Snakes over Toros
By: Johonna | September 21st, 2008Johonna is out of town, so I’m standing in for her. The drugs are starting to kick in, so this will be brief.
Hats off to Maicon for that amazing shot in the 26th minute. I love this guy! Not only can he spend 90 minutes running up and down the sideline, but he can score too!

Maicon scores in the 26th minute
Nice to see Mancini fitting in at Inter. He never looked motivated at Roma. I guess Pisano technically gets credit for his goal, but a nice shot anyway. It would be nice to score something other than own goals. According to Channel4.com “the Nerazzurri’s four goals so far this season included three own goals.”
This was our line-up (nice to see Chivu back on the pitch):
Inter: Julio Cesar; Maicon, Burdisso, Materazzi, Chivu; Vieira, Cambiasso, J Zanetti; Adriano (Balotelli 67), Ibrahimovic (Cruz 88), Mancini (Quaresma 64)
Here’s Torino’s line-up:
Torino: Sereni; Diana, Di Loreto, Pratali, Pisano; P Zanetti (Ogbonna 66), Corini (Barone 46), Saumel; Rosina (Abbruscato 30), Amoruso; Bianchi
Some more pics from the game.

Mancini bounces one off Pisano

JM looking happy at Torino

The chocco kits are just weird to me still.
Johonna’s-significant-other, I think at on point she mentioned you are Romanista, right? Just curious.

So, I was mentioning this the other day but Mancini played very well today, as he has since he came here. I think it was his shot that forced the own goal, and his excellent pass sprang Ibra for the third goal.
The three guys we had out there today should frighten people: Ibra, Adri, Mancini.

Thanks ursus arctos, it is that jersey..

Ale, your “gold” ones are weird to the rest of the country.
Lots of commentary this afternoon about the “natural order” of things being restored. Inter and Juve atop Serie A.

–and Milan winning at half, which I think everyone expected them to do on match day one.
I try not to look at the table this early if I can help it.
Milan-Lazio is pretty entertaining I think. Lazio is going to be a pain with Zarate/Pandev and Rocchi when he gets back and they find a way for the three of them to play together.

–This is Johonna’s SO, not Johonna–
Ursus,
It is true that I have a DDR jersey (which Johonna gave me for Xmas), ma sono pro Inter.

Wasn’t my question, but rather that of alessio (a very fine young man who has one fatal flaw, rather like a Greek hero).
But still pleased to see that you are on the side of the just in this respect.
And Giro, glad to help. It is one of the more popular “strange” Inter jerseys here, even if the season in which it finished was nothing to write home about.

Yea for a Palermo fan I have an odd collection of jerseys. That Inter jersey is one of my favorites along with a Flamingo Juve jersey and of course my Palermo jersey.

Ursus, it’s all about the imagery. When we returned to Serie A in this, it was all about purity and being clean. The gold on the bianconero kit and the gold 2nd kit
is about glory and returning the team to success.Posted from

This is johonna (from my phone). Thank you for the post, John (he was being so mysterious). I will be back Tuesday with your regularly schedualed programming.

But ale, the “gold” on the first kit is yellow (even more yellow than the yellow in the New Holland logo).
Is it supposed to be all about cowardice?
You missed a good one Johonna, though so did Inter for the last 15 minutes.
One thing that everyone here can’t stop talking about is how Mourinho appears to have gotten these guys to actually like and care for each other and to play as a team. Their body language on and off the pitch is completely different from the frequent sulking contests of the Mancini era. And here we were always told that Mancio was a “player’s coach”.

It’s derby day Sunday and if we played close to how we played yesteday against Napoli…it’ll be a cracker of game!!!

I meant Lazio in my comment above.

This derby will be interesting because of the midfield attack of Milan. Without Muntari, we are going to be limited, I think, pressing as high up the field as effectively as Mourinho wants.
Plus, using Mancini and Quaresma as outside wings pus Maxwell and Maicon (assuming thats the lineup) acting like wings anyway– we may have to temper our attack coming out of the back of the outside to help defend against Zambrotta (you know he’s coming forward) / Kaka / Dinho / Seedorf / Boriello.
We are going to need to bust our humps getting up the field and attack the “Silver Horde” in Milan’s defense and get the hell back on defense against those named above.
If we can keep it from being an end to end affair– I think that their midfield works best moving forward creating at speed, and rough them up enough where they are uncomfortably twitchy, I think we will have a good shot.
I like our defense and forwards against their defense and forwards. Their midfield is better than ours, though.

I think the best way to play us (Milan) is to counter us to death.
We can’t run back on “D” as fast as needed to effectively stop any counter. (see the Genoa & Bologna games)
Maldini is super slow now and is liability. Without Nesta in the back we’re like a sieve.
But if we’re clicking like we were yesterday on offense…we can afford to let in a couple of goals and still come out with 3 points.Posted from

Inter’s wingers (Mancini, Figo, Quaresma) v. Milan’s fullbacks…..we all know Zambrotta loves to go forward but he often neglects his defensive duties in doing so. That will be an interesting combo.

Man, I am totally looking ahead to Milan. I shouldn’t admit it, but it’s hard to look at Lecce when the hallway rival is fast approaching.
I hope we don’t suffer a let down to Lecce (we are home, right?). I have read that we are going to rest people like Ibra, Mancini and Cambiasso.
On a completely different tact, I read that Suazo is already missing time for injury.

being on top the league for 35 rounds will make me a happy little camper! what you guys think about that?

I think we might see Figo on Wednesday…just to give Mancini/Quaresma (can’t wait to see them run at Milan’s defense!) some rest. I watched the first 20 minutes or so of the 2nd half of Milan-Lazio…going forward they looked pretty damn good but Lazio had some great chances of their own.
This week will feel like forever!! Thank god for the midweek game.
Forza Inter.
