Yes, he can play in the middle, though it isn’t his best position. Also worth recalling that there were plenty of times in Mancini’s “rombo” that there was literally no one in the middle of the pitch.

Also, if push came to shove Muntari, I think, was a centre midfield player with Udinese and Portsmouth before he came to Inter. Then all the outside midfielders can play their normal positions and we haven’t really put anyone in a bad position.

Personally, I don’t have a problem with Muntari and Vieira in the middle against Catania, and agree with you that I would rather hold guys back for Panathinaikos if they are genuinely tired than rush them back on Saturday night.

Pana lost their opening match of the season to AEK away, but they can be difficult at home and I think that Ten Cate will ultimately be a real plus for them. From a nerazzuro point of view, it is good to get this match out of the way now, as they are likely to get better as the season goes on and new players like Gilberto Silva are better integrated.

Ursus, I think you detect a note of hysteria in my posts that is not entirely there. It was a legitimate question: If neither Stankovic or Cambiasso is available, who left is best suited to play as a defensive midfielder?

The list was to show that all we had were a truck-load of wingers. Oh, and Vieira. And I dont know that I want Zanetti and Cambiasso to play on Saturday.

The Greeks are a total unknown. We know from past Euro tournaments that there are some very talented Greek players. You are right about Serie A being a marathon, and I suppose the CL is too, but, if given a choice, I think it is more important to have our South Americans rested for the CL game than play against Catania. I am not underestimating Catania, only saying that a win against Panathinaikos is more important than a win against Catania at this stage.

No, I meant it. He is right. If a person wants to be an infantile ass that is their prerogative. Who am I to police their behavior? And in the end, our little snit was boring and long. Once I get in combat mode, I find it very difficult to step back.

The verdict of the Inter medical team on Stankovic’s knee injury. I doubt he will be playing against Catania, but it sounds very much as if he will be out no more than a week.

Stankovic will be evaluated by the medical staff this morning; the Argentines will play if they have to. It will be ok, really.
