maybe I tell u tomorrow how parma should of got 2 penalty shots.

Goddamnit Stefan, you’re making me do something I really really hate, and that’s backup Inter tifosi.
There’s no doubt Inter got help from the referees but there were about a billion chances for Roma to win, regardless. 3-0 Siena. How about drawing last-placed Livorno, twice? Inter was the strongest team in Italy this year and deserved their 1st place finish. I think had the referees been more fair Juventus would have been in 2nd, but that’s another topic for another day.

Kirbs,
Julio took Lucarelli’s ankles down.
Showed it 4 times upp close in slow mo.
And then Matarazzi knocked Culi over in the box in front of Rocchi.
Not to mention the scissor kick on Budan, that didn’t get any of the ball.
Whats done is done.
But falsate scudetto holds true.

Ok, I try to keep from arguing about these things but just for the record…
The Lucarelli penalty… both FSC announcers said at the time looking at the replay that it was a good non-call..
But we don’t take FSC seriously? Ok, La Gazzetta agreed and said this morning that Lucarelli was already falling and it shouldnt have been given
But of course they’re biased (La Gazzetta dell’Inter) so let’s go to Il Corriere (practically Roma’s hometown paper). Again, a 7 for Rocchi and no complaints over either of the penalties not given. Same thing, no penalty. Lucarelli was already falling.
At least one of the guys on Domenica Sportiva thought it was a penalty, the host pointed out that Lucarelli was already falling.
Regardless of what you think after watching it 100 times in slow-mo, it would have been absolutely ridiculous to call in this circumstance, in real-time.
La Gazzetta agreed with Rocchi’s non-call on the Materazzi push on Coly in the area. Domenica Sportiva said the contact wasn’t much and Corriere said Materazzi leaned a little but didn’t take Rocchi to task for not calling it.
The one (and only) episode that, seen as an isolated incident, people could take issue with is the Materazzi’s foul on Budan. It was dangerous, two-footed and he was the last man. Probably should have been a red BUT (as DS documented and the sports dailies mentioned) it was completely consistent with how Rocchi refereed tht match on both sides. There was an elbow by Couto on Maicon in like the first minute, an elbow by Vieira, a very hard challenge on Balotelli on the sidelines, Balotelli getting blatantly tripped from behind by a defender who was on the ground, and a hard challenge by Cesar. Rocchi had established throughout the whole match that he was NOT giving a red, and it would of been very unfair after letting so much go to send off Materazzi (who in his defense at least grazed the ball sort of)
Interisti see things one way, Romanisti another, but to make it seem like this was highway robbery that everyone witnessed is absurd…

Johonna is a red-neck retard? How many redneck retards do you know that follow calcio and write quotes in Italian?
Sounds like somebody’s mommy needs to give them a juice box…

Johonna you like la Giostra Dei Gol? I always found that irritating as hell…the commentators on Sky are much better than Rai too.

Regardless of the comments from unhappy Roma fans, I’m ecstatic we won! I wore my Materrazzi shirt to work today with pride. If only I could have been in Milan for the party! Prosimo anno.
I’m also sad we’re at the end of the season. I’ll have to make due with MLS games, yuck. I’m trying to get excited about MSL ’cause my home town is getting a MLS team. I’m sure going to the games will be more fun than watching MLS on TV.
Also, congrats to Man U. for their EPL win. Go reds!

Alessio, I dont have the option for Sky and I like watching the games in Italian therefore it was la giostra dei gol or nothing. It is annoying to have your game go into a little tiny box but it was my only option.
My cable company dropped RAI this year, though, so we could have another high definition golf channel and I refuse to have one of those ugly dishes hanging off my house, so…. I get nothing and I miss it.

My cable company also dropped RAI. I much preferred to watch calcio in Italian. I can watch some Italian calcio on-line but it’s not the same as on TV.
Johonna–I understand your reluctance to get a dish. My SO is very much apposed to them too. Just too ugly…
I’m forced to watch all my calcio on FSC. Anyone else notice a pro-Roma bias by FSC commentators? Or am I just paranoid?
