Ibra Has Three Golden Swedish Balls

By: Johonna | November 18th, 2008

Nice ballsZlatan was awarded “The Ball of Gold” as the best Swedish soccer player 2008 at the Swedish Soccer Awards in Stockholm. This is the third year he has won this title, and as Ibra said:
Third time’s a charm. Now it feels like I have been written into the history books.

The prize jury was a bit more eloquent, saying:

Zlatan is a unique representative of Swedish football at the very highest level. With technique and character he has created a space for himself both in the world elite and in Swedish football history.

There is no denying it – Swedes love Zlatan. Last time we were at the San Siro (Inter v Udinese, 1-1, thank you Crespo), we met this extended Swedish family who had come down to Milan just to see Ibra play. They just LOVE him. I admit, when he first came to Inter, I was dubious. I could not fault him for wanting to leave Juve for Inter (who wouldn’t, right?), but I guess you could say that I just wasn’t sure that his intentions were honorable. We took the relationship slowly, he and I, and now, after 2 great seasons, he has won my heart.

If you can stand it, here is about 10 minutes of Ibra being Ibra… C’mon, how can you resist?

Congratulations Ibra, and for goodness’ sake, please to something with your hair next time!

But it cant be all about Ibra – we have other players on the squad.

Hernan Crespo is back in the news.

The rumor mill has been at full grind about a possible move for him to Real Madrid. Apparently, they are desperate for a replacement for Ruud van Nistelrooy that is not cup-tied in the Champions League. Inter are happy to oblige, for 10 million Euros that is.

For his part, Crespo is “surprised” by Real’s interest and swears that he knows nothing.

Well, he may not but Agent extraordinaire Ernesto Bronzetti certainly does. He has confirmed that Real Madrid are interested:

Yes, after the accident at Van Nistelrooy, the company seeks a striker. He offered for a contract of six months with an option for the following year but the prosecutor wants a two-year contract. Currently the situation is stopped.

Wow. I kind of think that Crespo should take the deal and run. Who else is going to pay him the kind of salary that Inter does? Where else is he going to get Champions League play? Crespo, I love you, really I do, but take the offer. Besides, then he could play under old Golden Bench Roberto Mancini again. Or at least that is the rumor.

Yikes

I hope neither Marco or Nico start. Here is one of 2 line ups I would prefer.

    Julio Cesar
    Macion – Cambiasso – Samuel – Maxwell
    Quaresma – Muntari – Viera – Zanetti
    Cruz – Ibra

    or

    Julio Cesar
    Macion – Cambiasso – Samuel – Zanetti
    Quaresma – Muntari – Viera – Balotelli
    Cruz – Ibra

I am also hoping for a good match but 3 points for Inter is what I am dreaming of from this. I would be happy sit through a sleeper if it means we win! I am expecting the scrappy, messy match.

Juventus’ defense will only be as good as they are sharp. As I stated before I think they will play high rely heavily on the offside trap since they seem to think Inter’s attack is too one dimensional. We have pace and can burn them if they do. If they play deep and resort to defending we will be able to create chances. We will need to finish them. The midfield is key in this match. They are many battles to be won and lost and some good match-ups. There are some good ball winners who can distribute. Should be a war. As for our defense, I think they are quick enough and intelligent enough to deal well with Juve’s attack. I really think starting Nico or Marco is not good although if one starts it will/should be Materazzi.

The crowd is going to be big and loud. Should make for an amazing atmosophere. How I wish I could be there!! Ursus, will you be going?

On a somewhat related matter, I saw someone wearing an Inter jacket today so I was trying to talk to him about the derby. He didn’t know it was this weekend! I figured he was wearing it explicitly for the same reason I’m wearing my #11 Gold Pavel Nedved jersey. (over underarmor, it’s actually getting cold in Nola) Just last weekend, at a bar I met a girl wearing a Roma sweatshirt, figured it was because Lazio-Roma was the next day. She didn’t even know who Totti was!!

I think there needs to be a rule only wear club clothing if you follow it constantly, otherwise you’re pointlessly getting my hopes up!

alessio you still sound like Juve supporters from 1994.

Happy to win at all costs. Happy to put fingers in your ears and shout at the top of your voice.

I wonder if the current credit crunch will hamper how many games Juve can buy this season. Will they only be purchasing the ones they think will be tight, or will they go for bulk?

Hard to decide when there are so many sales this time of year.

As for Inter, I think that the 4-4-2 model is likely at least at the beginning of the game. I think that Mo wants to secure a draw before taking too many chances extending the field.

I won’t be surprised to see Cambiasso in the backline making:

    Cesar

    Maxwell, Samuel, Cambiasso, Maicon

    Muntari, Stankovic, Viera, Zanetti

    Cruz, Ibra

Mancini, Quaresma, Balotelli or Mancini, Burdisso, Balotelli depending on the situation.

So I guess we’ve been cheating since 1994 now…why didn’t the FIGC revoke more scudetti then? God knows they didn’t bother putting together a proper trial, they could have pushed it through.

I believe Inter had ONE player in the WC final…Juventus had 5 in the winning team and 3 on the other. Your team sucks, get over it. May 5th 2002 wasn’t Juve’s fault, it’s time Interistas grow a pair and fix their problems. I guess successive round-of-16 exits from the Champion’s League is all Juve’s fault, right? After all, Platini is a former Juventino he must have fixed those matches. In fact, I think Inter’s lack of CL wins since the 60s must be match-fixing too. Juventus has some good men in Uefa, I guess.

I am still not sure about Cruz as a starter. He just looked slow and out-of-sync in the Palermo game.

    What about Adriano?

“So I guess we’ve been cheating since 1994 now”

Now? I have been consistent and saying that all of Juve’s seasons since Moggi came on are suspect. It’s naive to say that Juve was only MATCH FIXING during the 2005-2006 seasons. The FIGC, indeed all of Serie A, had a huge image problem since the Juventus MATCH FIXING scandal… which I think is indicative of Juventus’ and others win at all costs and fuck how bad it makes the entire country look.

The FIGC wouldn’t look at any other Scudetti Juventus has won because then they would have had to admit that they were tacitly allowing Juventus to cheat by turning a blind eye. Which would ruin the prestige of Serie A further. So congrats on that. I am sure you are very proud.

“Your team sucks, get over it”

Well, I don’t think my team sucks… so I really have nothing to get over. And thanks for coming here everyday this week to let us know how much you don’t like us. I think that was just sooo nice…

“I believe Inter had ONE player in the WC final”

Was Vieira playing? Anyway I really couldn’t care less. I am happy that you are very proud of having so many players on the national team. I think Materazzi acquitted himself pretty well.

“it’s time Interistas grow a pair”

You are so concerned over our testicles… by the way… 2002– Calciopoli– it isn’t paranoia if someone is actually coming after you…

“I guess successive round-of-16 exits from the Champion’s League is all Juve’s fault, right?”

No one here has mentioned Champions League but you. So nice of you to change the argument. It’s always a good indicator of what you think of your previous stance… obviously not very much.

“In fact, I think Inter’s lack of CL wins since the 60s must be match-fixing too.”

That’s the spirit! Embrace that feeling… that Juventus are scum!

Adriano coming in would be a nice surprise and a tactic right up Mourinho’s alley. I wouldn’t put it past him.

Does anyone think that Mo will use the 4-3-3? I think that Mo will play it close to the vest until the second half and then maybe open it up.

I think Quaresma should play. Juve is weak at LB and this would be a perfect confidence boost if he were to put in a good performance.

Mourinho may play the defensive diamond and catch them on the break, and if that doesn’t work then throw on the wingers.

As a Juventino I’d much prefer a 4-3-3, but I think Mourinho is going to spring for a 4-4-2. I think he realizes Mancini+Quaresma aren’t playing well and this game is not exactly the time for them to work on adaptation. Cruz-Ibra is a much scarier frontline to me than Quaresma-Ibra-Mancini, or even if you throw Adriano in the mix.

I wouldn’t be sorry to see Quaresma play, but I think Mancini has a better chance to play this game.

On second thought I wouldn’t rule out the 4-3-3, not because I think it makes a huge difference, but just because Jose will try to send a message that he came to attack, something that Ranieri has been historically reluctant to do in tight games.

Just for the record, and just ’cause I was curious, this is alessio’s first post after the “offside goal” game at Meazza last season. You can tell how deeply interested he was in playing a game without “referee incident”:

“TAKE THAT UNBEATEN HOME RECORD AND SHOVE IT UP YOUR ASS!
FORZA JUVE. UNBEATEN BY INTER IN SERIE A……………hahahahaha”

This is a man whose brow is heavy with the concerns of justice and fair play…

Credit Juve’s exits to Capello. But we have been to 6 finals in the last 40 years……Inter has been to 1. You’d think with two years of no competition in Serie A Inter could have dedicated a bit more importance to the CL?

Alessio first of all the serie A is always competitive( well maybe not the year your cheatin ass team were relegated ) second inter did take the CL seriously but you need a lot of luck in that competition because you and I both know that we definitly aren’t lacking the talent to win it if porto could win it we damn sure could too also I got news for you JUVE DO NOT HAVE MORE CL Trophies than WE DO so df are you going with this ?

I’d really like a good explanation. Not even the Juventus penalties, I’m not concerned. We can put our 30th star on later this year. But maybe someone should explain to the Roma tifosi why they don’t have another title.
