So I Guess We Know Who Is NOT Leaving
By: Johonna | July 1st, 2008
While desperately searching for some news of a transfer - any news of an actual, honest-to-god transfer, I came upon the ad above. You can, of course, have your jersey personalized — I thought it was sort of amusing that the only choices they give you are: Zanetti, Figo, Ibrahimovic, Maicon, Cambiasso, Materazzi, and Balotelli. Are these the only players that the club are guarantying will be at Inter next season to wear the jersey?
I just hope there is no sign of that horrible brown thing when they publicly announce the new away jersey.
Ragazzi, desidero c’è più notizie. Forse la prossima settimana.

There is a significant portion of Chelsea’s support that still hasn’t accepted that Mourinho is gone.
Egged on by much of the English media, they never gave Grant a chance and are far from convinced about Scolari. To those people, losing Lampard (who is both English and very much identified with the Mourinho era) would be another step in what they consider to be a very wrong direction (a road that can be seen to have started with the signings of Ballack and (especially) Shevchenko), and significantly more depressing from a purely psychological point of view than losing pretty much any player other than Terry (while at the same time acknowledging that players like Cech and Essien are more important to Chelsea’s chances of future success).
They also have been convinced by the English media that Lampard’s market value is several times what it actually is, and therefore consider Inter’s offer to be “insulting”.

Well, I can take him or leave him. It’s not like English players have a great history playing in Italy, anyway. If he comes great- I hope he does a hell of a job. If he doesn’t, we’ll just have to “get by” with Cambiasso in the middle. I would much rather have Quaresma, if we can.
It looks like Mancini talks are on again. I have no problem getting him either… as long as he brings a threat from the outside like he’s supposed to.
In other news, and I hope I’ll be forgiven this, but Pescara just signed a bunch of new players! Delfini! There’s really nowhere else I can be excited about about this. Bonus points goes to whomever can find Pescara on a map without google, wikipedia or any electronic aid. Hell, bonus points if your map shows Pescara!

Off-season is killing me! Moratti sign someone soon please!! Apparently Valencia are bankrupt and need to sell either Silva or Villa…I would love to see either of them at Inter.

MAD, I’ve been to Pescara.

I, too, have been to Pescara. I dont think it is as remote as you think it is! =0)
So, what do I get for my points? Can I turn them in for valuable prizes? Perhaps 100 will get you a Hello Kitty eraser… Does anyone besides me remember Chuck E Cheese’s?

You know, I can’t tell you how happy I am. I am grinning from ear to ear to hear that there are more than… well me… in a given time and place who have actually heard of such a small city of it let alone been there.
Most people are only familiar with the other coastline that they forget about us, on the Adriatic… and most of the time, I am pretty happy about it, you know?
And Johonna, those Prestigious Bonus Points you earned may one day be worth 1/100th of a Hello Kitty eraser, whatever that is.

I met personnel from Pescara’s youth program. I was 10 or 11 years old. For reasons I have never understood, they sent scouts to look at some players on my team and in the league I was playing in.

Well, the job of a team that small is to buy’em young, grow’em alittle and then sell’em for as much as possible to Serie B teams… usually for not that much.
Johonna, I just did some research on “hello kitty” and here is your redeemed points prize (I hope they come through):

Thanks! For those of you not raised in the California suburbs in the 1980s, Chuck E Cheese’s is pizza place where you pump hundreds of your parents hard-earned quarters into video games and skee-ball and win tickets you can redeem for “valuable prizes.” Usually about 30 will get you a pencil or something. Of course, if you took the money you put into the machines to win the tickets, you could buy a whole package of pencils but that is not the same as “winning” them.

We used to have b-day parties at Chuck E Cheese’s as kids! I used to love that place!! I discovered a way to rip them off for more tickets than what I actually won too! I hadn’t seen one around in years then they just recently built a new one 10 min from my house.
MAD, yes it was really cool knowing you were being scouted, but even at 10 or 11 I was still amazed that they came so far for scouting.

Paolo, that is way cool. I have a friend who’s actually from Pescara, or else I probably wouldn’t know about it. What league/state were you in that they scouted?

I was curious about why Chelsea are digging their heels in over Lampard so I took a walk over to the Chelsea board on the Off Side
http://chelsea.theoffside.com/randomness/video-hitler-v-lampard.html#comments
and this is what I found. I think it is a good summary of how Chelsea fans feel about Lampard. Insightful (and so funny I almost fell out of my chair laughing). Not for the easily offended though.

Has anyone else noticed that FSC is daily (so far) rebroadcasting the U21 tournament from France. They have also been showing “classics” from last season once or twice a week. In case, like me, you’ve been missing your luxurious Sundays of sport these showings rank a little better than MLS but better than… alternatives. I have been thankful for them actually.

johanna, why don’t you feature the video on your page. its hilarious and involves both inter and chelsea

Alessio, I live in Toronto. The league was the Central Soccer League’s Elite Division at the time. The football here is/was pretty high calibre.

Mancini is an Inter player for “around” 13 million euro and has signed a 4 year contract worth 3.5 million a season.

Chuck E Cheese’s rocks!!!!
I used to go their for birthday parties, and get together’s as a little dude!!
I loved Skee Ball, and the ball pit.
Anyone remember the puppet shows with the huge human-sized puppets on the stage?
Those things scared the shit out of me!
Sempre Roma!

tuttomercatoweb had the Mancini to Inter story with the “official” red label on it but I don’t see a transfer fee. How sure are we that it’s 13 mil?
Goal.com (as always supply your own salt) says that we are NOT going after Quaresma anymore. I think Quaresma on our team would be phenomenal! I hope this is merely rumor.

Gazzetta story on Mancini here:
http://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Calciomercato/Primo_Piano/2008/07_Luglio/10/mancinifatto.shtmlI think that the 13 million figure is much more likely to be true than Il Romanista’s report of 15 million.

While I have no idea what’s going on in Jose’s brain, one would think Mancini arriving makes Quaresma a whole hell of a lot less likely, even with his fetish for wingers.

Alessio, I completely understand where you are coming from with that, but pretty much everything I’ve seen here and in Portugal is saying that he would be very happy to have both of them. Remember that he is also obsessed with having real cover at every position (though one wonders what he is thinking about the defence in that regard).
Looks like Van der Vaart is off to Real Madrid, btw. Had you guys given up on him? It really does look like Ranieri is going to give the kids a chance this season.

Juve gave up on Van der Vaart about 7 months ago.

Quaresma is too good to give up on because you have Mancini. I don’t gush often, but he is playing Cl level football, is on the National Team and has an embarrassing amount of technical skill at the age of 25 or so. He would be the perfect player to bring in on a 4 or 5 year contract and then watch the assists roll in.
But Mancini is okay, I guess. I mean, he much cheaper apparently and Roma, for all their faults just held out for more money… unlike the horror show in London. What is their problem?

MAD, the Mancini discussions have been going on since the end of the season. The Lampard ones only started in earnest last week.
You guys are all too impatient; the real world does not operate on a Football Manager time scale.

The Lampard stuff is melodramatic, which is what I am referring to. I could care less when it gets done, because I don’t really feel any great love/need for the player.
It’s just loud and looks pretty bitter to me- between the player and his still official team. Considering how long I have waited for Inter to sign just one player without any real commentary– compared to the Roma board or the newspapers for example– I think I have done rather well. Have I mentioned how much I would prefer Quaresma to either player.
