The Special One finally comes to Inter?

Jose in, Mancini out

So, it seems that it is official – sorta kinda: Mancini is out and Mourinho is in… unofficially.

Mancini and Moratti had a short meeting today, and although there was no official statement, everyone is now reporting that Mancini is out, including his agent.

As part of his settlement, Moratti would have to pay Mancini for the rest of his contact, €30 million!

In addition, the contracts for Sinisa Mihajlovic, goalkeeping coach Giulio Nuciari, and the rest of Mancini’s staff (Fausto Salsano, Dario Marcolin and Ivan Carminati), will have to be settled. This will be a enormous outlay of cash for the team. With Mourinho’s pay check €9m per year (€3m more than Mancini) – this may have huge implications in the upcoming transfer season. Of course, Moratti would like to settle with Mancini et al. for less than the full payout – but Mancini is having none of it. And although it is not official, Mourinho is in Milan, supposedly talking terms.

While this is great news to many Inter fans, I am not so happy. Mancini is not perfect but he is the winningest coach we have had in many, many years. It is true that we have not had much success in Europe, but I bet those scudetti sure look nice in our trophy cabinet. Besides, I have now gotten used to winning the league, I cant help but think a change in coaches will slow our momentum. Mancini may be a problem, but he is a problem that I know – Mourinho is scares me. I know he did some great things for Chelsea – or at least that is what I have read – but England is not Italy. Things are different there. I will miss Mancini.

I am also unsure how this change will affect the team we have and who we might (or not might not) sign. Figo has already said that with Mancini gone he would like stay, but do we really still want him? Who are we going to have to sell to pay off Mancini & Co. and Mourinho’s salary? I am trying to remain optimistic but I cant help that think next season is going to be a little bumpy.

I guess I am going to have reread Gianluca Vialli’s book (The Italian Job). As I recall, Mourinho was quoted quite extensively in it. Maybe that will help me not be so apprehensive.

Transfer Rumors

Nice Abs!Apparently Mourniho wants Quaresma, but can we afford the €40 million? I mean, without selling Ibra to Barcelona?

We are still interested in Lampard, but have cooled over Drogba. We also want a young Argentinian midfielder named Calello from Independiente. Deco may or may not be in the list. Oh, and Adriano may be loaned out to Sampdoria next season — if it worked for Cassano maybe it can work for Adriano.

Recoba is finally be on his way he is reportedly moving to Al-Gharafa in Qatar. He has 1 year left on his contract at Inter so we may get a bit of cash there. Another possible cash source is from Juve: they want Burdisso. Depending on who we get to replace him, that may not be a bad idea for us.

As for everyone else, who knows. Aquafresca wants to leave Cagliari, but not come to Inter, and I dont blame him. He needs a smaller club where he can play every game and progress as a player. Hopefully we wont have to give up partial ownership for him to move. Crespo said he wants to stay at Inter, but that was right after the Scudetto win. If someone comes along with the promise of more field time and a boatload of money, he may change his mind.

So, among all of these swirling rumors, all we can say for sure is that Inter has renewed Orlandoni’s and Samuel’s contracts; Orlandoni until next year and Samuel until 2012.

Allora, Ragazzi, Inter cambierà ma per il meglio!

I think that it speaks well for him that many of his players want to rejoin him or at least have good things to say about him.

Having said that, I think that there is going to be a “readjustment” period as some players need to be replaced to fit his scheme and some players will have to adjust to the new way of doing things. It is too much to hope that everyone will buy into the new regime quickly and with out bruised egos.

I just hope we can get to market quickly and restock our defense and midfield. I think that we need some depth and starters alike.

I was just having some fun on the Inter website and I found a head-to-head match up archive. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend it. I tried to find a team that Inter had a losing record to in LEAGUE PLAY. I tried some pretty obscure teams too. I only found one: Juventus.

Wow, Juve really kicked our ass in 1961! 9-1 with Sivori getting 6!
But then, we did get them 6-0 in 1954 so it is all relative.

Jeez MAD, this could be a real time suck!

Tell me about it. I am a stat junkie (as much as there are stats in football) as well so I think that I am in store for several late nights because I also found the player/records archive… sigh… my poor “football widow”, she was just celebrating the end of the season too…

    ARGH!
So this just in from the rumor mill (calciomercato):
“The new Inter of Mourinho is comprised of those loyal to the Portuguese coach. Crespo is to leave, doubts about the future of Materazzi, Stankovic, Burdisso, Dacourt and Adriano.

PROBABLE FORMATION (4-3-3): Julio Cesar, Maicon, Cordoba, Samuel, Chivu (Maxwell); Lampard, Cambiasso (Vieira), Deco (Zanetti), Quaresma (Figo), Drogba (Balotelli), Ibrahimovic.”

Great. He wants to axe our only Italian. Why cant we just keep him for cup games or something.
sigh. I hate the transfer season.

Johonna, keep in mind that this all speculation. I think that they are going to have to keep more players, especially the first year, than you think just so that the money works out.

Go have a laugh and read the “little Roma that could” short story that Chris wrote on the Roma blog and then revisit the financial stuff you posted yesterday and laugh again. I am still laughing and I did that this morning.

    And another thing MAD.

    Our clubs are severly different.

You call us the little train who could?

We are loved by a city, by a country, while you guys are hated by almost everyone who doesn’t live in Milan and wear black and blue.

You think your so high and mighty because your snake of an owner splashes his oil money to put together all star teams as opposed to teams with true italiani in them.

Laughable to the say the least.

Daniele, of course our clubs our different. You guys are a smaller club with a desire to be a big one ;)

What is it that you Romanisti want to have happen? The sale of your club to Soros.

Why do you want that? Because he has a bankroll and can splash cash like every other rich owner.

How are you going to act if he gets to splash his cash? I would guess you’d act like Chelsea fans who have been tricked themseleves into thinking their club has left deep footprints in the history and have always been a giant club.

You rant like Inter is the richest club in Italy. They aren’t even close, but still they are Champions. Why don’t you go bust Milanisti and Juventini balls. You know, the clubs that Roma actually out did who have more money than Inter.

And no one loves your club but you. Juventus is the most popular club on the boot (and abroad). The real supporters/ultras love their local clubs, everyone else thinks they are Juventino and with that comes a hate for Inter. You guys are a relatively small club, don’t win much and really are not cared about as much as you’d like to think (unless you are in a position to try and knock Inter of their stoop).

As for the Stranieri thing, I can only speak for myself. Sure I would love to see mroe Italians at Inter but, I have loved Inter since I was kid. I will not love Inter any less becasue of the Stranieri. I have seen many great Italiani wear wear Nerazzrruo as well as Azzurro! Inter will restock with homegrown talent. Our primavera is stocked and are champions as well. That little jab will never affect the emotion of a true Interista. You guys still can’t win, so what is your point?

You see, that is you projecting again Daniele. I dont think Inter is high and mighty. We have had a winning streak, but when I became an Inter fan, we had not won anything in like 20 years!

Through hard work and perseverance we have won 2 (or 3 depending how you look at it) Scudetti in a row. Hooray! True, we have spent some money in the last couple of years, but Milan and Juve have spent a lot more (and are poised to spend more)!

As for who Moratti signs, I have no control over that. I dont really care if people hate my team – they are MY team… Everyone else can take a flying leap. I could no more change my team affiliation than I could change my family. So, whereas I may not agree with Moratti’s hiring practices, there is nothing I can do. I would love to have more Italians on the team…. I guess I could write a letter or something.

Wow, good lord, only Alessio Secco could be negotiating for Burdisso. Did he not see how awful he was? At the San Siro he was worse than Materazzi, and given the Matrix’s form, that is saying a lot. I pray to God that it is a load of rumor bullshit because you’d have thought Boumsong was the lowest we could go. Secco continues to defy expectations.

Johonna, Paolo, good to see Juve is the only team with the advantage. That’s cause we kick ass. :) Kind of surprised Milan didn’t have a league advantage, I’m not trying to bash on Inter here but Milan does have a “better” history.

Yeah of all the teams to have a losing record to it had to be Juventus. It couldn’t be Torino or Vicenza or something! No it has to be Juventus. I’m glad we have a winning record against Milan though!

And PLEASE! TAKE NICO! He was getting beat like he stole something all year. He did have some good games but he was never consistent. He has never been the same since he he got punched by David Navarro.

I really want Inter to try and get Maggio. He already stated he would love to play for Inter!

With that Law you guys might actually win something useful next season.

    “And another thing MAD.
    Our clubs are severly different.”

I AGREE WITH THIS. Yes, I was scared as well. I though that I had become a self centered, arrogant, delusional, yuppie bullshit pusher. And then I was reminded that my life had meaning and all was well again. Thankfully the universe righted as you continue…

“You call us the little train who could?
We are loved by a city, by a country, while you guys are hated by almost everyone who doesn’t live in Milan and wear black and blue.
You think your so high and mighty because your snake of an owner splashes his oil money to put together all star teams as opposed to teams with true italiani in them.
Laughable to the say the least.”

    1. I didn’t call you the “little train that could”. It was either Chris or it was someone else from the Roma (read: CCCRRRAAAZZYY) boards who called Roma the “little team that could” or something as delusional. This is of course idiotic. Your team was formed in the Twenties by the Fascists by merging three other roman teams into one just so the city of Rome could have a winner (Lazio was the only Roman club to refuse the merger). By your team’s very act of creation it was set up to succeed over the rest of the league artificially! The fact that you guys bungled the job to the extent that the merger of the three teams AS Roma and Lazio, the team that plodded on with out the outside, articial help have ALMOST THE EXACT SAME NUMBER OF TROPHIES!

Let’s dismiss another myth right here as long as you are slinging bullshit right here. Roma is not a little club. It makes just as much money per year as Inter does. The link to prove that is provided by Johonna, INTER blog goddess: http://www.deloitte.com/dtt/article/0,1002,cid%253D190718,00.html
look it up your self. These are 2006/2007 numbers so they tell us that Roma has made as much money as Inter for at least two years (last season and this one).

Inter of course broke away from Milan almost exactly 100 years ago to bring international players and style to Italy. It’s part of our name and purpose! By anyone’s idea of a football society, we have become a European power. Unlike Roma, we have both Champions League and UEFA Cup Championships as well as almost 2 stars worth of Scudetti. And we did it on our own, without the Black Shirts to help us.

And we are hated? I think that if you were to check the polls I think that we are in the top three in popularity in Italy. By the way, Roma is not in the top three. Yo may hate us, but how arrogant do you have to be to think that Italy thinks like you?

As far as our “snake of an owner [who] splashes his oil money…” isn’t the Sensi’s money coming from a company called Italpetroli?

I must say I was rather disgusted by the “Statement” on our website dismissing Mancini. I can understand that Moratti can fire people that work for him, but for the statement to make no mention of Mancini’s success and contributions to the club…I hate to say it but that’s really classless. All the statement does is bitch about the man that was arguably our most successful manager ever. This is not the way to treat Mancini, regardless of whether or not he should have been fired.

    Grazie Mancio. Forza Inter.
