Roma 0 – 4 Inter, Oh Happy Day

Inter 4 - 0 Roma, Matchday 7

Any day you take 3 points away from home is a good day. Any day you take 3 points from the Stadio Olimpico in Rome is a GREAT day.

As the picture above shows, Inter took the day against Roma, and quite convincingly too. I am not going to write a whole review as you can find a perfectly good one here from Channel 4, or even here from the hacks at Goal.com. Lets just say that Inter played a great game and were rewarded for their efforts. Here are the highlights for those that missed the game:

There has been some… erm… talk about Ibra’s first goal and whether or not it was offside. To help show that the goal was perfectly legal and not the result of a bad call, I have taken the screenshots from Il Corriere dello Sport and labeled them:
Series of screenshots showing Ibra onside.

As we can see, the linesman is keeping in line with the last defender, Cincinho. In picture 2, the ball is in play, Ibra has already started his run, and is still onside (note Cincinho at the top right). In picture number 3 we see the player’s positions at the time of play and the nice technicians at Sky Sports (or RAI) have added the line to show the position of Cincinho in relation to Ibra. True, I suppose those technicians could be part of a vast conspiracy, but then monkeys could fly out of my butt.

Moving on.

Positives — Well, besides the 4 goals, there is the added joy of the clean sheet. Inter did not just sit back after the second goal and close-up shop, we continued to attack.

Negatives
— Inter gave the ball away too often in the midfield. Also, we are still struggling with set pieces and free kicks. Oh, and we conceded way too many free-kicks – with players like Daniele de Rossi and Totti around, free kicks are a frightening thing. When you allow Totti to step up to a dead ball, you have to assume he is going to be on target.
Totti is one scary dude.
Clearly the wall thinks the ball is going in from this Totti free-kick
———–
Stankovic gets his first goal of the season. This game was a much-needed boost to the squad ahead of Anorthosis-Famagusta and an answer to those that complained that Mourinho’s style of play was not attacking enough. Right now, we are 2 points clear at the top, but there are 31 more game days in which anything can happen. We should enjoy this while we can and hope it is an indication of what is to come. Who knows, though, by next Monday morning, Catania could be in the lead.

Grazie, Inter, per una bella vittoria!
FORZA INTER

Oh, and I just found these of Julio Cesar from when he was on international break last week (Kirby, I did warn you).
Here he is wet:

I want one of those Inter Sports Jackets/Blazers that Mourinho wears during Matches.

I do love how my “bullshit reasoning” just turns out to be reality, though. That really made me laugh a lot.
And then the irony: I’m an idiot somehow, but the person who apparently is in charge of determining these things can’t figure out the rules behind “your” and “you are”. That was really funny, but typical. We all had a good laugh at that one over here.

I will enjoy that my team is currently at the top of the table, though…

Okay, morning laughs over with and on to new business. Our October looks thus:

Anorthosis this midweek, Genoa this weekend and then Fiorentina. FIrst of all, do we know anything about Anorthosis? And how do we feel about going to Genoa, where it is apparently hard to win?

Paolo, with the money that Mourinho makes, I couldn’t afford to even think about his clothes.

The only thing I know about Anorthorsis is that they are from Cypress, they drew @ Werder, beat the Greeks and are sitting even on points with Inter in Group B. It would be foolish to think 3 points is a lock. I think they will be very defensive and look for holes while trying to preserve an away draw. I expect them to have 7 behind the line at all times.

The good news about the Genoa match is that we are at home, where it is very tough to beat Inter. We will be at Fioretina on the Wednesday. There is no way we can look past Genoa. They will put up a fight.

Hopefully with Fiorentina, all these matches puts some strain on them and we can take advantage of that.

If we don’t take 9 points from these games then I would be happy with 7, but 5 is very possible too. I expect us to win at least 2 of these. One of the wins has to be the CL match. Don’t get me worng, 9 Points is possible too but will be very tough.

oh and I think the Blazer would be something that the team issues. Beppe wears one too. They just look cool with the Inter Logo on them and they look like they are pretty fashionable.

I’ll refrain from opining on the Viola match for obvious reasons.

Anothorsis are the best team in Cyprus by some margin and shocked both Werder and Pana. They will almost certainly look to park the bus in front the goal as they did (successfully) in Bremen, and it will be up to the Nerazzurri to break them down. Mourinho is afraid that attendance will be low and I’m afraid he’s likely to be right (we aren’t going because we are travelling early Thursday morning).

The blazers are team issue and part of the sponsorship deal with Facis. They aren’t on general sale, but one could probably do a reasonable knock off by buying a blazer in one of their outlet stores and having a uniform patch sewn on.

I never noticed the Inter logo on it. I thought I saw him wear a grey one this year that also looked pretty nice.

    He looks fantastic :)

I agree that we have a good chance with Genoa playing at Meazza. All due respect to Genoa, I think we are the better team at home.

Fiorentina at home is also going to be a tough match. I don’t see how any result other than a draw could be reasonably predicted there. They have Gilardino playing out of his mind, Mutu if he’s healthy, Pazzini and Osvaldo so they definately have the firepower. The question is do they have the defence to stop our guns?

So, I guess I am predicting 4 points between Genoa and Fiorentina.

I think that if we can win at home tomorrow, we are set for the group stage. But I know nothing about these guys. I hope I can catch the game on UEFA tomorrow night.

    Hahha MAD…
    You’re hilarious.

I was actually trying to sympathize with you and be a nice guy but whatever. And earlier, I was just trying to see if there is one photo or video of the ball being kicked and the line between onside and offside. That’s all. I’m sure it was onside because the linesman was running with Ibra the entire time…

Seriously take it easy. Not everyone is attacking Inter all the time. I mean, I may not like them that much, and may even hate them, but I’m not one to spew vitriol over another team’s board for no reason.

If I do visit another team’s board, it’s usually to congratulate the team/player on a good game, post my opinion in a calm, collected manner about a certain issue, or just see what everyone else is talking about.

As for the NT Blog, I have stopped being a jackass on it haha. I admit I was going a little overboard. DDR, Aqui, & Totti get my heart racing… No Homo.

Aw go on Ursus, give us a run down on your thoughts of Inter and Fiorentina! If not this week then definitely next.

The bigger question is, will there be bad blood in “The Den” between Ursi Major and Minor!

Good luck against Anothorsis Famagusta, I am afraid that you won’t need it at all…

Though, that’s also what I thought about CFR Cluj in the CL this year, and we see how wrong I was. I didn’t even have a cluj about their play.

MAD, I thought I’d mentioned this before, but ursus minor has set down a very specific set of “rules” for his father’s behaviour at any Inter-Fiorentina match.

No purple, no celebrating Viola goals, no slagging off Inter (that’s for him to do if they aren’t playing well).

Which is why his mother has taken him to that particular fixture for the last three years running . . .

Fiorentina’s problem is that they are nowhere near as deep as Inter are. Given that we have to go away to Munich and Palermo before we get home to play the Nerazzurri, my hopes are very limited.

BTW, La Gazzetta thinks that Toldo is going to play tomorrow night.

I think Fiorentina will be the toughest task of the 3 games. I am just hoping that, with all the matches being played in a short period of time, it takes a greater toll on the Viola and we can use our depth to our adavantage in that match. They do have to travel to Germany and then Palermo before they host us. We have 2 home games that are, arguably, not as difficult before we travel there. I do think schedule favours us more. If we had o play them them when both teams had the chance to prep all week I think they would be more dangerous.

It won’t be easy and they are still very dangerous. I hope they do Bayern Munich in today, enough that Toni tries to get on their plane home ;) I really want them to advance out of their group.

Fiorentina have too much quality to dismiss at all. They can beat any team in Serie A at any time. I’m not just saying that because ursus is often around, I really love what they did over the summer and made no pains to hide it. If they pick up a defender or one of their young guys pick it up, look out.

Plus, I really like the coach.

I just read a “report” that Mancini wouldn’t mind coaching Roma or Juventus next season. Has anyone asked the clubs, first? Has he been released from Inter, yet or is he still drawing pay since he was fired before his contract ran out?

I just read about the bus crash into a house killing 2. Terrible.

Toldo? For real? Woo Hoo! I like when Toldo plays. He is still a grande portiere and had some Ginormous matches last season in goal. He could be a starter in a lot of places and I am very happy that he stayed with the club when there was speculation of him moving in the off season.

Dare I say we could possibly have the best goal tending tandem in Europe? Nah, that would be going too far. I am confident, though, in his abilites and feel no anxiety when he starts in place of JC.

Doubt that was a reverse jinx attempt from MAD, but if the Viola demonstrate the “quality” they showed in Munich tonight, Inter will win by at least three clear goals.

The Fiorentina game was a bit brutal.

And yes, Mancini is still under contract. It has been in the news lately that he refuses to settle.

    Very tawdry.

    Ouch…

I wasn’t trying to reverse jinx the Viola… firstly because I don’t believe they exist (like the elusive R.O.U.S. ’s) and secondly because I do like the team.

But my goodness, were they crushed. I just caught the highlight show on FSC. Not good at all.

I have to say that I was surprised at the Juve score. No way did I think that Real were going to lose that game. After what happened on saturday…

Hold on… I sense a pattern here… lose on the weekend, win during the week…

    Uh oh.
