PoS: The Trophy and Beyond
By: Johonna | June 2nd, 2009
Picture of the Season: Champions of Italy… Again!
Oh ya, the rest. Well, Inter beat Atalanta 4-3, with a brace from Ibra, one from Muntari, and one from Cambiasso. Ibra’s last goal was enough to put him over the top, and with 25 goals, Ibra got his golden boot (which he now wants to take to Spain, but more on that later). If anyone is interested, Francesco thoughtfully posted a compilation of all of Ibra’s Serie A goals (here). In the end, Inter finished on 84 points (10 ahead of both Milan and Juve), had the best defensive record (allowed 32 goals), and tied with Milan for the most goals scored (70). I know we still stumbled in Europe, but, as consolation prizes go, the Scudetto rocks pretty darn hard. Plus, I am growing attached to that little shield on our kits.
I was a little blasé above about the game. In reality, it was a real nail biter. First we went ahead, then they equalized, then they went ahead… Well, see for yourself:
It was Figo’s last game and everyone was appropriately sniffly (including yours truly). The squad all wore Figo jerseys while warming up, the club gave him a platter, and probably the most moving thing, Zanetti gave him the captain’s arm band. Once again, you can see for yourself (keep the tissue handy):
The trophy presentation was after the game and, while exciting, was a little anticlimactic. Last year we won by the skin of our teeth (very exciting), and the year before was our first on the pitch in almost forever – plus we kicked everyone’s ass (also very exciting). This year, the trophy presentation was a nice little “Hooray” moment, but the real emotions (for me) came a couple weeks earlier when we won mathematically. For those that understand Italian (or just like to see the pretty pictures), SkySport did a special for Inter’s 17th Scudetto which has been posted up on Youtube as a four-part series.
(oh, and as an aside: I would like to point out that all those fans of other Italian clubs that flip us crap for not winning the Champions League – they would have loved to see their team hoisting the championship trophy this season. No matter what they say, they are eating their hearts out. Sort of like how we feel about Barcelona right now.)
One of the highlights for me is when the players all bring their little children on the pitch during the trophy ceremony. Most of the time we see the squad they are these hardened warriors complete with game-face. I just love it when they show that softer, daddy side… Like this (everybody all together, awwwwwww):

He may be a glory-hunting mercenary, but until Barcelona pony up that boat-load of cash, he is our glory-hunting mercenary – and this is pretty freakin’ cute.
WHAT NEXT
Well, I will do a year-end review (promise) where we can hash over the best and worst of the past 38 game days. Plus, there is national team football. Everyone mark your calenders – for Confederation Cup games, Daryl has kindly posted a broadcast schedule for the US and UK.
Oh, and later in the summer there will be a full complement of friendlies and cup tournaments, including the World Football Challenge which may see Inter coming to a city near you (and I think tickets are still available). I will do my best to keep you all informed and up to date about all of them.
Then there is the fun and games of the summer transfer period…. There is just so darn much to do this summer, I hope you will all stick around. It has been a great season and a great campaign – I cant wait to do it again next year!
FORZA INTER
And here is a little Scudetto-themed Julio Cesar love – at least there are no transfer rumors around him (crossing myself, sprinkling salt, knocking wood):

Apparently Inter only want cash for Ibra. According to Gazzetta:
Moratti already rejected the deal of Eto’o plus 25 million for Ibra AND Maxwell. And Moratti only wants 80 million for him (70 according to Corriere). I doubt we’ll get that high but at least the idea is right. We don’t need Eto’o. Eto’o and Milito are same the type of player we desperately need cash to revamp that midfield and get Ibra’s replacements.
Real and Chelsea are also reportedly interested. A bidding war between the three richest clubs in the world? Nice!!!!!!
More rumours about Toni, Cassano, Dzeko coming to Inter if Ibra leaves.

Yikes! Inter so do not need Lucca Toni! 6+5 or no.
As for the price… Well, that is one way to keep a player – price him out of the market. Does anyone really think that there is a club today that can spend 80 million euro for one single player?
And if they did, just think of the terrible pressure to perform.

Yes Johonna there is Real Madrid and their 250 Mil and Chelsea and their Billionaire president so there is and even Barce with the treple money . But surely no one will pay a straight cash of 80 mil for a player . But from what i know when a team wants such huge amount for their player they don’t get it straight away but they struck a deal for about 8% of the fee and the other 2% comes from the players number of goals and cups he wins with the club . So i think we surely can get 60 Mil for Ibra and the 20 Mil will come after he helps Barce wins cup and scores us many goals us he has being scoring for us and this is why Juventus board were stupid thats the kind of deal they should have struck with Inter for Ibra’s signature but Morrati should be wise and do the same cos at Barce he will score goals for fun. If Eto’o hit 30 then i think Ibra will hit 60 at Barce .

Everyone check out this debate from goal.com
http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2009/06/06/1308637/calcio-debate-why-inter-will-not-find-it-so-easy-to-win-theI for one think it is the same thing said last year and at the end of the campaign the started complaining about bad officiating next year when we start with our demolishing they will complain again and again .

Hmmm, Ibra was a bit less than scintillating in the Sweden v Denmark game today. Looks like it actually does matter what team you play with!

I’m not fan of the Italian national team but I watched them today just to see Santon and he was no short of FANTASTIC!!!

Lippi on the Kid: “Santon was outstanding, he has intelligence to understand that he is a good player, and he has not wasted time in showing it.”

The Argentina-Colombia game was one of the most physical I’ve seen in some time. I’m just glad that none of our players (Zanetti, Burdisso, Milito) was injured. Messi once again proved he’s the best player in the world.

Whoever new we bring in during the summer, I hope we include a freekick specialist. Balo seems like the only decent option we have. And I’m sick of Ibra hitting the wall nearly everytime with rockets that are launched more with hope rather than precision. I think Motta has a good kick. Don’t know about Milito, though.

Legro and Lippi are far to complementary to an Inter player.
We all know that Lippi is still Juventus – hell, we have the phone transcripts to show that he wants to fuck us over. I wouldn’t put it past him to do some advertising for his ‘friends’…
On other news, it has been rumored… lots of things… but more realistically is that they might extend Marco for 2 years so that he can retire with the club. It’s also been rumored that they have extended Santon until 2013.

skyder, C Ronaldo hits free kicks the same way and it drives me crazy. I actually think Ibra is better at freekicks than CR.
Milan have been rumored to be thinking about using their Kaka money for Mr. Man-Purse ( http://tinyurl.com/n343rw ). If that happened, it would make it that much easier for me to hate him.

haha yeah i can’t stand ronaldo. i don’t think milan has a chance of landing him.
if the elano rumors have any substance to them then you might get your guy skyder. he is supposedly a free kick specialist.

So whats the deal with Ibra? Inter turned down an offer of Eto’o and cash for Ibra and Maxwell? Sounds smart if the money wasn’t there. If Inter is to sell Ibra, they need to bring in a young, dominating, european-proven striker. The only name I can think of: Sergio Aguero.
And whats the deal with the transfers that have already happened, or are going to happen. Jo I could use a post on this. I’ve read up on Milito/used him in fifa 09 (haha), he seems like a solid signing to replace Cruz. Who is Motta and what does he bring to the table? Finally what is the deal with Acquafresca and Quaresma? Are either of them coming back. One more try Ricky Q.

It would appear that Moratti won’t let Ibra go for less than what he’d said before (70-80 million Euros). May be that’s what he told Laporta last week. Or, maybe (my theory completely) he went there wanting to unite the Milito brothers in Milan as Gabi is still on Barca’s books. Or, they talked about how to bring down Real Madrid and AC Milan. In any case, Moratti is not in any hurry to negotiate for Ibra.

A couple of WC Qualifier notes:
1. Obinna scored twice for Nigeria as they beat Kenya 3-0. (Did you know his last name is Nsofor? I thought he was Victor Obinna.)
2. Sweden lost to neighboring Denmark, meaning Zlatan’s chance of playing in the WC2010 is very slim now. If he wants to win the Ballon d’Or he’ll have to wait 2 yrs now, and win the CL in 2011.
3. J Cesar had a couple of fantastic saves in yesterday’s 4-0 shutout against Uruguay in Montevideo.
4. Il Capitano had a couple of typical slalom runs playing right back for Argentina against Colombia. He came on as substitute, as did Burdisso. (Milito did okay for an average Argentina side.) I’m not sure why Cambiasso wasn’t called up. Didn’t see Cordoba for Colombia.
5. Both Stankovic and Chivu played full 90 minutes, and their respective teams won 1-0.
6. As I write this, Muntari’s Ghana is playing against Mali, and winning 1-0Posted from

Apparently, Carvalho will sign for us tomorrow, but as a year-long LOAN, which is a good news.
Arnautovic’s agent claims he’s now signing for us on Thursday. This is getting a little too predictible…

For those who claim chants against Balotelli are not based on racism but Balo’s attitude, should read about today’s events. While walking in the streets of Rome, locals made monkey noise and threw bananas at him. This is especially hurtful as he was in Rome to represent Italy. For his part, Mario did well not to retaliate or even press charges.

No one ever defended the Romanista tifosi, we all know they are a bunch of shitheads. Stabbings everytime there’s a European game in the capital.

Roma are a joke and to think that they critize lazio fans for being racist and stuff bunch of hypocrites
so i heard that moratti would rather give ibra to real madrid in order to get sneijder or robben plus cash ? sounds like a better deal to me than the barcelona one because frankly we dont need eto’o at all
