The New Kits: Yes, They are Black and Blue
By: Johonna | July 16th, 2009
Drumroll please…..
Ta Da!

The rational behind the new kit (from Inter’s web page):
The 2009/10 home shirt marks the one hundredth anniversary of Inter’s first Scudetto and the the triumphs of the 1965/66 season when Inter won their tenth league title and second Intercontinental Cup, while the away shirt recalls that worn by the Great Inter side of the 1960s. The club crest is encircled by the colours of the Italian flag on both shirts.

If you notice, Toldo is wearing a kit very much like last year’s keeper uniform. In fact, it is exactly the same. Apparently, this venue was just too large for the new keeper kit:
Toldo, Orlandoni and Belec were the only players on stage wearing the same kit as last season. This is because Nike will organize another, more intimate presentation, to reveal a unique new goalkeeper’s shirt for 2009/10.
Oooo, it sounds a bit naughty, doesn’t it? Admit it, you are all curious now. Ten minutes ago the last thing on your mind was Inter’s new keeper shirt but now you that is all you can think about. For me, I am just dying to know why the uniqueness of the jersey requires intimacy. The mind boggles.
As for anything else that may be happening in the Inter universe, at least for tonight, I am putting my fingers in my ears and shouting “la la la la” at the top of my lungs.
FORZA INTER
Dont they look happy?

B-52, the operative word in your comment is “formed.” Inter does not have the midfield Barcelona has – not by a long shot. Our team will not be able to support Eto’o in the manner to which he is accustomed. We need a forward who will help make the chances and capitalize on them. Eto’o only does one of those things.
Also, we need forwards who will help win back possession. Eto’o doesn’t do that either. He may be a great player for Barcelona, but I am not convinced his particular skill set will fit with Inter, especially given that he is meant to replace Ibra.

Johonna, the Cules say that Eto’o does help win back possession. In fact, among Eto’o haters and lovers alike, they all seem to agree that Eto’o has a terrific work rate and doesn’t shy away from defensive duties. They’re worried about the opposite thing, that Ibra will not be able to match Eto’o’s work rate.

Vinod, the correct phrasing is “worried to death that Ibra will not be able to match Eto’o’s work rate.”
Isn’t Ibra in the situation that Eto’o was in last year, in the next-to-last year of a contract? If so, I would guess that Moratti is selling to avoid what we’re going through right now, which is no parts of a party. A player in the last year of his contract….yuck.
I’ve been asking the “Why hasn’t anyone except Citeh bid on Eto’o” question for a while now. We don’t have an answer in Barca-land, except for silly salary demands.

No. Ibra has four years left on his contract – he just renewed last year.

I honestly think Ibra’s work rate was much improved last year under Mourinho.

i honestly dont think he will go. anyone else wrote a letter to helena asking her to stop all this from happening?
soemone mentioned the idea of kun. i say if we sell ibra we get him.

Vinod, Ibra in Champions League games disappears with or without the help of his team mates. Kaka was good enough to win it on a team with half the quality your inter squad has, thats why Kaka is Ballon’dor good and Ibra just isnt.
This deal of Eto+40mil+Hleb is more than generous, cause so far all Ibra has done is prove that he is up to the task when up against smaller teams but when the big games matter he just doesn’t show up.

Well, I return from my friday siesta to see that you all are unkilled from transfer window worry/tension/DrAmA.
Well done.
Eto’o still hasn’t agreed to a transfer from Barca? How surprising. In other news, the sky is blue…
I think that I will peruse the internets to see if there are any other unsubstantiated rumors…

By the way, I’m really amused to see Adam trying to tell us all about Ibra.
Another Adam highlight? The summer after the 2007/2008 season Adam was on this blog telling us all that Ibra will never score more than the 17 or so goals he scored that year…
He’s like a prophet…

In completely unrelated news… Marotta the Grand Poobah of Sampdoria said: Amantino Mancini è in cima alla nostra lista del desideri.

First of all let me say I love reading this blog page and props to johonna and MAD who have done a good job.
Regarding the proposed deal
PROS:
-We benefit financially.
-We get two of the best finishers in the world and it will force us to possibly invest in players who can provide us width(a la Cassano)
-With the 40M we can puruse Hamsik/Sneijder/Moutinho and/or Cassano and if that happens we will have a team that will be just as good as last year
-We can Hleb on loan and he could get his form back that he had at Arsenal.CONS:
-This will only hurt Inter and Serie A in the long run since it will show that stars in their prime want to play in Spain or England.
-We lose our main superstar.
-We will strengthen Barca even more and make it that much harder to win the CL next year.
-I WONT SEE IBRA next weekend in the Inter-Milan derby here in the States!Posted from

Jo,
If we are talking about “winning back possession” then Eto’o is light years ahead of Ibra. Barça’s strength last year was in the high pressure defense they played, starting with the front three, including Eto. Winning possession is not only about chasing down players and tackling a la rooney and tevez, but intelligently forcing teams a certain way and keeping a compact, high line. Mourinho already got the fast defender to do the latter part, and swapping Ibra with Eto will help with the former.
As for making chances, I agree that Ibra is light years ahead of Eto, I just think that when he plays we play through him and no other way. This is not the same as when Eto played for Barça, and I’m not convinced this will be bad for Inter.

This whole thing stinks to be honest I for one do not want ibra to say anymore he’s treated us like some 2nd tier team that’s not good enough for him I’m riding shotgun with MAD and paolo on this one I say get him out of milan drag him by his big ass nose if we have to but I don’t want eto’o in the deal I want cash a lot of it then we could solve our creativity problem in midfield by buying someone like says luka modric/ledesma or push for hamsik once more get cassano and save the rest of the money to fix san siro’s wet ass grass
And I find it funny that barca fans are complaining that eto’o misses easy scoring chances have of them EVER watched ibra ? Lol this man misses so many unbelievable chances that you wonder if the opponent haven’t paid him toAnd for the love god moratti you dumb ass don’t spend a cent of that money we’re gonna get on deco!

And for those who would like to see my simplistic statistical comparison between top-flight strikers:

In terms of the whole Eto’o requiring great service…that goes both ways. Yes, having great passers makes it easier for a striker to score goals, but a poor finisher on a team with great passers sooner or later stops getting service and finds himself on the bench. Secondly, if you watch video of Eto’o’s goals, you will see some incredibly intuitive off-the-ball movement from Eto’o, making it easy for a quick, accurate passer to find him in a dangerous position within the box.
And let’s face it, he scores bundles with Cameroon, and scored bundles with Mallorca (he is the leading scorer for both clubs), without having great service. As much as Xavi, Messi, Iniesta, Deco, and Dinho made him look good, his off the ball movement and tremendous workrate and clutch goalscoring instinct made them look good too. I think of him like Randy Moss – with an OK qb he dominated. With a 5-star qb he set records.
And don’t forget. He has scored in two Champions League Finals. What big finals has Ibra scored in? What big clutch matches did Ibra win for Inter? or Juve?

Interesting to see who the lowest percentage on that list is: the one we call Thong Boy over in Barca Town. 18 goals on 181 shots? Yikes!
shingai is right. And all strikers require service. It’s part of the deal. Anyone who dismisses his goals as coming as a mere consequence of having the great fortune to play with Messi, Henry, Iniesta and Xavi would be selling Eto’o short.
It’s a risk for us, one that Guardiola really wants to take. And I’m not betting against a man who grabbed the treble in his first season.

haha Kevin. But I will bet against him doing it again in his lifetime.

even if ibra were to stay we still needed a cassano type player. so cassano is no way a replacement for ibra.
possible replacements for ibra if eto says no:-
sergio aguero, we will be able to afford him.
lavezzi, i rate him very very highly. having problems at napoli. would just be awesome at inter guarenteed!!!!! will run circles around defenders.
torres, liverpool are having financial problems and always have a slim chance of wining anything. untd, chelsea for the league, barca and madrid for champs. if they do it’l be a surprise.
villa, very unlikely, both for financial reasons and he does not want to leave either valencia or spain.
huntelaar, a goal poacher, will move. not that great, but an option.
pato. very unlikely, but an option as we will have the csah.
luis fabiano
dezkoeither way if ibra leaves or stays a playmaker is a definite needed. :-
van der vaart
cassano
hamsik
ribery, wants to leave bayern. we can afford him.
sneijder
hatem ben arfa, i rate him highly. dictates tempo. does have issues with ego.
david silva. financial problems at valencia. really really good.
sebastian giovinco. will be my absolute dream move. even though he is a juve product, i rate him as a player very very very very highly, very highly. will definitely be italy’s next fantasia. think cassano but much younger, and without the bickering. with him inter would have giovinco, balo, santon and destro. it will be in the line of mourinho wanting a more italian squad. i dont have any hope of him coming here, but i can still dream, can’t i ?
montolivo????
arjen robben
steven jovetic. young but will surely grow into a quality player
van persie
pandev
modricPosted from

If anything, the size of this deal is a testament to how much Barca value Eto’o…giving away a guaranteed 25-30 goals a season + Hleb + another chunk of money. All because they knew Eto’o was on his way out after next year when his contract runs out and were desperate to get someone of equivalent known quality.
I wonder what his motivation will be for the upcoming season, if he in fact does make it out to Inter. I believe the quality of defending in Italy is at a low point, and the on-field product is much slower and methodical without necessarily being more tactically adept than Spain. With his strength, finishing, and work rate, he has the potential to do some serious damage. But I can also see him using Milan as a vacation spot and his performance dipping considerably.

MAD i agree with a lot of what you said and what those who agree with you have said.
The one point I would make is that part of the reason why Inter are so far ahead of the rest of Serie A atm is that many clubs and players think inter are unbeatable.
Ibrahimovic is the main reason for Inter having this psychological advantage. Many think he is the reason they win so easily each year.
If you sell Ibra it might take away that aura of invincibility and you might struggle a bit because of it.
That said, I’d sell him if youre getting Hleb and Eto’o plus cash, or a lot of cash

I have to agree with Dave, thats no way to treat a player who helped us win 3 league titles, regardless of if he is leaving. Not very classy.
