The Boys are Back in Town! (with the new kit)

By: Johonna | July 17th, 2008

The boys

And I am so excited that I can hardly stand it!

Training began today for the upcoming season and over 3000 fans came to see the new Mister at work. Apparently they were in fine voice, chanting “portaci Lampard, Mourinho portaci Lampard” (bring us Lampard). I would like to add “ma non per 20 milioni.” I think we all can agree, though, it is very nice to see the sqad in training kits again. It literally warms my heart. The team seems happy to be back and there appears to be a real comradery between the players. In fact, some of them were very happy indeed to see each other (yes, that is our fearless captain and Maicon).

In yesterday’s press conference, Mourniho spoke a bit about what he expects from his players:

I can’t ask the players to do things that I can’t do, I only ask them to do what I can do too. If, for example, I get here an hour and a half before before training I can’t accept a player arriving late. With common sense and communication, we won’t have any problems. There might be small internal fines for lateness or forgetfulness, but I don’t think the amount of the fine is important for players who earn e few million euros. What counts is that training must start at ten if scheduled for that time. If there are 24 players on the pitch it’s perfect. If there are only 14 I will just work with them because I won’t accept anyone else… They will go home. And they will go when even when there’s a match.

Apparently the team took this to heart, and training began ten minutes early. Clearly, this man is here to work! Even Moratti, who was at the training center to see what was what and check out Mourinho’s moves (at Mou’s invitation, no less) was sure to be on time, saying:

Yes. Even I was almost worried about being late… This was a public message that he gave, and I think he spoke to the players with lots of clarity, fondness and faith. He’s trying to create an atmosphere of discipline and mutual trust.

“An atmosphere of discipline and mutual trust.” Music to my ears. I know Mancini did great things for us – and I thank him from the bottom of my heart – but I never really felt like the majority of players respected him 100% of the time. And after the Liverpool affair, could building an atmosphere of discipline and mutual trust really have been possible with him? I dont think so. Moratti went on speak of Mourinho’s “great dynamism” on the pitch. Really, would you want to disappoint this man? I think not. He looks so focused and organized – he has a clipboart and everything!

While the whole squad did not train on the pitch — Ibrahimovic, Vieira, Samuel and Chivu are still injured and worked with medical staff — the players that were there seemed to be really pulling out the stops (cue the montage).

(Alessio, that last one was for you). Isn’t it odd to see Mancini up there? It will definitely take some time before that looks entirely right.

So, what now. Well, we seem to be moving on to Plan B in the transfer market. I dont think the squad is complete. Mourinho was quite specific, saying “I need another midfielder.” Any thoughts on who that might be? Personally, I am still holding out for Quaresma. As he has yet to take the field with Porto, he may still be in the works. I think we should have a little Inter Offside pool on who this mysterious midfielder will be. I am optimistic and will stick with Quaresma. Besides, I just dont see Napoli selling Hamsik.

A couple of other things Mourniho said caught my eye (both the transcript and video of the press conference are on Inter’s website). First, Mourinho said he was going to make something of a personal project out of Stankovic:

Stankovic isn’t a problem. I like him as a player and what I will say now is what I told him earlier, otherwise I wouldn’t allow myself to say it: for me the Stankovic at Inter has never been the Stankovic he was at Lazio. For me working with him is a challenge. If possible I will try to get him back to being like he was in his Lazio years.

The other one is sort of snarky, but I love his response to Ancelotti’s dig (”Mourinho to Milan? He can’t even kick a ball…”):

… I think he forgot one important thing. In the history of Milan a super important coach was Arrigo Sacchi who never played football better than me. Personally, my dentist is fantastic and he’s never had toothache.

Pure class. Plus, he has those oh-so-cute dimples. For sure, now we have the dreamiest coach in town. For reference, here is the whole staff – Mou’s gang, if you will:

Dont they look formidable?

Oh, and in case you missed it, Inter are now proud half-owners of Luis Jimenez.

Ricordate, Ragazzi, domani vedremo le nuove maglie.

And here it is, the new kit. It is not as bad as it could have been. I can live with “chocolate” shorts.

    MAD.

Mexes is one of the best defenders in Serie A. Bottom line. Goals given up may not be his fault. Watch the film. He is a fucking highlight reel. And the 7-1 goes squarely on the shoulders of Chivwhoo e Doni.

And btw he got passed over because Domenech hates Italy and all those frenchman playing in Italia won’t EVER see a second on the field on his little timex. It is fine by me, he can stay healthy and elaxed per La Roma. We all Domenech is bumbling fool anyway.

We are about to sign Mutu and Malouda. Baptista was always second if Mutu didn’t work out. Reyes? Basta.

    Next?

Daniele I miss penalties De Rossi made one in the World Cup when it counted. Are you italiano?

I am sure you would love him in your squad.

Don’t be jealous Mad One! ;)

Because Juve’s management still seems interested in bringing him in, on loan.

    Daniele.

Watch the film? I keep it on DVR! Mexes is in no-man’s land the whole time, when he isn’t caught cheating forward. That’s not the centre back that I want on my team.

I don’t really care about Domenech’s problems. Mexes was left off the squad for a reason. I know why Trez was left off. Mexes? There’s got to be a reason.

Yes, I am an Italian. I am not sure what that has to do with the fact that De Rossi can’t make penalties. Or play well on my national team…

And I am sure, by that statement, that you know less about me than you think.

Who am I jealous of again? Apparently I am so jealous all the time, it’s hard to remember what it was in this instance…

Another link of Muntari to Inter by way of Udinese and Portsmouth:

    http://tuttomercatoweb.com/?action=read&id=114772

It’s in Italian, so translate if needed, but it essentially says that we are after Sully if we can’t get Lampard. Sully will want 2.8 millions (I assume Euro, it doesn’t say and he’s been playing in England so I am not sure.) a year.

What I think is interesting is that we seem to be collecting an eclectic group in the midfield. It’s either attack on the outside, or defense in the middle.

Could we be looking at a 4-5-1, with the outside 2 of the midfield pushing up and the middle three back on defense turning into a 4-3-2-1?

Or could we be looking at a 4-4-2 with a diamond formation and the middle two midfielders playing essentially defensively side by side looking like a 4-2 middle-2 wide-2 strikers and the outside midfield pushing up?

Or will Mo’ play the 4-3-3 with what looks like 3 strikers at the top, the two outside midfielders pushing up and the remaining midfielder playing back a bit in front of the defense?

Figuring out what the hell Mo’ will do with all these players is going to be Part Two of Mercato Summer…

It is clear, he left him off becasue he plays in italy.

why in the fucking hell would you choose Thuram over Mexes?

    Ha.

    No man’s land?

Re-watch. I have them all DVR’d as well.

He is like Sergio Ramos. Plays upfield, and usually wins the ball, and has speed and strength to retreat.

He is not in “no man’s land”. Our backs tend to go up more than most, and this may be the reason he looks out of position iyo.

Ha. De Rossi was played next to bumbling idiots, and then when Aqui came on he was played as a winger. Which he is not. With the right tacitcal scheme (cough cough see Lippi) De Rossi can shine.

    Adesso?

Yeah, sure Daniele. Mexes had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with 7 goals against, 4 of which came from the top of the penalty area right in front of the goal mouth. Okay. Whatever.

Okay on to more important things than last years also rans and next years never will bes:

    Quaresma is ever nearer:
    http://www.transfermarketweb.com/?action=read&idsel=21366

Lampard (thank you!) may be out of reach next year as long as Chelsea continue to be the completely stupid club that they are:
    http://www.transfermarketweb.com/?action=read&idsel=21367

Inter picked up a new signing, but won’t see it for a couple of years because he’s 16 yeas old:
    http://www.transfermarketweb.com/?action=read&idsel=21297

We may be closer to Sully:

Crespo is going to hold his breath until he is told he can stay:

    Ha.

Goals let in, and defending go deeper than one CB. Sure he has reponsibilites but in the run up in open play to the goal you have to see who didn’t track back, who gave away a sloppy pass, and which weak side defender left a man open.

I can probbaly blame Pizarro for 4 of the 7.

And can remember 3 distinct goals on Mexes side where Pizarro gifted the ball away.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Mexes is at fault… I get it. I’ve moved on Daniele, in case you haven’t got the gigantic HINT. I’ve seen the game numerous times. You can blame who you want. I really don’t care.

Have fun continuing this on the Roma board.

This is from Goal.com… so you know… The article was talking about Ibra, his injuries and how he is training again. It important bit is the formation of the “strikers” for the friendly which should be about now, I guess.

“The 26-year-old has now returned to training though with the rest of his team-mates, and he should definitely be fit in time for the new season.

Meanwhile, Inter have a friendly this evening against Saudi Arabian champions Al Hilal. Adriano will start up-front in his first game for the club since last October, and he will be supported in a trident strike force by Mario Balotelli and Luis Figo.”

And the rumor is that the White Smoke has been seen in the Sully Muntari acquisition. Quaresma is said to be not too far behind. By happy “accident”, the agent for Sully, Ricardo and Mo’ is the same person…

Looks like we picked up the 23 year old Portsmouth midfielder Muntari for 12 Mil.

And, I am fucking excited!!!! This kid is such a terrific presence in the middle of the field, he has a rocket for a shot, and he is still young. He CAN become one the best.

However, does this mean we give up on Ricardo and close the transfer session. Or do we make him our last signing?

How surprising can it be? Inter will play each team twice, once at home, once away. Since we will win every match, it doesnt much matter in what order we do it. :)
